So many times we planned on eating at their restaurant, and so many times those plans fell through.
And then one day, nothing came in the way!
But we didn't think ahead to make reservations for our party of 12. Luckily, it wasn't busy, probably because it was a random midweek lunch, so we were seated and given menus immediately.
I got the chance to take in the modern decor of the restaurant. High ceilings, a nice view of the pool, seating was roomy, tables are spaced out nicely. Impressive.
TUSOK TUSOK PLATTER: Because who doesn't like Pinoy street food, right? Presentation was impressive. But it's nothing exotic. The plate consisted of fishball, hotdogs and crab balls (I think that's what it was.) Came with three different type of sauces: sweet and sour, vinegar with onions, and the more famous gravy. They were all delicious. It was a nice starter.
DIMSUM PLATTER: This was recommended by someone in our party. Five different kinds of steamed goodness: two types of siomai, potsticker, hargow, and steamed shrimp and imitation crab. There's a reason why they placed the shrimp and crab combo at the center of the plate because out of all 5, this one was the one that stood out. Don't get me wrong: they were all good, but if I had to pick a favorite, the shrimp/crab combo would be it.
HOT AND SOUR SOUP: Served hot, it took a minute before we took a sip. Flavor was on point. Good balance of salt and sour. The serving was pretty big as well - one order was enough for all of us. This, too, was delish.
BAGOONG RICE: I've had my share of this and by far, this is the one that set the bar for all of them. This was AMAZING! Topped with fresh mango and onions, scrambled eggs and lechon kawali. Staff told us the trick is to mix it all together before having any bite. And they were right: everything came together so nicely, like my taste buds threw a party in my mouth. The egg and rice helped balance the strong flavor of the onions, the sour of the mango and the saltiness of the lechon. The whole combination created a unique flavor from simple ingredients. Whoever came up with this is a genius. A definite must-have!
LECHON KAWALI RICE TOPPING: Had I known the bagoong rice was topped with lechon kawali, I would have skipped this altogether. But I got to share it
i also got a ginger lemonade to wash it all down. I liked it. There was a good balance of the ginger flavor and the tang of the lemonade. There was a nice sweetness to it as well. Refreshing.
FOOD: 5. Before I liked everything I had!
SERVICE: 4. We had at least three servers for our table, but they seemed off sync a few times. They forgot a couple of drink orders, they doubled up on one (which is fine, someone ended up wanting it anyway) and a dish was missing - but they rectified that immediately. The size and chaos of our party probably didn't help... but still. They did well above average.
VALUE: 4. Pretty fair for the venue.
PARKING: Private lot given it's located in a hotel.
OVERALL: 4.25.
There were other items in the menu I didn't include here since I didn't get to try them, but whoever did seemed happy with them. Just know we all left with happy tummies!
Excellent first run! I see future visits, if only for the bagoong rice and the dimsum platter. I'm never letting anything get in the way should the opportunity come up again! read more
