Holy mackerel. So this is where most of the world's remaining Victorian and early 20th century garb ended up.

The space isn't huge- but the options are almost endless and exciting here. If you're the type who loves vintage at thrift prices, you'll bring those vintage finds back to life. I recently found two white quartz(?) bookends at $6ea that may seem small- but they're heavy AF. Prior to that, I've found small catch-all trays or other items. The staff is always friendly and willing to answer any of your questions about anything. So whether you want a nostalgic vintage cardigan, a vase, tea set, this or maybe that, Castaways is one of the best thrift+ vintage shops in Woodstock that won't disappoint you.

Normally I would give the store five stars. However, my most recent experience shopping there was less than pleasant. In fact, it was notably strange. Upon entering the store my friends and I were greeted by an employee that I had never seen before. She gave us a rundown of the store while we were looking around and I politely told her that we had been there before and didn't need to be told where and what things were. That was excusable. However, the experience got stranger. I was looking through a box and found a loose pair of pantyhose that I was thinking about purchasing. The employee entered the other room where my friends and I were Coincidentally, I picked up my bag and the pantyhose and went over to another section at the same time she was entering. In doing that I think I may have set off a shoplifting alarm in her head. Without asking, she picked up the pantyhose next to my bag and told us that she was going to put them up front. I protested because I wasn't sure if I wanted her to do that. She proceeded to tell me in somewhat of a scolding tone that she was going to bring them up front (regardless of my protests) and that they should have been left in their packaging (there was no packaging). After this encounter, she kept her eye on us consistently. I tried on two dresses and she interrupted my conversation to ask me a question about the dress I had on. She also asked loudly if anyone was in the dressing room as I was clearly changing in there. I found this whole experience strange and frankly invasive. I also felt singled out because of some unfounded (and obvious) suspicion. I do enjoy Castaways and I have been a long-time patron. However, I am reluctant to go in the store again because I would not like to have another encounter like the one I had today.

That being said, I didn't score anything. Located in Central Ave on the north-bound lane- Nana's is small and has an impressive collection of Antiques. Quick and pleasant chat with the owner(?) who mentioned a couple of sales and their upcoming 40th anniversary on the block. If you're looking for champagne flutes on a beer glass budget- this isn't for the trifter in mind. But do spend a little time though- going through piles of costume jewelry, small metal furniture plus other uncommon finds.

A shiny aqua Vespa sat in the sunny parking lot. Once inside, it's floor to ceiling and every nook of space inside countless curios of treasure. Tiny apothecary bottles with 19th century medicinal "cure" labels; taxidermy specimens of all sizes; antique plates; shaving brushes; modern swords, shuriken, even a batarang; glassware smoking paraphranelia; and a delightful selection of canes. The second room contains a wondrous wooden dry bar with red velvet and iron barstools where the owners sometimes sit with friends. Swords and animal heads are mounted on the walls. If you are looking for a moose head to complete your Murder By Death homage haunted house, you can get one here.

I'm so used to Silks and Treasures long list of items and brands they don't consign as they only have so much room because everyone consigns there that they want only things that can bring a larger sale which makes sense but so many gently used or barely worn items I couldn't bring went to Cornucopia and always sells. I've gained some nice returns at Silks but more than trippled that at Cornucopia in half the time. My consignment experience with Shakedown Street was awful. I never saw even one item I consigned on the floor and things like brand new bags and shoes which would have sold in a couple days, a week at most at Silks and Treasures were never bought at Shakedown. I consigned hundreds of dollars worth of clothing, bags and shoes and got one payout for 12 bucks and another for 22 bucks. That's it. Pretty sure they made a killing selling my stuff online, at least that's what I heard. Cornucopia actually let's you have your items back too if they don't sell which is the major draw for consigning there. And the store looks nice for the most part. My only complaint is the new clothes they have are too expensive so naturally people buy the used stuff. I've bought many nice dresses and jeans there this past year and they don't take out anything so I find myself looking for tank tops by pushing past the turtleneck sweaters but it's worth it. No fuss no worries no list to remember and I either pick up my cash or pick up my stuff if it ends up not selling so I never loose or feel cheated.

I will not go back, it is pretty gross.
