My seven-year-old service dog, Madonna, has immaculate teeth. I've brushed them every single night…read moresince she was ten weeks old. Even so, the best-laid plans can't prepare you for emergencies. Last year, we were rear-ended on the I-5 at Via de la Valle in Del Mar by an unlicensed driver in stop-and-go traffic. I fractured two of my own teeth from the collision. My Italian Greyhound was secured in her car carrier, and I assumed she'd been spared. Months later, during a routine exam at our primary care veterinarian (The Drake Center in Encinitas), our vet discovered a fracture in Madonna's molar that would require a root canal. I was shocked becauseI brush her teeth nightly, but that's not something most dog parents are actively looking for. Our vet emphasized that the only reason Madonna avoided infection for so long was because her mouth was so impeccably clean and was the result of years of daily brushing, enzymatic toothpaste, and small-breed dental tools. She referred us to Pacific Coast Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery, and this is where our real blessing began. I consulted with Dr. Kevin Li. He is phenomenal, articulate, precise, no-nonsense, and deeply empathetic. Most importantly, Madonna absolutely loved him, and she loved every member of the staff. The entire team is caring, gentle, and genuinely attuned to the anxiety any devoted dog parent feels when their fur child needs surgery. On surgery day, I checked her in and went home to wait, terrified. But Dr. Li called exactly when he said he would. And he began the call by complimenting me...saying Madonna has the cleanest teeth of any seven-year-old dog he has ever seen in his practice. That meant the world to me. The root canal went perfectly. Madonna recovered beautifully, and I now examine her teeth every night when I brush them and everything remains flawless! I cannot say enough about this facility. They made my dog's life healthier and happier, and they treated us with exceptional kindness from beginning to end. I've already recommended a close friend who has four dogs and she now brings all of them here for their dental care and procedures. She was just as impressed. Pacific Coast Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery and Dr. Kevin Li are the absolute gold standard. If your dog needs dental care, this is the place you can trust with your whole heart!

By far, the best place to take your dog for urgent care or oncology needs (if you see Dr. Proulx)…read more I've been taking my dog here for just over a year for quarterly consultations with Dr. Proulx. My 11 year old dog has a history of very aggressive MCTs, and Dr. Proulx has helped us put him on a fantastic regimen that has prevented any new tumors from appearing for 15 months, while minimizing dosages for steroids. Dr. Proulx is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind. He answers all of my questions thoughtfully, even when I call from home because I'm a nervous dog mom. We just took my dog to the urgent care this weekend, and it was a great experience. I called in advance to say I was coming up, and they were able to see him right away. They had great bedside manner, thoroughly explained our options for next steps, proactively provided cost transparency, and offered follow up appointments. They also helped me prioritize what was needed so I could decide what to schedule with my pcp to save some money - it's clear they aren't trying to take advantage of you! We saw Dr. Vezeleva, and I can't recommend her enough. When we were done speaking with the care staff, I asked the front desk if I could take my dog to the car to wait while they filled a prescription for me - they immediately brought him out so he could wait comfortably, and they even met me at my car to get me when everything was ready so that the end process as seamless as possible.

We had a horrible experience at VCA California Veterinary Specialists in Carlsbad with Dr. Brian…read moreHranek, and I would strongly caution other pet owners about bringing a neurologic case here. We brought our cat in around 9 PM on a Sunday because she had sudden weakness, was falling over, and was clearly having trouble using her front leg and part of her body. We repeatedly told them something was seriously wrong. Instead of treating that like the emergency it obviously was, they became fixated on claiming her carrier smelled like marijuana and suggesting possible THC ingestion. That theory made no sense to us, and worse, it distracted from the actual symptoms we were there for. Their own written notes said our cat had "no apparent lameness," normal pupils, and no neurologic abnormalities. That did not reflect what we were seeing at all, and later vet visits found far more serious neurologic issues. We were also told, "yeah don't worry, there is nothing absolutely critical right now." That was completely wrong. We were sent home with reassurance that this would likely self-resolve. Because of that, there was delay before we got her properly evaluated elsewhere. We later found out she had a very serious condition affecting her brain, and vets are now telling us it may be lymphoma or a viral infection. Either way, this was never some minor "maybe she ate something weird" situation. What makes this so disturbing is not just that they were wrong. It is that they were dismissive while being wrong. They minimized obvious red flags, focused on an unlikely explanation, documented the visit in a way that downplayed what was happening, and sent us home with false reassurance when our cat needed real urgency. If your pet is falling over, weak, unable to use a leg properly, or showing neurologic symptoms, do not trust this place to take it seriously. We regret going here, and we regret trusting what we were told.

