Both our kids have been going to San Marino Chinese after school program as well as Saturday…read moreprogram for many years. Both myself and husband are San Marino school alumni's. It's a shame that the San Marino after school Chinese program has been taken over by this new principal. She is hostile and rude, does not care about the kids or families, and only cares about proving her point. Also there is no longer part time option like before only full time paying option. We don't mind paying for a good program but with this new leadership under this new Chinese school principal, 7 of us families decided to leave the after school program. The previous principal was kind, reasonable , and cared about the students well being and learning and had good communication with parents. This new principal does not care to help resolve any issue or parent concern when we brought it up. She just responds too bad and want us to hear her credentials. Honestly as parents we do not care how high level of education anyone has if they don't care about the people and the kids. That's what matters. She's missing the point. We really hope they can replace this principal.

Unacceptable administration and leadership. Dissatisfied and unresolved. You are required to pay…read morethe full year fee when you enroll your kids to the school at the beginning of the year. This is almost unbelievable and absurd but in desperation to enroll both my kids, I coughed up over a thousand dollar for less than 20 weeks of classes with many holiday weekend. When asked why full year tuition, the reply was it is up to you if you want to enroll your kids. There is basically no POS like a retail business. Just manual receipt. It is no doubt about the price being reasonable if you are enrolled in full year. Not when you start in January but ended up paying from last August. The school should just make adjustment for fee due date, why overcharge the parent for those weeks of classes/service not rendered. It really made people feel uncomfortable paying for the entire year of tuition. Kudos to the teachers and volunteers who are great but not the administrative staffs who are unkind and disrespectful.

They also offer after school classes during the weekdays. They divide up the classes by preschool age 3-5yr old level and grade school age 5+ level. I've never been inside the school but according to my kids, it's divided into 2 rooms, one for writing and the other for singing/dancing. Miss Maggie also has other assistants that will help teach. Overall my daughters look forward to going to Chinese school every weekend. They tell me about all the yummy snacks they get to eat there and get to bring home. Usually when I ask them after they're done with school what songs they learned or what did they talk about during class, my girls always answer me with "I don't remember." Sometimes I get the pleasure of hearing them sing the Chinese songs they learn when they're playing at home or during bath time which is really nice to hear. I'm glad my daughters enjoy their time at Miss Maggie's so it helps grow their love for the Chinese language and culture.

For any adults who have attended Chinese school in their youth, this is definitely not like that. It's actually fun and effective. The teachers are very caring and so patient. At pickup, my kids are all smiles and that's generally true of the other kids that I see. I wholeheartedly recommend Miss Maggie. They take a different approach from traditional Chinese schools but from what I can tell, the knowledge gained is on par, if not better.

I am writing my review here because I see some negative reviews of this institute, and those reviews are not true. The negative reviews even do not explain why the school is bad. I am telling you here why Poly is a great place to "start" learning English. I know a lot of students have passion for fluent English skills, but there are always "steps". It is true that Poly do not teach "a college level English skills". However, it is also true that "you do not need a college level English skills" before you transfer to a college because the college wants you to learn the advance skills in their education system. Poly is just helping students to "prepare" the college level English. So, be patient and don't get freaked out. To describe the atmosphere of the Pasadena campus, I have to mention about this: the school has extremely friendly staffs, Max and Nataly. They always make a smile on their face, and love to joke with their student. They continuously put their efforts on improving supports on their student. As a result, I see they have recently built a spacious student lounge which did not exist in 2011. In addition, Poly provides a TOEFL class, which is for the students who seek for an advance level class. Lastly, make your sentence simple and clear when you have a question to your teacher. The teacher won't "ignore" you. The instructor just cannot fully "understand" your questions. If you make your sentence clear enough, the teacher will answer you. You also should show your respect on your teacher as a student. Because I attended Poly, I was able to transfer to a college, and was able to make more friends in this country. I personally appreciate to Poly for those my personal achievements. Poly may not a place to satisfy your expectation 100%, but is the right place to "start" your English journey.

Note that we were interested in the Mandarin program, so my observations shared here are mainly based on that aspect. This model should be replicated nationwide. Growing up, my parents had to choose between a public German immersion school and our local parochial school. They prioritized faith, which was the right call, but at All Souls, parents don't have to make that compromise--you get both! Dr. Allison is the principal, and after multiple conversations, it was clear how much he "gets it." He has an extensive background in education, and seems like exactly the person you would trust in charge of a growing and thriving school like this. He instills confidence. We met with teachers, parents, and staff, and everyone is kind and the teachers seem like great educators. The classes have very good teacher-to-student ratios. The weekly schedule is better than essentially all other schools, including early release on Fridays (perfect time to schedule doctor appts, dental appts, music lessons, etc.) and Mass only every other week (which is smart because it doesn't burn the kids out on it). Also, it is a very food-allergy-friendly school, with no nut/peanut classrooms TK-2 just to name one thing. For anyone weighing the benefits of language immersion against a faith-based environment, All Souls proves you really can have both without compromise.

The current principal works hard. I think the Spanish program is still decent but academically this school is behind public schools. A lot of kids leave needing intervention or tutoring unless your kid is academically way ahead. I love the small class sizes and loving environment but we left due to the huge teacher turnover resulting in some grades with terrible teachers. If they beef up the academics a bit there may be hope.

Math has always been a sore spot for him--especially with his slower processing speed--but the support, patience, and structure provided by the Huntington team has made a difference in both his skills and, more importantly, his willingness to keep trying. What stands out most is the level of personal investment the instructors make in each student. Mr. Justin, in particular, has gone out of his way to understand how my son learns and where he needs extra reinforcement. It never feels like a one-size-fits-all program; it's truly tailored support that meets him where he's at and helps him move forward at his pace. As a parent, my biggest concern has always been that he not only improves academically, but also feels capable of keeping up with his peers--and Huntington has been key in helping us move toward that goal. I trust their approach, and we're fully committed to continuing with their program. I can't recommend Huntington Education enough. They've been a steady and positive partner for our family.

On top of that there is weekly home work packets go home with the students for them to practice the techniques taught in the classroom. The teacher will review the homework during the class. My son is not a natural hard working student. It is challenging to keep him from distractions. Ms. Liu has been keep us updated with his progress (up and downs) and also giving us reminders on how to keep track of his homework etc. I believe if your children are willing to get help and do some extra work outside of their schools, you will see progresses.
