Za has got to be one of Winnipeg's hidden treasures. It's arguably one of the best DIY-style pizza in the city, all for under $12 including tax. This Za branch in St. Vital has its own pizza special exclusive to this location: The St. Vital Cheeseburger Pizza. It's exactly what it sounds like: The elements of cheeseburger ingredients in a full thin crust pizza. Needless to say, I have absolutely no complaints about the pizza. Delicious in every way, even if I'm not a huge fan of thin crust pizza. The ingredients are fresh and seen in front of you, and the pizza oven consistently cooks the pizza perfectly. While we have many of these pizza places in Toronto, I wasn't expecting anything similar in Winnipeg and if there was, I expected it to be all meat with non-vegan options. To my surprise, they had vegan cheese and you could select their original, whole wheat or gluten-free dough. I got the whole wheat crust with vegan cheese and chose lots of veggies (I don't remember what it was, but they all looked good) along with some roasted garlic with their classic tomato sauce. Oh, and it was thin crust too! I love thin crust. Best thing ever. Oh and despite my massive amount of toppings, it didn't fall apart. The pizza took about 10 minutes in total. Very efficient staff. Best part? It was only $9.95 before tax. This was delicious and you can get there through the Skywalk from the Delta hotel/Convention centre. Next time I'm in Winnipeg for work, this is my go to lunch place. read more

What a fantastic idea! It's the Subway of pizza! I like the idea of everyone choosing the way they want their individual pizza. There is no compromising or worrying you have to buy more pizzas because people can't agree on toppings. I will say the pizza is not small. It is a good size pizza for one person. And the fact that you can add whatever toppings and how much is awesome. The price still comes out the same. Extra extra pineapple?...no problem! The only reason I can't give this franchise and place 5 stars is how long you have to wait for your order. In all fairness, they build your pizza right in front of you so that means you have to wait for it to bake. And since it's an assembly line, you're waiting for everyone else before you to get theirs. This can be a long time if you're hangry. Also this location is quite small in terms of seating. Most people do take their pizzas to go but there are only about 8 tables so this place fills up quick! This place can also feel cramped because people are standing waiting for their pizzas to bake or wait for people to leave. Even though there are some cons like the small location and waiting for your pizza, the fact that it's fresh and made right before your eyes is unbeatable. read more

I visited Za Pizza Bistro about a week ago. I discovered the place on Instagram, and I'm glad that I did. Za offers fast artisan pizza at only $9.95 with unlimited toppings. Picture it like Subway, but instead of subs, you've got pizza, which is in my mind way better! The pizza is thin crust for fast cooking, and comes in regular, whole wheat, or for $2, you can get it gluten free. They also offer dessert pizzas as well, which I have yet to try. The interior is gorgeous, but seating is limited. From what I remember, there's only four or five tables, plus bar seats along the window at the front. I love the fact that for $9.95, I can get all the toppings I want, and it tastes great! I definitely recommend trying the place out, as you won't be disappointed. Really disappointed in my most recent visit; staff dropped a stack of over a dozen pizza boxes on the floor and then put them onto the cutting board where pizzas are prepared. She then put them onto the shelf for use. I find it disgusting that pizzas were then prepared on a surface where something from the dirty floor was placed. Emailed management over a week ago and no response. I guess they don't care about food handling and safety :( read more

I honestly couldn't believe that this place was serving made to order unlimited topping 11" pizzas for $9.95! I have to admit it was a bit stressful to figure out what I wanted on my pizza as I was standing in line. Lol. There's traditional crust, while wheat or gluten free for $2 add on. Then there's 6 sauces, 7 types of cheeses, 8 types of meats and a lot of veggies. I was a bit surprised at how generous they were with some peoples orders especially those who ordered a ton of toppings. I limited mine to traditional crust, classic tomato sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, grilled chicken, bacon, red onions, roasted garlic and spinach. My pizza was ready in about 4 mins in the oven. You create your pizza in a Subway style manner. You pay and get a number for your order as your pizza cooks. Pizza is pretty good and very filling - I only ate half. Very thin crust - can't say the sauce or crust was memorable but I really enjoyed the toppings. You really can't beat the quality at this price. They have a cool coke machine that seems to have a zillion flavours of carbonated drinks (every flavour of coke zero like lime, vanilla etc), fruit drinks and water too. There's also lots of creamy sauces like spicy ranch along with lots of hot sauces to put on your pizza as well. The decor is very nice inside - gives a restaurant feel even though it's a fast food eatery. There's about 5 or 6 tables so not a ton of seating. Service was nice and efficient. This place is located in the newer strip mall across from St Vital mall just south of bishop grandin and on the west side St Mary's Road. read more

So when I criticize a good restaurant I like to use the sandwich technique (fitting I know). 1. The pizza is DELICIOUS 2. Waiting 45 minutes for pizza is a little excessive and I definitely won't be waiting on the sidewalk during a Winnipeg winter. It may be worth the wait but I haven't decided yet! 3. The price can't be beat! $10 for as many quality toppings as you can fit on the handmade dough. The restaurant is small but both kawaiicrepe and Palatal next door are under the same ownership and they apparently let you eat in at the other locations of the primary locations are full. Staff could be a bit more efficient and chat less and things may move a little quicker. Overall I would return but not on a Friday at dinner time :) read more

Made to order pizza for $10. Unlimited toppings and a variety of sauces, cheeses and toppings to choose from. Best of all gluten-free dough for those who are gluten intolerant. The choices are somewhat overwhelming as there is such a huge selection, and pre-designed options would probably be helpful, but overall I had the person helping me help design my pizza. It's good, my only complaint is that the goat cheese somehow makes it's way on my pizza every time. I think it's the placement of it behind the mozzarella, so some of it drops into the mozzarella. I hate goat cheese! read more

My significant other and I love going to Za Pizza! If you have never been, the best way to describe is that it's like going to Subway but you're going there for Pizza instead. You go down the line and ask for your choice of toppings to be put on your pizza and they cook everything in front of you. You can get yourself an unlimited topping 11" pizza for only $9.95. You can customize the pizza the way you like it, ie. you can have a half and half of different toppings on each side and you're not charged extra. It's a great deal! The down side to Za Pizza is that there's only limited seatings at the restaurant and the place is always at capacity so depending on the time of day you go, there could easily be a long lineup. However, this still doesn't stop us from going because of how fun the concept is!! read more

I love the place, we go there all the time but the St Mary's location is inconsistent with their service. The way the pizza is made depends on who is serving us. Felt a bit discriminated against when I noticed that a larger amount toppings were being given to the people ahead of and behind me. Our family is constantly coming to this restaurant as we really enjoy it. The food is tasty, service is pretty quick and the price is great. Be careful of the line ups = sometimes it is crazy. It can also get pretty crowded in Za Pizza and it's awkward waiting for your pizza with all those people hanging around. Overall great little place we'll be back soon! read more

For some reason the staff don't want to put cheese on top of the pizza. I was told by one employee that they do have unlimited toppings but have recently implemented a portion control policy so I couldn't get cheese on my pizza. I was refused cheese, a pizza without cheese, gross. I contacted the head office and they didn't know what she was talking about. My last visit i was told cheese on top makes the toppings slide off in the oven. For some reason the staff have a real problem with putting cheese on top and aren't above lying to refuse you.
