Worse than not good. Unethical, bait & switch disaster! My wife needed an extensive amount of work including an extraction. Dr Yu created a treatment plan and agreed to do an extraction. She also told my wife she could save a tooth with filling. At the scheduled appointment after taking 2 Valium prescribed by Dr Yu prior to the appointment ....while in the chair Dr Yu told her she may not be able to remove the tooth creating a need to refer her to a specialist ( at huge expense ) additionally she informed her that the filling may turn into a root canal and a crown ( more huge expense ). Surprisingly my wife had the wherewithal to get up from the chair and leave before this unethical treatment bait and switch obligated her to THOUSANDS of dollars. The staff was great everyone was so helpful in assisting me with my needs. It was my first time utilizing both of my insurances together and the reception staff was able to square me away quickly! Disappointed that I could not use the advertised coupon. Feel like it was false advertisement. They said its only for new customers. Had a lot of problems with the tools they use for xray. It was extremely painful and they kept retaking pictures. I shared that I didn't want extra pictures taken because I have a growth in my brain. Dr was very sweet and I really love her. Easy to talk to and relatable. Customer service was pretty good other than issues mentioned. They also forgot to give me the standard bag of goodies (toothbrush, paste and floss) at my first visit. read more

I work next door to Yu Smile Dental at the Looking Glass Salon. I've been looking for a dentist to take my 4 year old daughter to. When my daughter recently came to me about a pain in her mouth, I had to take action. I called a pediatric dentist close to my home, and couldn't get through, so I walked next door to Yu Smile Dental, explained about my daughters pain and that she needs to be seen, and they immediately scheduled an appointment for us. The day of our appointment, we were greeted with the same happy energy. The woman working the front desk, explained everything in detail about what was going to happen. She even remembered that I told her my daughter would be nervous about her first appointment, so she talked to my daughter, asked her questions and reassured her about what was going to happen and not to be scared. When we were seated, my daughter got emotional and started crying when getting ready for her X-rays. But as soon as the technician came in, she was calm and sweet and helped my daughter. She never got frustrated when the X-rays didn't come out right. When the Doctor came in to help, she was just as amazing! I had a root canal and a crown done on the same tooth here and I need to get that same tooth extracted now because of negligence. I went back to her after my tooth turned blue after a few months and she told me that it's because the tooth is dead. Not true. New dentist told me that was a sign of fracture and possible infection. That infection occurred a year later and now I'm losing my tooth at under 30 because she did not give me good care advice. Now im paying out of pocket to get this done. I do not recommend seeing her for in-depth procedures like what I had done. read more

dr yu is very sweet. but mind your wallet!!! i had a brain injury and had one of those care cards. i went in because i had a broken tooth and a split tooth. i had mentioned thinking about having all my teeth pulled and getting the one day upper and lower inmplants. she advised me against it. well to make a long story short...she started pulling all my back teeth one by one. she never took care of the teeth i went in there for. i just let her talk me into pulling my teeth because she said they needed to be pulled. this was just before thanksgiving. i had an appointment to get another tooth pulled but had and abcess on the one pulled the week before. they called to confirm my appointmenttment for the following day and i told them i wouldnt be getting a tooth pulled and that the last one they had done was abcessed and painful. they cancelled my apt. and would not make one for me to come see her for the abcess. i eventuall ended up going to ER to get anibiotics. yeah she was a sweetheart until she couldnt get anymore money out of me. she didnt need me to sit in a chair to write me a prescription. she also talked me into other procedures (cosmetics) to make sure she had every dime she could get from me. i only gave her 3 stars because she seemed so sweet and caring. but i realize i was taken advantage of. she knew about my recent brain injury, and found me very malliable. read more

Dr Yu is great! I struggle with anxiety when it comes to dental work and she is very good at putting you at ease. At first I was apprehensive about a dental office next to a Taco Bell (very superficial, I know), but the office is very new and clean and everyone who works there are very professional. My previous experience with dentists were always with older, male dentists (no offense to any) and the last one I went to were motivated by the ¨perfect smile¨, so they say things like ¨you needs all this work, plus, braces and whitening and maybe a few veneers and maybe we'll reshape these two, etc.¨ at your first visit, whereas with Dr Yu I was given a list of what needs to be done, by priority, what needs doing now, and what can wait. This list did not include any cosmetic work. She has mentioned whitening and braces, but only in context with current treatments, like when I had a root canal and needed to have a crown placed we discussed what color she should make it, in case I want to whiten my teeth in the future. Or because my bite is open and I grind my teeth pretty badly, I should consider braces and then a night guard. I haven't felt pressured to do things I didn't want done, I want to concentrate on fixing and preventing cavities and bone loss and gum disease, aesthetics are costly and secondary procedures to me. I appreciate a dentist who understands that. So far Dr. Yu has done all the procedures herself, including the initial consultation and cleanings, and I will say that I like that so much better than when you see a dentist's assistant at appointments and the dentist ¨sees¨ you for the last 5 minutes after the assistant briefs him and he reiterate what she said. I will keep going to Dr Yu, I actually enjoy going in now and I'm never worried about appointments anymore. read more

They have false advertising both on their web-site and mailers. It says $79/$99 New Patient Cleaning Exam, X-Rays and Teeth Whitening on both the web-site and mailer I got to my house just last week. When I called they said it was only for patients without insurance and it was a mistake. Nothing on the web-site or mailer says without insurance! So I have to pay more because I have insurance??? Misleading and a scam.... read more

