A tiny little place next to Naschmarkt, focusing on north-western Chinese cuisine. Lots of cumin, barbeeued meat, delicious hand-made noodles. It's very popular with the young local Chinese crowd and there are only 6 tables (seating 4 each), so make sure to call ahead and make a reservation. I've been turned away every time I've tried to show up without one.
The food is fantastic. I'll go out on a limb and say it's the best Chinese food of any variety you can find in Vienna. My girlfriend, who's from Taiwan, agrees.
We've been there yesterday with two friends and overloaded our table with all sorts of delicious stuff. Hand-drawn noodles with lamb and vegetables, spicy barbecued lamb and flat bread, stir fried squid and young garlic, sour mu err mushrooms with beef, "innards and vegetables", and tonds of lamb, tofu and squid skewers. Everything was fantastic but the standout dishes for me were the tofu skewers, that I didn't have any expectations for, and the innards with veggies.
The first were crispy outside and puffy and light inside and came slathered in a tangy tomato-based (I think) sauce that I'm gonna have dreams about and do my best to re-create. The second was the most understated thing on the menu, where it was just described as "innards and veggies". I kinda knew what to expect when I ordered it since it's one of my favorite Sichuan dishes - tripe, kidneys, heart, blood curd and stuff, stewed together with some mushrooms and pak choy, and maybe some other veggies in an incredibly spicy broth - but what came to the table just blew me away. A huge bot of the most delicious and hellishly spicy broth (it's definitely the most spicy item on the menu, so beware) with innards and vegetables inside, alright. But also large prawns, squid, tofu, glass noodles and everything else you can imagine. It was absolutely wonderful. It's like a treasure trove of delicious stuff and whenever I thought I had exhausted it I found some more.
There are now quite a lot of authentic Chinese restaurants in Vienna, it's not something unusual anymore to find really well prepared "real" Chinese food, but this place, in my opinion, is the clear winner so far. Service is also really friendly and prices are decent. Highly recommended! read more
