My son was 8 years old when I realized his physical ailment was taking a big toll on his mental and emotional health. I needed to take action asap. I called and researched about 6 different locations around Glendora, West Covina and Pasadena. About 3 never called me back and the other half didn't see children.
I hesitated to contact Youtherapy as they didn't have any reviews, but it was the best decision I ever made. I sent an e-mail and got a response from the director promptly, Dr. Victoria Keyser. It was a quick phone call but that's all I really needed to explain my son's situation, which she completely understood. She mentioned payments were based on a sliding scale and children could also be paired with interns, at a lower rate. This was a HUGE plus for me as a single mom with mounting medical bills for my son. I did end up making the decision to pair my son with Olivia, an intern. She was the sweetest and kindest person to my son. There's an initial meeting with the parents and a tour of the facilities, before the sessions begin. I was really impressed with the different play rooms for kids and even the lobby itself has a cool waiting room. For Xmas they also gave presents to the children. At some point I also had to cut back on weekly sessions as my son was scheduled for surgery, and I was afraid it would be difficult to change the schedule. But Olivia worked with me to find a solution instantly, no pressure, no hassle.
Olivia's position is now ending as an intern but it actually coincides with my son's last visit, as he successfully got through his last surgery (hopefully) and no longer has breakdowns like he did before. Of course, I attribute his progress in part to Olivia, Dr. Keyser, and Youtherapy in general. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the work that you do, for being patient and understanding in a world that tends to be otherwise. Thank you for making me feel understood as a parent and THANK YOU for helping my son.
Lastly, Olivia, if you ever read this- GOOD LUCK on your next adventures! read more
