The beds all have…read moreindividual lights and built in plug socket and shelving putting them ahead of some of the world's finest hotels in realising that people have mobile phones they need to charge overnight now and they often use them as alarm clocks. Why does no one seem to realise this? There is a great communal lounge area and a bar/restaurant which is nice if a little overpriced. The breakfast served in the morning is great too. It doubles as a campsite and the grounds were quite lovely as it was the summer. However, one criticism would be that it isn't quite as central as you'd like. I'm also not to sure about the price. I was on a stag do and paid £50 for one night...I assume that this included some other costs as for a hostel in Penzance that would be pretty extortionate.

It has all facilities,bikes,Wi Fi,laundry etc. & set in lovely grounds a short half hour walk from town. Amazing history : Originally a Bronze Age settlement, the name comes from Horn (Iron) (eck) Like : Fort of Iron.In the Iron Age Penzance was a trade route to France,Spain & Ireland & it was a fort then. William the Conqueror's brother was given the manor in 1066. It was attacked by the spanish during the Armada landing in 1595 & burned down.Rebuilt,the Borlase family inherited it as a wedding gift in 1718. It was bought in 1960 by the YHA for £20,000

Small camping site in grounds Food is all home cooked and is reasonable priced. Can be noisy when parents don't keep tabs on their offspring !!!. Good surfing nearby, although Treyarnon Bay is more suitable for body boarding that surfing. Fantastic sands for building sandcastles

Now that YHA have changed their planning application from discharging sewage in the sea to…read moreconnecting to the mains (hurrah!) I have stopped boycotting their bar and cafe. Lovely outside eating area in nice weather, almost on the edge of the cliff. Bar and cafe open to non residents. Limited menu but adequate. Serving stuff decorated with a small pile of salad on large wood platters with chips in a little bucket is a bit weird. I felt like asking for a plate! No wonder there are so many birds hanging about watching closely! Anyway, it was quite nice and reasonably priced and the view is lovely.
