There are some restaurant which go beyond a yummy and tasty experience. They transport you in a dream where all your senses will be pleased.
In Zaranda, everything begins at the gate. Lost in the middle of a narrow road in Majorca's island countryside, you will leave the road behind you and will have to drive through this alley bordered by huge palm trees.
Parking your car you'll have to leave the noise of your engine and the silence of your passenger compartment to walk through a green garden with water planes and flourishing flowers and bushes. Cicadas will probably be more noisy than your engine...
After passing the hotel lobby checkpoint you'll be lead to your table by one of the black clothes dressed waiter.
Tables are enough spaced to preserve the iniquity of this moment.
But before sitting, you may ask for a quick in the garden. Enjoy the view on the pool. Enjoy the olive trees. And enjoy the imposing stones made building.
Once you took this time, just have a sit. Just order a drink and it will come with fresh bread and aioli. Maybe try a cava, the white spanish sparkling wine.
Have a look at the card. As in high end restaurant you won't find tons of dishes, but you can be sure each of them will be a real culinary experience.
All of them have been imagined by the multi awarded chef, Fernando P Arenallo, who cooked in the most famous restaurant such as Patrick Guilbaud, Gavroche, Can Fabes, before launching his own restaurant in Madrid, Zaranda.where he was granted by a first star after only one year. Moving in Majorca in 2010, Zaranda was granted with a second Michelin's star in 2016.
Let's talk about the food now.
The evening I came to this place we only had "A la carte" dishes, and starter and two dishes of the day. But menus should be available on some days.
If you ask for advise on the one you'll probably be suggested a spanish or majorquin wine. When visiting Majorca and discovering his top places, you should stick to the local food and wine and you'll probably have really tasty surprises when tasting it.
My choice was finally shrimps and mango bricks with soja, and a slow cooked and smoked piece of beef (24 h at 70 degrees).
Dishes were just like the place and the service, perfect and enjoyable.
Special mention with the beef.... I think I never had a so tender, sweet and tasty piece of beef.
No dessert, but I had selected plate of cheese. All cheese were spanish ones. OK... That's the only mistake in my choice... Choosing spanish cheeses for an ending when you are french may not be the best option.
They sure were good but I was missing creamy and smelly french. But the red wine chose for the diner were matching perfectly the cheese.
Paying the bill is not the sweetest moment of the dinner, well, excepted when you are invited, but the price is in the range of two stars restaurant and the place, the diner and the service... this whole amazing experience.... explains the price.
Leaving the place, you will probably feel a bit disappointed to go into your car, but doing this you will take the same alley and will discover the lights in the darks, the palm trees drawn in the shadows.