I am now at a different vet who we LOVE, but our experience here at Bressi was never personable, and I always felt like I had to fish information out of the vet and the techs. Huge lack of follow up and communication as well. When I asked a question I was often met with, "oh it should be fine" "I'm not sure, let me go check." With my dog getting older, I did not trust her in their hands any longer based on my experience. Dr. Lax misdiagnosed my Australian shepherds back pain. I was told she may need to see a neurologist because of a spinal issue and that she should no longer jump up and down. When going to our new vet, he reviewed the x ray they took and said because of them not sedating her, the reason they gave that diagnosis is because she probably moved during the x ray. New vet did a thorough exam and she has been fine, no issues. I also recently found out that when they extracted some of her teeth 2 years ago, they left some roots in there which the new vet is now removing so they do not become infected or abscess. I would have understood if there was some reason why they left them in there...but the lack of transparency and lack of communication is what I don't appreciate. Huge opportunity here at this vet!

We live a good 1 Hour Dr. from the area, but our normal vets wouldn't see us without either a very steep surcharge to get him in same week or told us to wait a week for an appointment. So I was thankful to have a new recommendation. My Frenchie had done something to his eye, and it was rather urgent that we be seen. I loved the ease of being able to hop online and see what their availability is whether it be that day or further out, as well as being able to filter out that availability by your chosen doctor. When we arrived, the staff was super welcoming and kind. We had a room right away. The doctor was so sweet with my dog. Not only did she do a thorough exam, she was great about explaining each step, and each medication. I definitely felt like she was invested in the health of my dog and not pushing anything that I didn't need. She seemed very honest and forthcoming. She explained the healing process and what we would need to do as far as next steps. I would definitely recommend if you live in the area or even if you have to drive a bit to get there to take your animal to see Dr. Goode! My dog went from being nervous that we were at a veterinarians office to being happy as a little clam due to the care and, of course, the love and extra snacks he was given!

Dr. George was very thorough in trying to figure out what was going on with her. Unfortunately, it was our sweet cat's time to go to heaven. Christina, the Director of Mohnacky was so kind and compassionate. If it weren't for her, we probably wouldn't have brought our cat back in, and she would have suffered. They sedated him bcuz he was stressed and then handed me a dog with little to no instructions except "if his tongue turns blue get him to an emergency vet". He's a French bulldog and if anyone knows this breed, they have a really hard time coming out of sedation. Theo was OUT! He wasn't eating or drinking so I kept calling to ask questions since I was never given any after care instructions (minus the "if his tongue turns blue takes him to an emergency vet"). Monday it started, by THURSDAY when I was the only one calling them...I had enough. No one EVER called to schedule his surgeries, I called Monday evening, Tuesday, Wednesday and THURSDAY. Every time to be told by (even the doctor) they'd call me back, no one ever called. The excuses were endless. While they didn't charge me for anything except the exam, I would not recommend taking your pet here. Thursday AFTERNOON I was told they wanted to switch doctors bcuz Dr Southern (I think that's her name) was "more hands on" but I had already told the front desk around 8a-9a that's day I'd never let them touch my dog again. Clearly the communication is lacking there. Denise* also had an attitude because I asked what my bill was and in which she replied "I'm not getting into it with you." So when it comes to your pet or the bill, Denise has no time or patience for customers. Frustration doesn't even begin to cover what I felt. I found another vet to to do his surgeries...$3000 LESS than Mohnacky and they specialize in the French Bulldog breed. I won't even get into the what Mohnacky was going to charge me...I had a few vets look the estimate I was given by Mohnacky and they were all in disbelief. My quote from Mohnacky was $5575 without his teeth cleaning (another $487 on top of $5575). I paid $3025 for neuter, removal of bladder stones, teeth cleaning and teeth extractions and labs at a vet in San Diego. The new vet also didn't charge me for X-rays since Mohnacky wasn't sharing my dogs medical record with them and they said it was not mine or my dogs fault. I had to call Mohnacky to finally ask for his records, I was put on hold and then hung up on. When I called again I told them I couldn't hold and the girl knew exactly who I was without me even saying a word, with a sigh she said "this is for Theo?" I got the email; they did not email the new vet as they said they would. Mohnacky also changes vets so much, my dog has seen Dr. Saaco, Dr. Yaeger, Dr Bulliard, another at vista I don't remember his name and then Dr. George in a span of 2yrs. I asked the front desk if they rotated doctors through their facilities, she said no. Dr Saaco has been the only one I've liked but she is no longer there and has her own practice in San Marcos. A LOT of red flags! I personally will ever take another pet here or any other Mohnacky in North County. I wouldn't allow them to change my goldfish's water honestly.
