What a disappointment. From the start things didn't bode…read morewell, met by an individual with the charm and charisma of a used heroin needle we felt as though we'd walked into his home and expected to be fed. Led to a table, which promptly had it's wine glasses removed by the cheerless waiter, request for a drinks menu was met with a reply of "what do you want", well I want an idea of what you serve and have on offer. But no, we're left to order a very safe drinks order instead. 10 minutes later the drinks arrive, along with the menu's and.... A wine menu, so you did have one you just withheld it! A simple question about the menu by our 18yr old fell upon him as if Oliver had asked for more, is it really too much to respond pleasantly to a polite request about the soup of the day? Let's not get started on the ordering where again our teen was made to feel as if they'd proposed invading Poland and gassing all the plumbers. The menu was exciting yet the food didn't live up to expectations, it was exceptionally bland with two tough ducks and a steak, not a comedy drag act but a piece of beef that though tender had no flavour, sous vide vs a grill, no salt crust, no Maillard reaction = bland. Dessert almost, almost recovered but when asking for a full dessert menu we got a menu for the entrees instead, we'd had more than enough of those thanks. Eventually we got the right one but by now the damage was done. To my taste buds, and my sense of occasion. This is the first time I've ever left a restaurant without leaving a tip. A disappointment of comedic proportions.

I'll write a proper review then, shall I?!…read more The Moorhen is a large country pub tucked out of the way just off of the A414 as you approach Harlow. It is signposted, but only just, so unless you know it is there it's easy to miss. In light of that, the fact that this place is always pretty busy (especially on Sundays) is perplexing. It's in the mold of a chain pub, although I don't think it is. The only saving grace is how child-friendly it is. Downstairs they have a large 'play-barn' type area, with padded climbers and ball pits etc., along with some arcade machines for the older kids and a few TVs for the adults. There is also a small bar down there but only serving soft drinks, beer is upstairs (from memory). Upstairs there is a main bar, and then a very large restaurant, split over two levels. It's a nice enough environment - a bit on the grubby side in places but on the whole it's OK. The food though, leaves a LOT to be desired. It is frequently cold or luke-warm, and is patently reheated. Potatoes are hard, veg isn't cooked properly, and it all seems a bit low-quality. On the three separate occasions we have been (not our choice!) the food has been pretty diabolical. Drinks-wise, there are the normal range of beers and soft drinks, nothing unusual there. On nice days you can also go outside where there is a lot of seating and outdoor climbing frames for the kids. The view is quiet nice, situated right on top of the River Stort, but it hardly serves to save this pub from mediocre-ville.

My family and I went for a birthday meal and only one of us ended up eating. The rest of the food was over half an hour behind and they didn't even apologise! I asked for the manager who eventually sauntered over and claimed half an hour wait was reasonable given how busy they were! When originally asking for the manager I was told the staff didn't know where she was! Never again, rude staff who do not care about their customers and equally as poor food that is not worth the money!

They always deliver on-time and quickly, and I've never had a reason to complain since discovering them. I always make sure to leave notes regarding my allergies on the Just-Eat ordering page, and unlike other establishments, Old Cathay always read it and change things accordingly, which shows a dedication to their service I wish all restaurants had. I always greatly enjoy their pork fried rice and chicken skewers most of all, though their noodle dishes are too oily / soaked and often you can be confused by the menu, which doesn't give you a very clear idea of what you're getting if you've never had that particular item before. But despite that criticism, this is a fine establishment with excellent service & food, and as a regular customer, I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a quick and great Chinese.

It was eventually delivered at 9:15 without so much as an apology from the delivery driver! The food was luke warm and soggy, deep fried chilli beef was soggy and had no taste and the crispy spicey chicken was the same. Very rude on the phone and even had the phone put down on me when i asked where our order was!