I went here today for my initial exam and cleaning. I was very impressed by how nice and clean the office is, the staff was enlightened to the concept of customer care, and Dr. Yu spent a good amount of time on me. This is really what I expect of such a personal experience like dentistry but usually haven't gotten at other places, which have usually been more like tooth mills lol... Dr. Yu paid attention to details and went over everything really well during my exam. She tried to use visual aids and explain things. And, she took the time to understand my teeth and to try to make recommendations that would help me keep my teeth in good shape over time. The challenge for this office is going to be to maintain this individual attention as it grows bigger. It's not easy to find a good dentist who really cares about your teeth. I hope they can keep it up because I really had a great first experience. read more

I am always pretty nervous about seeing a dentist but Dr. Yu really made me feel comfortable. She explained every procedure we needed to do and why. She was informative and so friendly. Her assistant, Monica, really helped ease my anxiety with her knowledge and attention to detail. The office is beautiful and modern. Lekeia at the front desk is the sweetest. I've had a few appointments there and I have taken my 4 year old. Everyone in the office made us feel so comfortable and right at home. I chose Yu Smile because of the good reviews and the convenience of being near my home. Going to the dentist is not one of my top priorities, and unfortunately my teeth can attest to that I went in because I knew I had a problem with my bridge. After my initial exam, X-rays and cleaning, Dr. Yu went over my X-rays and results from the exam with me. I appreciate her thoroughness in explaining the situation. She went through a timeline and costs with me. All I can say is she was far above any dentist I have gone to in every detail from diagnosis, to procedure and through follow up. Pretty disappointed with the bait-and-switch quotes for fillings. Scheduled an appointment for fillings after a deep cleaning. I asked for the total amount for the procedure and was given a call back and told $4xx.xx. When i showed up at the time of appointment, they told me $17xx.xx and basically a "oops sorry". I practically have no insurance (it covers very little to none), and all coming out of pocket it does make a difference when you tell me $4xx and all the sudden with zero notice surprise me with $17xx minutes before treatment. I absolutely HATE surprises, especially avoidable ones. If you were straight forward and just told me $17xx like you should have, I most likely would have been fine with it and we wouldn't be in this situation right now. This is the second dentist that did this to me; I switched here from a different practice precisely because the last dentist tried the same thing. Hope the next dentist doesnt try the same thing again, third time in a row. Huge hassle having to get new Xray/exam at a new dentist just because the last one wants to play games. read more

The staff is really nice and friendly. I had severe tooth pain yesterday and the office was able to schedule me to be seen within an hour. Once Xrays were taken, it was determined that an extraction needed to be done. The office was very helpful and made sure I understood the pros/cons of my choices for treatment and never once tried to upsell anything which, I've noticed a lot (and heard a lot of) other dental offices doing. The office noticed i was in pain and that our goal was to remove the pain as quickly and efficiently as possible. Total time in the office as a little under an hour, and I have a follow up next week. 11/10 would recommend to a friend. read more

I have excellent dental insurance yet Yu Smile decided to do work on a crown that I had to pay out of pocket portion that was not covered under my insurance.Clearly unnecessary work although convinced me I needed to replace the crown. The term bait-and-switch used in another review that was posted on 10/11/16 is so very true. Since my dentist of almost 40 years passed away, I needed another Dentist to get my teeth cleaned. My daughter referred me to Dr. Yu. After Dr. Yu took a full set of Xrays and cleaned my teeth, she then said that I had 21 cavities, needed a deep cleaning and antibiotics (Arestin) and said that Arestin was not covered and she would need $1,200, so I paid it trusting her, since she is a dentist. Later, after giving her the money, I checked my Dental Insurance and was told that Arestin was covered. I tried three times before Dr Yu would send in these claims to see what was covered. Now the Dental claims dept. tells me that Dr. Yu will not give them the Xrays in order to cover the claims for Arestin. For one thing, I have always had good teeth and gums. I only had one tiny cavity that was filled in October of 2015. I am 67 years old and I never get cavities (I am one of the lucky ones), and do not believe I have this many cavities (I could see a couple since I had broken my wrist and could not floss my teeth as good as before). However, since I needed her to do a crown over an implant (due to a fractured tooth), I did not have time to look into another dentist. This past Wednesday, 10/12/16, I had an appt. with Dr. Yu to get an impression for the crown and to check a couple of teeth that she said needed to be filled (I believe these may have needed a filing, since they were sensitive to anything cold). This is where the bait and switch comes in, Dr. Yu quoted me $292 for the two filings several months ago, right before the appt., I was told that I owed $2,690 for the Crown and the two filings ($500 of this was for the filings when she had quoted me $292). I ask why so much for the crown, I was told that it takes more work to place a crown over an implant ($2,200 is quite a jump from the normal $1,500 for a crown). To say the least, I cancelled the appt., and, luckily found another Dentist. My daughter and grandson are also going to another Dentist (Dr. Yu said that my daughter had around 11 cavities and my grandson around 8). How could a whole family have that many cavities each. People should ask themselves, "Do I really have that many cavities and do I need a deep cleaning"? I should have got a second opinion, since Dr. Yu has used up all my dental benefits for this year. And I still have to pay for a crown and two cavities out of pocket, after already paying for an implant. read more
