Laura is a wonderful and amazing teacher! I am an elementary school teacher; I decided to take…read moreSpanish classes with Laura because I wanted to be able to communicate effectively with my students' parents at school. I took three years of Spanish in high school but didn't continue my studies after high school. Due to not studying Spanish for several years, I lost many foundational skills as well as my confidence in conversational speaking. Prior to the lessons, I was only able to speak several words and phrases, but now I'm able to have a basic conversation. After taking several sessions with Laura I have gained confidence with basic conversational skills in Spanish. The weekly Skype classes worked perfect with my schedule. She is very accommodating and flexible when it comes to scheduling classes. The classes are full immersion; she encourages you to only speak Spanish throughout the entire session. The classes and homework were tailored to my individual needs as a student. Laura is extremely patient and makes each class challenging yet engaging. I highly recommend her services!

I've been taking remote lessons with Laura for 1 year and in that time I've been able to…read moresignificantly advance Spanish language skills. I can now converse fluently in everyday scenarios, and I have an intermediate business vocabulary with an 80% comprehension of my Spanish-speaking professional colleagues (enough to ask the right questions!). I run an international tech start-up that requires frequent travel to Mexico City. I wanted to build on the four years of Spanish I took high school so that I could get around the city while traveling, as well as communicate more effectively with the staff and vendors that were not fluent in English. My work hours tended to be long and unpredictable, so the Skype sessions with Laura were actually a huge selling point for me - I don't think I could have improved my Spanish any other way as physical classroom lessons were out of the question for me. Because I wasn't practicing Spanish regularly, I was VERY rusty. Prior to my first lesson, Laura gave me a placement test so she could assess where I should begin. Every session is 100% Spanish, so I wasn't sure how we were going to pull this off. I am not going to lie - my Spanish was stilted, jarring and filled with "umm" and "hmm" during the first lesson, almost like I never learned a thing in school! Rest assured, Laura was an intuitive instructor and adapted the topics to help me feel more comfortable in the first couple of sessions. During lessons, we used the Skype chat function to help translate or conjugate words I needed to learn, so that was very useful - and I was able to go back and review her feedback afterward. While Skype has been a great communication tool, it only works because there's a seasoned educator behind it. One of Laura's strengths is her ability to adapt and contextualize the lessons to my specific needs. The first couple of months I had homework prior to each lesson, which refreshed me on the basics. Later, the lessons became more conversational and we ran through some business related topics so I could learn vocabulary I was most likely to use. After 3 weeks, I stopped stumbling over my words; after 3 months, I was able to travel solo in Mexico without a lick of English; after 6 months, I was able to understand about 50% of professional Spanish speakers; and after 1 year, I read, write, and speak Spanish daily - informally and professionally. My Spanish is not always perfect, but it's very good and I feel confident speaking to others. I'm still taking lessons to keep improving. I've recommended Laura to other friends and peers because she's helped me so much. If you are serious about learning, give a few lessons a try. Si está considerando las lecciones de Laura, no lo dude. En un mes regrese y lea esta reseña y le prometo que estará de acuerdo conmigo. Buena suerte!

She went out of her way to find what was relevant to us and geared our classes toward those experiences. We learned words, phrases and conversational French that will be current and up to date for today's Paris. I would love to continue learning with her. The classes are held at Oodles in Cerritos, but you can sign up online. http://ilearnhindi.wordpress.com/upcoming-classes/ They have classes for kids age 4 through adult, grouped by age and level, although we only have experience with the kids class. Most classes are on Saturday mornings, but I think she teaches a High School class through UCLA as well. The teacher, Anshu, is friendly, upbeat, positive and encouraging. She presents the lessons in a fun, informative way and the students learn through multiple modalities. They even learn some American Sign Language while learning Hindi, which helps them remember the new vocabulary. Best of all, the kids are happy and boisterous in class--obviously enjoying themselves--which I think gives them a positive attitude about learning the language. I love how the teacher is able to use their positive energy and enthusiasm and direct it towards learning. So many teachers just try to get kids to be quiet. Instead, she is able to guide them and shape the group dynamics to keep things energetic, fun, and educational. Thanks, Anshu, for being such a good teacher and for helping my son learn while having fun.

My son has seen his friends get grabbed, physically removed for messing around, get hit (the teachers would defend the people hurting them), and racism. I've also spoken to some of the moms that have left recent reviews to get their feedback, and they told me their reviews were taken down by the school. When me and my husband looked at these reviews we have also noticed that a lot of the stuff stated in the reviews are still happening. When my son and his class went to the park, he saw the teacher yell a derogatory Asian slur at his old classmate, then when my son came home telling me the news, me and my husband were furious that a teacher at the school has taught my son discriminatory language. We were angry that we were paying over $1,000 in tuition per month for my son to learn hate before fractions. I'm about to list more situations in this review: 1. My son is more quiet and doesn't get in trouble at all, but he has watched his friends get grabbed, cussed at for telling the teacher to not touch them, the teacher started a dynamic which disrespects kids, and they're rude to their parents. 2. The teacher would talk about her husbands g-string, and would talk about sexual things that I don't want my son to hear. 3. The teacher would also take away my son's lunch if he had to re-do the work, and there was this one incident where he didn't listen to the teacher because he was starving and just started eating his lunch, then got kept from going to the park when the class was going, then for the rest of the day he was isolated in a classroom and made to think he was a bad person when really it's the school being cruel. 4. During games class, I find it unsafe for kids to play in an alleyway that has homeless people in it, and I also find it unsafe that they have to move every time a car comes by. 5. When me and my husband were on the fence questioning ourselves about if this is the right place for children, we sent our kid to the school the next morning with a tiny notebook and a pencil and we told our son to take notes of everything that everyone says and happens in those bad situations. When my son came home me and my husband took a look at the notebook, and me and my husband were pissed. From what the notebook said we were upset to learn that the teachers actually violently grabbed a kid that didn't do his work because he was thinking about stuff emotionally at his desk. 6. From everything that we have our son tell us all of these people there sound very unskilled, and should work with kids. Me and my husband admired the Waldorf scene of it being creative, hands on, and supportive but these teachers aren't supportive at all to certain kids who are different then what they like, me and my husband talked to the parents of the kids who have been violently punched or grabbed by teachers, or students. And these parents were very nice people, from this other review, I read all I have to say is you shouldn't learn about the school because it's a cult on my prospective, it's not inclusive if not, everyone is supported at the school then it's not supportive at all, the tuition is over $1000 for your kids to be wearing hate, and to be playing in a alleyway with shattered glass and homeless people. And I fully support all of these kids who have left the school because so many kids have left that they had to merge a few grades together because the parents weren't the same truth I have. and every time me and my husband would have meetings with these teachers. About how they would act with other kids. They would deflect it towards the kid who is actually getting bullied because they are different. the school has also let my son learn about the N-word, sexual jokes, sex, and racist jokes from other kids, This school dose not censor what the children talk about. What I have to say after my experience here is get your kid out before this school is a huge waste of money, and time. For all of the people reading this review get your kids out of there, or if you're learning about the school do not let your kid out there, and maple village if you respond to this review don't try to say none of this happened, because you guys know it did.
