For 25-years, the first thing we do when we visit a new city is take the hop-hop bus to get our bearings. Milan is no exception. We purchased two adult 48-hour tickets for €25 each. We traveled all three routes (Red, Blue and Green) in one day. The busses were as advertised, clean, all the audio equipment worked, and with one ten-minute exception, were on time. The Red Route was best, the Blue Route a close second, and the Green Route a fail. There just wasn't enough to justify a third route. We spent the time listening to opera ... Over and over again. When we did get audio guidance, it was out of sync with the tour, so we had difficulty figuring out where we were and what we were seeing. Unfortunately, there was no person handling the tour who could explain what we were seeing as we approached, and answer questions. As I expressed to my partner, I'd have gotten more joy had I simply lit a 50 euro note on fire and watched it burn.

Bus left Milan at 7:20am, WiFi in the bus not reliable. The drive is 2.5 hours from Milan to St Moritz (bring passport). We were given 2.5 hours to walk around and take pictures of the frozen lake and watch the cross-country skiers. After a quick grocery store lunch, we boarded the red Bernina train for the most gorgeous train ride to Tirano. We felt like Anna and Elsa in winter wonderland. Every turn of the train provided gorgeous postcard-like scenery. Both bus and train rides were comfortable, there were multiple bathroom breaks and a ton of great memories. So glad we did this organized tour. Arrived back in Milan at 8pm.

My agent suggested this accommodation to due their free airport shuttle service. I do not believe many hotels nearby offer this prized feature and it is highly needed. I didn't want to get a rental car since I knew I'd be preoccupied at my private villa accommodations in the pre Alps of Lombardia on the following day. The round trip shuttle pick up and return (offered from 5am - 12am midnight) per visit, was a game changer. Truthfully, this is a distinctive perk, esp if you don't speak Italiano. This prized feature adds much VALUE, safety, & convenience to the hotel stay & experience. They use WhatsApp to handle your shuttling requests. I like that someone speaks English in their WhatsApp for your inquiries. For additional shuttle needs, they charge 15 Euro per ride. Free WiFi access in your room & throughout property grounds. Def get your cell phone data plan set up before arriving in Europe. Trust me, you will NEED data on your mobile, esp when traveling! I met the manager, Michaela, and thanked her for their accommodating services & requests. Alexia & Greta were also very helpful. They are detailed in pre confirmation of your stay, preparing for your check in times, registration, and coordinating room arrival times. Very specific & personal, unlike any other hotel accommodations I have experienced. The hotel entrance is discreetly secluded, awkwardly nestled behind a tour bus storage lot. Never seen that before, but we are on the outskirts of Italy. The landscaped grounds were surprisingly large and spread out. The hotel rooms are sparse, typical for Europe, very basic, no frills inside.. Mini refrigerator, TV, and AC (cool air needed from summer heat wave), white linens with stiff mattress (good for your back). Perfect for an overnight rest & stay before heading out for the next morning. I did like the individual exterior patio deck with pool views. It was quiet and peaceful in the early morning. It was nice to have hotel shuttle driver available upon landing, esp at inaccessible later evening hours. Bc I didn't arrive to the hotel property until past midnight from my Malpensa International flight, my shuttle driver handed over my room key in a labeled envelope when he dropped me to room front door, as part of their 24hr check in service. He was nice, yet only speaking Italiano tho.. The hotel is bustling with full occupancy, high turnover of transitory travelers in between destinations. Lobby is log cabin rustic, traditional, with a dated European ambience, and plenty of extended lounge seating to relax. I noticed they had security cameras placed throughout grounds at the reception desk. Lots of restaurant dining area options, as they rotate the breakfast buffet venue. They extend dinner reservations with wine selection on property for added convenience.. They offer a breakfast buffet package with warm fresh made croissants. Some are filled with apricot preserves (not sugary sweet either), very delicious, I ate 3 of them since I'm on VACATION, LOL!!! The Italian speaking server will happily make your cappuccino, espresso, or latte.. There was a selection of whole fruit, fresh cut fruit, toast with heating ovens nearby, self serve juices & milk, deli meats, cheese, hard boiled eggs, cereal, packaged honey & jams. I also prebooked hotel for my last stay before leaving Italy, since I knew their included shuttle transport would be accommodating for my long flight home, Of course, my shuttle driver was already waiting outside my hotel door at 6:30am for my 7am shuttle service back to Terminal 1, Malpensa.. I was hoping for an upgrade due to my Hilton Diamond status but we were assigned a regular room and that's okay. We actually got a single king bed as opposed to the double beds that I requested in the reservation. Thankfully, they were able to get housekeeping to prepare the proper room immediately and also provided a coupon for two free drinks while we waited. The prosecco went down quite nicely, thank you. Finally, a fully-enclosed shower. After hotels in Verona, Florence and Turin that all had the weird European half-enclosed shower, this was an unexpected plus. And despite the hotel being quite busy with a football/soccer team and at least two flight crews, the room was quiet and we got a good night's sleep. Dinner in the evening in the hotel bar was good. My traveling buddy had a cheeseburger that he enjoyed and I was too tired for all of that and just had a bowl of fries with mayo. Very European. In the morning, a full breakfast buffet with American, English and European style offerings. All well prepared and the staff were constantly clearing tables and resetting. I arrived hangry after a 4 hour drive from South Tyrol. I arrived into to parking structure that was very small and only one available space. Try parking a SUV with the standard European narrow parking spaces with beams to hold up the ceiling with no adequate space to move in any direction. After checking in, I arrived to my smallish room. I checked out my map and no places to eat in close proximity or shopping for that matter. There was no way in hell I was going to get the car out of the parking garage again until I left for good. We ended up eating lunch at the hotel and was quite excited when I saw a burger on the menu. I wasn't excited anymore after eating that burger. It was terrible. On a positive note, I was given a discount on the meal for being a Hilton Honors members with status. We ended eating dinner at the hotel as well and the dinner was no good. Both the food and the service were bad. Again, we were given a discount for being Hilton Honors members with status. The hotel filled the need for a bed, a shower and WiFi. There was visible mold growing in the shower tiles. Check out was easy and fortunately I was able to get the car out of the parking garage without issue. Two stars.
