Definitely one of the best schools in the state. If I absolutely had to rank them all on the merit…read moreof their academics alone, I'd say #1 tied between Georgia Tech and Emory, #2 UGA, and #3 Georgia Southern.... followed by everywhere else. My sister attended both UGA and GSU though, and told me there was no difference in the quality of the education between them. The school is very progressive-thinking, and the professors tell it like it is, backed by solid science just like any top-notch university. What is different is the culture of these schools. First off, I am from Statesboro, and initially loathed the idea of going to school in my hometown. I thought that it would be a repeat of high school in south georgia... basically just camo everywhere and a low quality education, and that would be it. I was completely wrong! Sure, there's still a tiny bit of camo (like 4% of students) and some good ol' boys and girls that are really closed-minded, racist, or bland (maybe 15%), but everyone else that goes here is basically the most awesome person that you will ever meet. Those are pretty good statistics, in my opinion. The people here will surprise you. If you never really found your niche anywhere else, my suggestion would be to come to Georgia Southern. The students here are really like family. The campus is also absolutely stunning. 90% of the buildings are new construction and totally amazing. The technology here is top notch, in every field. The RAC is amazing, with tons of workout equipment, and gear that you can even rent and take with you! Eagle entertainment offers tons and tons of activities for the students, including de-stressers during exam time (ever wanted to pie someone in the face or smash up an old car?), concerts, food activities, and so much more. GSU is also located in a quiet town that has a surprising amount of fun things to do and lots of jobs for students. The life in statesboro just can't be beat. The attitude is very much "work hard - play hard." GSU has a notorious party culture, sure, but what can we say? We're high achievers too. I had well above an A average when I graduated, and not for any lack of fun. That's because Georgia Southern is a school of balance. GSU students like to study their behinds off at Henderson library as much as they like relaxing by a pool with a drink in their hands, soaking up the sweet southern sun. And parents rejoice! The laws will be changing in July of this year, prohibiting all persons under the age of 21 from entering any of the bars, and making it much more difficult for students to drink underage. GSU is also located in a dry county, meaning no liquor is available to be purchased in any store here... and the nearest place to get liquor? Well, it's nearly 45 minutes away - more than far enough to deter most students from going to get it. As an alumni, I feel really confident saying that Georgia Southern is a special place in this world. It is a lot of fun compared to other colleges, which is something that you should want for yourself if you're considering going here, and for your child if you're a parent. The experiences I had here were once in a lifetime, and I would not trade them for going to any other school. There is also something about Georgia Southern that brings students together in a way that I have never seen again anywhere else. Maybe it's because all of the freshmen are required to stay in the dorms together, maybe it's the traditions like FYE, first night out, the lantern walk, etc... we all know each other. We all have been through the same experiences. Eagles love each other, look for each other, and stand by each other when they see another eagle in need. It was a great source of pride for me to have found friends that would stand by my side through anything at this school, and those friendships have remained intact despite the fact that we graduated several years ago. All-in-all, Georgia Southern is a wonderful school and I'm very proud that I went here for my undergraduate degree. Once an eagle, always an eagle!

Checked out GSU for the game with LSU and Flaujae, the school did a great job with the…read moreaccommodations. There was tons of on and off campus parking. The arena and bathrooms were kept really clean. I do think there could have been more concession options, but I understand for a smaller school they made do. Overall, it was a good experience and I felt safe with the large crowd they had.

The one in my hometown (High Point, North Carolina) closed a long time ago. I remember enjoying my visits there as a kid. This Books-A-Million in Statesboro appears to be alive and well, for the most part. When Three Tree Coffee Roasters closed early, we headed here. There's a cafe inside called Joe Muggs (the Books-A-Million cafe chain). Joe Muggs has indoor and outdoor covered seating and the bookstore has free Wi-Fi. In order to connect to Books-A-Million's Wi-Fi network, you have to log in using a social media account. I logged in using my Twitter account. This is the first public network I've connected to that required a social media account for connection purposes. They must want my data. The Wi-Fi signal at the cafe was good and the speed was sufficient for general web browsing and music streaming. I didn't try to stream any videos, but I did upload some photos and those took a lot longer over Books-A-Million's Wi-Fi than my considerably faster home internet connection. We stayed at the cafe for a few hours in the afternoon. The store saw a steady, but slow, stream of business. A lot of the employees just hung out behind the registers due to a lack of customers. There were a couple books we were interested in getting for my nieces, but sadly, Amazon had them at lower prices with free (Prime) shipping. It's this very reason why I wonder how brick and mortar bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million have survived for as long as they have. Then again, they seemed to thrive in the 90s with business models that allowed customers to spend hours inside their stores reading books and magazines and not having to pay a dime. Wanting to give Books-A-Million our business, we asked the staff if they would price match Amazon. They said they couldn't price match in-store, but we could price match with Books-A-Million online. Why would we spend our time doing that (setting up a Books-A-Million account online and going through the price matching process) when we already had Prime accounts set up through Amazon? With just a few taps on the Amazon app, we'd have the books sitting on our doorstep in a couple days. The store itself was nice. It was well maintained and organized and had an up-to-date and well-stocked inventory of books, toys, games, and gifts. The men's restroom was clean. The staff was polite. While it has some things working against it, overall, I think this Books-A-Million is a fine place to come to to browse, shop, meet, hang out, and/or get some work done. Both the bookstore and cafe have a quiet, relaxed, and comfortable atmosphere. This Books-A-Million is located in the Statesboro Crossing shopping center with other national retail and restaurant chains like Hobby Lobby, Olive Garden, Petco, TJ Maxx, and Ulta Beauty. It's not far from Statesboro Mall and the Walmart Supercenter.

i cant wait to go back !!! But its a book store Common its nice and there are so many books to choose from. This store dosent really have flaws

I come back the next day and its a go . not having the time to go see my advisor and have en time to see if it's my fit . then when I do see her i decide to change my major, and now what it says i only have 3 days, it's now day two I was there the 1st day and it was just impossible to make that change in the admissions desk. Now stressed out and yet again discouraged and annoyed I wonder if I'll get productive help if I wasted more time and gas . Nasty energy from the comfortable people in the back . they take the joy and hope you have and crush it . because hey if I can't even enroll without feeling stupid, how am I supposed to to feel confident in the classroom . they do a freaking number on you for sure. but don't give up . hopefully once we get pass the the belittlement and get into the class hopfully it's all up from there. but them nice people in the book store are amazing if you need a pick me up, after financial aid and admission dims your dreams .
