Brought in a 1976 outboard Motor to get a new recoil put in it and a new impeller 400 dollars later recoil still doesn't work motor runs like crap for about 5 minutes then won't run anymore when I called in I was told by receptionist that the motor was too old and they couldn't do much for it that would have been nice to know before I paid 400 and still have a motor that doesn't work read more

I brought my 8HP Johnson into them because it was lacking power. They went through the carb and charged me almost $300. They told me it tested good and runs great. The first time I took the motor out it idled great, it was still lacking power. I took it back and this time they told me it was because the bearing in the lower unit was the cause. They want another $200+. I could see charging me for parts but I think they would fix it without charging me labor because they didn't fix the problem in the first place. I had a cable break on my new mans Lift. I called Z Marine and talked to steve the owner he asked me the model number on the lift and of course I had no idea. He then asked what the dimensions of the lift were so I measured and emailed him pictures and he knew immediately the parts neccessary to fix it. Steve said he would order the cable And set up a time to put it in and I agreed. After the phone call I looked at the other cables and noticed they were all rusty in certain spots so I called him back and asked him to order new cables all the way around Steve called me back and quoted me a price on all the cables and I agreed. Steve called me yesterday to let me know the cables had arrived and would like to come out and put them in. Steve showed up within a half hour with his assistant Eugene they looked at the lift sitting in the water And Steve jumped into the water up to his waist in his work uniform and boots no waders. Steve looking out for his employee asked him to go put on his waders from the truck and they proceeded to move the lift into shallow water to work on it while in the lake. After moving it Steve noticed a wheel was missing as the pin holding it in had fallen out and the wheel must have floated away. And told me he had one at his store and would grab it later. Steve and Eugene spent seven hours replacing these cables and the job was time consuming as the discount place I purchased the lift from 4 years earlier had smashed the pulleys in way too tight and because of this the lift never worked properly But Steve carefully took the entire lift apart and put it back together carefully making certain the pulleys were exactly right. At one point during this repair Steve pointed out that a little washer was missing from one of the pulleys and he wanted that little washer to make it perfect. I offered to drive back to his store to pick it up and after some resistance he agreed to let me run this errand while he continued working on the other end. I got to the Store and Steves daughter was cheerfully waiting at the door with the parts I needed And said hey Dad said to grab this wheel too. She couldn't have been more friendly. On the way back I couldn't stop thinking how amazing this customer service was across the board So I stopped and grabbed some burgers for Steve and Eugene I invited them to sit on the deck and eat lunch and they thanked me quite a few times. Steve finished the repair and we rolled it back to its spot taking extra time to make certain it was level and he waded in waste high water insisting on helping me put the pontoon on the lift and after raising and lowering a few times he was finally satisfied the repair was complete. I offered him a towel for the ride home and he reluctantly agreed. Today I stopped in to pay my bill and his daughter handed me back my towel clean and folded The owner of Z marine stood in the lake fully clothed cheerfully working on my boat lift for 7 hours even after finding this to be a much bigger job than expected making sure his employee had waders on Steve takes pride in his work and it shows.This level of customer service is extremely rare and Awesome! I found this marine not to be the best of quality service as the rebuilt job done on my lower unit didn't even last 90 operating hours and broke in the middle of the water, I paid good money $5000 and got a poor workmanship job, the seal leaked and the gears on the lower shafts installed were damaged yet they were installed. I was rescued by Sams Marine and Performance trout of Stillwater, MN. I probably should inform the BBB of this too as it should be noted. Poor workmanship! read more
