Oh, and of course... the food! Though Living Zen Organics has disbanded since the pandemic, Myungju is beginning to start doing temple brunches again. The first was today and it warmed my heart to see 40 folks digging into mermaid stew, kale salad, butternut squash soup, roasted root veggies, tea, etc like the good old days. The best way to stay updated on when this place is open and what one can attend is through the website. They have a newsletter you can sign up for as well.

Both table and traditional floor seating available. CASH ONLY. No tax, tipping jar optional at the door. Three course meal is set and 12 dollars each. We had kale salad, spinach soup and "pasta" made from zucchini. None of us had ever had raw veggie meal before and we ate everything! (including two 10 year old girls!). The monk serving us was very kind/patient and explained each course, as well as paying special attention that the children learned a bit about the preparation methods. There is also a wall of their own foods for sale and we left with tasty kale chips, flax crackers and raw cashew butter! Yum! Their foods are also sold at various health food stores throughout Oakland county.

The room itself (a bedroom and a living room space) was super cutely decorated and the perfect amount of room for the two of us doing an overnight stay. The overall Convent space is pretty interesting and unlike anywhere I've ever stayed before. The downstairs space is a very large rooms/event spaces that are all decorated with bits of art from local artists that you can purchase and is independently run from the AirBNB. There was an event they were setting up for in the downstairs space for later that evening when we showed up and I believe the event happened and was taken down in the span of time it took for us to go out to dinner and come back, so that was interesting lol! The upstairs space is a long hallway with various different businesses in rooms on either side of the hall, with the high majority of these businesses focused on holistic healing and arts. My friend and I took advantage of our close proximity to these businesses and booked individual sessions with an energy healer that did energy readings of us, which was very enlightening for the both of us! The bathroom for the AirBNB is communal and located at the end of the hallway on this second floor closest to the AirBNB, but I assume that everyone in the building can access it as it has two stalls, two sinks, and a shower if you're so inclined as well. All in all, it was a good experience and I'm glad to have done it, but I don't know that I would personally do it again. I felt a steady level of anxiousness the entire time I was here, which I'm not entirely sure where that came from, but I think I could just chalk it up to me being in a space where I didn't feel completely safe even though there wasn't anything specific that made me feel unsafe here by any means. I just felt a tiny bit on edge the entire time I was here.

This space has been renovated from a former convent for nuns. The owners of the Schvitz, have done it again, repurposing old places into something unique. I recently attended a yoga and sound meditation event. The Convent hosts a variety of events throughout the month. I suggest following them on social media to find out all about the wellness events coming up.
