When it gets to the point of the Europe trip that you need to have some Asian food...but it ends up being one of the top meals you've had in France! Yulan offers a French twist to classic Chinese dishes, with fantastic presentation and flavors.
We had a reservation for 7pm on a Friday - the restaurant was quite empty at the time but was mostly filled up by 7:45-8pm. A good chunk of the servers speak Chinese, and they also have an English menu they can show you. The interior is modern and new.
They offer a set menu with your choice of starter, main, dessert. We got 3 set menus, each with different items.
- Starters: (1) pan-fried dumplings, (2) chicken breast, (3) cshrimp balls
- Mains: (1) duck leg, (2) squid flowers, (3) fresh fish of the day
- Desserts: (1) tang yuan, (2) coconut pearl, (3) molten chocolate cake
First with the starters - the dumplings had a perfect crisp and great filling to skin ratio. The chicken breast was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the sweet and sour sauce is reminiscent of orange chicken (but much better). The shrimp balls were crispy, and they were paired with a pesto sauce that was a surprisingly great combination. They also serve mantou bun with the starter and main, so recommend dipping that in the sauces of the dishes.
Next with the mains - the duck leg was tender, and it was infused with pear to provide sweet undertones. The squid flowers were probably the softest I've ever had, yet chewy, and was umami. The fish of the day was tender and fresh, and the crispy side vegetables were a great touch.
Lastly for desserts - the tang yuan and coconut pearl were chewy and soft, a very satisfying mochi-like texture, and paired great with the mango. The molten chocolate cake was gooey and rich.
Asian dad approved, would definitely recommend checking Yulan out! read more
