YOU MUST BE MOBILE TO VISIT THE SITE!! You can jump off into the water or climb down the stairs to enter the water. The water starts off cold, but then feels refreshing. There's a waterfall, but I'd course depends on the day on how much water is actually falling. There is a photographer to take your photos and you can view and purchase them on your way out. You are welcome to bring your phone with you to take your own photos. I suggest buying a case to do this. The sinkhole is 150 feet deep so do this with caution. It is good for kids as well.

Short version: these tours are very much worth joining, with superior guides Jose and Gilberto, and fascinating destinations, and I recommend them enthusiastically. Both tours were easy to arrange, and Javier at MexiGo communicated with us regularly to let us know what to bring and when we would be dropped off and picked up. All of that went smoothly. A huge relief for me, travelling in Mexico for the first time! Our first tour, Go Flamingos, was an adventure, a photo-safari-like experience spotting birds, crocodiles and other wildlife at the coastal nature reserve of Los Lagartos, followed by a tour of the archeological site of Ek Balam. Both experiences were fascinating, and the unspoiled site of Ek Balam, right in the jungle, felt like being in an Indiana Jones movie. Jose, our guide, was so friendly, with an impressive command of languages that made all of us on the tour feel like a team! His understanding and appreciation for nature enhanced our experience at Los Lagartos, and at Ek Balam, his knowledge of and passion for Mayan culture and tradition really shone! Our second tour was the Go Wonders tour, which featured the monumental and breathtakingly restored site of ChichenItza. It's impressive restoration and popularity was a contrast to the unspoiled beauty of Ek Balam. There is even a Starbucks at ChichenItza! It's grandeur is absolutely breathtaking, particularly the large pyramid/temple, and our guide Gilberto's knowledge of the features of the temple provided valuable archeological information and interpretation. His passion for sports really shone in his discussion of the historical, athletic practices on the well-restored and stadium-like ball court. Afterward, we went for a swim in the Yolkdzonot Cenote, which also felt like an adventure, amid stalactites, vines and fish. Finally, at the Yellow Town of Izamael (yes, it really is very yellow!), Gilberto took our group to a local ice cream shop for a very welcomed, cool refreshing treat! Then we climbed an unrestored pyramid/temple! Both tours were terrific, MexiGo was easy to deal with and communicated with us very well, and Jose and Gilberto are the best guides ever! These experiences really brought Mayan history to life for us, as well as an appreciation of the natural environment and architectural beauty of Yucatan.

Our guide Jose explained the Mayan culture in depth as we walked around the various monuments. He took care to make sure my travel companion and I, both older women, were comfortable and keeping up. There were only four in our group, so we heard everything. There was time after the official tour to wander about and visit the hundreds of vendors who'd entered the site. Then it was off to the cenote and lunch, a relaxed time for both swimmers and non. Lunch was delicious! Our final stop was in Izamal, the yellow city. Most climbed a crumbling monument for a view. A walk took us to an ice cream vendor where we tasted corn ice cream and were given scoops of whatever flavors we wanted. A short visit to an air conditioned museum/workshop and a "nunnery" capped off the tour. we were back in Valladolid in time for dinner!

Many tour buses are parked here. In 15 minutes we didn't get much time but the park is good. There are many benches to sit. The two-person seats are very interesting - very much photo-worthy. We got some locally made chips from a vendor which was good - quality and quantity - for 15 pesos. The shops around are good to purchase gifts and souvenirs. I suppose they'd bargain too if you can. Other than that, there are many restaurants, eateries, and hotels around to roam. The park is heavily patrolled for some reason as we saw heavy police deployment with automatic weapons even on a seemingly regular day. Overall, very much recommended.

This is the main public square of the city of Valladolid. All tour buses that go to Chichen Itza…read morewill drop you off here to have a look around. The square itself is just a park with some benches and water fountains and statues. There are also some street performers and women selling souvenirs spread throughout the square. This is overall a good location to have a quick glimpse of the city with the famous San Servacio church located adjacent to the square. There are lots of restaurants and stores that line all sides of the square as well.

Last time we stayed in Valladolid, I saw that there was a beekeeping park in town. Xkopek does not…read morehave a website, but they do have a Facebook page and WhatsApp so you can look up tour info and prices. There were several tour times available throughout the day. Getting to the park was very easy, and we drove there in our rental using Google Maps to get to the park. I would say it was about a 5 minute drive from the center of town. There is also a large sign for the park, so you can't miss it when you are driving there. When we arrived, there was ample parking. We paid at the main building for our tickets, and there is also a museum and gift shop. They have lots of nice souvenirs here, like honey and soaps. The grounds around the park are very lovely, with murals, gardens, and more. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the local area, nature, and so on, and spoke very good English. The tour is not a long walk, and there were different parts to the tour that made it all interesting. The bees in this area are not known for stinging people, but if you have kids who are scared of bees, be aware that bees are flying around here. Younger kids may not be as interested in things like history and biology as well, so just keep this in mind if you take younger children. We started off at a cenote, and walked through the jungle observing different natural elements of the area. There are beehives to check out, which is neat considering that the bees here do not make a honeycomb like bees in the US do. At the end of the tour, we did a honey tasting at tables outside. It was neat to taste and compare different types of honey, and the bees in this area produce a very unique tasting honey. We even got a little bag of treats after the sampling, which was a nice surprise. Overall, we had a nice time at the tour. I thought the price was reasonable, the length of the tour was good, and the taste testing was a nice interactive feature. I also enjoyed the surroundings, such as the local flora and fauna.

When wrapping up a Mayan Bees Tour at Xkopek late one afternoon, we chanced upon the brochure for…read morethe Free Walking Tour of Valladolid with Estacion Mexico. So we rushed back to the city and luckily reached the starting point at dot 5 PM. There we were met by Jocelyn who was kind enough to accept our last minute entry (literally!) despite us not having signed up for the walking tour. Since no one else turned up, the next 2 hours felt like a personal tour of a part of the beautiful city. We started at Plaza Casa De La Cultura Valladolid where Jocelyn walked us through the history of the city by referring to 4 beautiful murals and the Coat of Arms. The walking tour spanned Yalat Arte Mexicano gallery (lots of cool stuff in the backyard including the Offrenda for the local Alux), Iglesia de San Servacio church, the colorful street Calzada de los Frailes, before concluding at Parroquia de San Bernardino de Siena church as the day ended with a beautiful sunset. Not only is Jocelyn very knowledgeable, but she is also very passionate about her country and the city of Valladolid. Her love for this city is infectious and it translates into this amazing tour that makes even outsiders like us feel right at home in this new city. Definitely recommend this walking tour as one of the top things to do when in Valladolid!
