Just be prepared in that your eyes are going to be bigger than your stomach. When you get your ice cream, get the waffle cone. Delish! It's ALL good here, and they sell more than just ice cream. This is a must-go-to place if you're headed to the Soo! We drive 2 hours just for this. Our whole family has to be gluten free, and their waffle cones are completely out of this world. You can't even tell they're gluten free, and even our non-celiac friends have said that they taste better than a normal waffle cone. Every year we come to the UP, and the first place we hit upon entering the Soo, is Zak's for ice cream and fudge. Both of which are fantastic. Nothing beats getting an ice cream in a handmade-on-the-spot waffle cone (ALWAYS get a double), then walking across the street to watch a ship go through the locks. My current favorite is Tiramisu and Michigan Pothole, together. Simply grand! Their fudge is top notch, and we always take enough home (variety of choices!) for ourselves and family. I would like to start it off by saying the ice cream was pretty amazing. The reason why I am giving it two stars is because my mother had not made her mind up on what flavor she wanted. The young " women " behind the counter proceeded to roll her eyes. It was just me and my family were just in there so that means it was only four of us. The girl after helping us then went into her phone for around 3 minutes. So, the 17-19 year old girl rolled her eyes at my mother and rushed us just to be on her phone. Classic teenager. This is the perfect place to get ice cream. The atmosphere is that of an old-fashioned soda shop. They have a wonderful variety of ice cream flavors and their homemade waffle cones are divine. If you are a fudge connoisseur, there appeared to be plenty of options available. read more

I've tried many ice cream shops here in Michigan and pride trying local ice cream companies. As an avid ice cream fan I've tried basically every ice cream shop I could find, and this is by far the best. Tonight I tried the blueberry and the amaretto cherry in a chocolate dipped waffle cone. I was pleasantly surprised to find chocolate in the bottom as well. I'll definitely be back tomorrow to try a couple other flavors as well. I also recommend their fudge too.
