Suffering greatly I phoned and was pleasantly surprised to be given an appointment for the next day. That began my journey with Kim Connelly. Kim did a thorough assessment and convinced me that she would do everything to bring me back as close to normal as possible. After six weeks the surgeon and I decided to schedule surgery on my rotator cuff and torn bicep. Kim Connelly prepared me in advance by strengthening the surrounding muscles. She said it would help teduce post-,op recovery. For six weeks after surgery I was in a sling on my dominant side. I was afraid that PT might hurt too much, but slowly and gently Kim and her team of Carol, Chris and Terese kept my shoulder from freezing up. The first week was painful of course but all of my rides were warmly welcomed into the facility which helped distract me. Nearly ten weeks after surgery I have a terrific range of motion despite the pain. Often I have to stop because it is a slow process. I will be excited when I can reach behind my back again. HOWEVER: I was with my elderly parent who had a cast removed by Dr. Atkenson. The blade did not automatically stop and despite my parent's screaming for him to stop, he continued. End result: 27 cuts that broke the skin, some of which got infected. (Luckily, no MRSA.) We complained and he said "I did the best I could!" The nurse said, "Oh, this happens all the time, it's why we do this at the office and not the hospital, because of the screaming!" This was unlike any cast removal I have ever witnessed or heard about. If you fracture something, you can do no better than to choose Atkenson as your surgeon. But DO NOT allow him to remove your cast...ask for a qualified tech or nurse who knows how to handle equipment. Before the above incident, I have recommended this man to my friends. Now, I tell them about the cast removal. If you don't know how to handle a sharp instrument, DON'T !!!

I desperately needed a hip replacement. I was walking in pain and continuing to work, which…read moreinvolved a lot of walking. Not wanting to be a wimp, I ignored the pain in the hip and just kept going. I had a pretty bad limp and started using a cane. I came to my senses and finally retired and saw Dr B at the Oak Lawn office. He reviewed my xray with me and I could see how badly messed up the hip had become. He scheduled me for surgery in early October, 2021. Preop, in the surgery holding area, he explained everything again and allowed me to ask questions. I went into the OR are LaGrange Hospital at about 9:00 am and was home by 5:30 pm. I felt a little sore, but it wasn't bad at all. I had been given pain meds and they worked wonderfully. By mid-November 2021, I was back to my old self. I had to be very careful not to dislocate the hip by moving/sleeping the wrong way, but I felt wonderful. It is now January, 2022, and I am back at 100%. Dr Branovacki does wonderful work and is also a very nice guy. So glad I went to him.

Dr. Richard Lim is one of the finest Orthopedic Spine Surgeons in the Country, many surgeons did…read morenot want to operate on me because of the complicated nature of my case. I had a giant herniated disk with severe central canal stenosis along with complete effacement of the Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) around the nerve roots. Redundant nerve roots (RNRs) and the beginnings of Cauda Equina Syndrome and Arachnoiditis. I had terrifying pain in the hip, buttocks, groin and leg. Sound Complicated? That is because it was and the risk of surgery was high. Dr. Lim took on my case and performed an extremely successful Posterior Spinal Fusion with Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) using a Titanium artificial disk also known as a Intervertebral Cage and a facetectomy on L2/L3 with a very Complex Decompression of Cauda Equina and Bilateral L1/L2 nerve roots and Hip Bone Marrow Aspiration with an Allograft Bone Graft plus 2 Bilateral foraminotomies along with an annulotomy. This was all done using a 3D computer-assisted stereotactic navigation system. I mention all this to demonstrate why even world-renowned Neuro Surgeons declined to take my case. Right after surgery 100 percent of my pre-surgical pain in the hip, buttocks, groin and leg was gone. At 3 months out I was walking 3 miles and at 4 months I was hiking in the forest on hilly and challenging terrain and had a zero-pain score. Also, his P.A.
