This restaurant is incredible and I'm SO glad to have lived nearby for so much of my life. It's our…read morefamilies 'go to' Chinese takeaway (I'm really sorry Mrs Lee at Davenham's Sun Ho - I love your special fried rice - please forgive me). It's small, family owned and consistent. Consistently brilliant. Our usual order is as follows: (feeds 3 adults and one bottomless-pit Brother) - Sweet and Sour Chicken; it's honestly the best I've had anywhere. Ever - Char Sui Roast Pork; again, amazing - Soft noodles; with bean sprouts and onion - 2 Egg Fried Rice or 1 Chicken/other meat Fried Rice; Tasty, non-greasy - Prawn Crackers - and one other main dish that we choose at random The family/staff who work here are friendly and super organised; when you arrive for collection (they don't deliver) the orders are spread in a fan over a silver tray - they know exactly which docket to choose from the delicately arranged pile, they pop into the kitchen and out with a bag of take-out-container filled joy. You can also opt to eat in. The restaurant is fairly small but the service is exceptional and the food is wonderful regardless of where you eat it. Car parking can be a little tricky at busy times. It's just off the main road with the car spaces in front. It's tight squeeze to manoeuvre if you're wedged in nearest the house. Also, watch out for the sneaky traffic light camera as you approach. But hey, even if you do get flashed on your way to mouthfuls of heaven - you're the real winner here.

Like all the other reviews I cannot praise this place highly enough…read more A tasty, tidy, friendly & reasonably priced restaurant, that never fails to impress in its quality of food. When you compare it to 90% of its competitors it wins hands down every time! actually make that 98%!! We even tried somewhere else nearby when they were shut and all we can say is, we swore never again!

Our regular chinese was closed because I'm and idiot and didn't realise most chinese restaurants are closed on a monday. So we searched for a local substitution on our Sat Nav (we were desperate and miles from home) and just picked the first one we found, Gonbay. The restaurant has on the street parking and there were a lot of similarly sized restaurants on the same street in Altrincham, all pretty deserted. SO walking up I was a little nervous because the thought of being loan diners in a restaurant terrifies me. But Gonbay was pretty packed on a Monday night and that is because it is a teriffic little chinese restaurant with amazing staff and a really decent menu. The appetizers and dim sum had all the favourites and then some I had never heard of. We had the fillet steak wraps (£5.80) they advertised three but because they knew we were going to share them they brought out four and an extra cutlery/plate setting which was very nice. The steak was soft and wrapped around shredded vegetables, beansprouts etc you know the drill. The sauce was so sweet and salty and the quality of the meat so good I could have stopped there and been satisfied. I was feeling particularly self indulgent (self destructive) so I ordered the Crispy Chilli shredded Beef (8.50) and boiled rice for our main course. Oh my god it was just as crispy chilli beef should be, gnarled old walking sticks of unidentifiable bits of beef, drenched in sugary salty red sauce, surrounded by onions and peppers in a brief nod towards actual nutrition. I ate the whole thing. What followed was a pot of tea so voluminous I couldn't drink it and I really did give it my best shot. Possibly related to this the toilets are very clean. The staff were really friendly and funny too so that fifth star goes to them specifically. I would love to return some time in the next year but I'm afraid I've eaten all my calorie allowance for the foreseeable future :(.

This place is from Hell! I swear on a stack of bibles - in the name of Jesus - Gonbay was the most bland, tasteless meal I have ever eaten. It wasn't just one dish we ordered. We got 6 different dishes to share among 3 people. Each and every dish was bland, lukewarm and just awful. How can a place like this stay in operation? Take my advise - if this were your last meal before death- just die in peace. To top it all off the wait staff The wait staff were rude as they come. Avoid this place.
