The vibe and decor is an eclectic mix of yesteryear meets modern, bright and airy! It's a perfect blend! The new owners are still ongoing their projects of updating many things; yet it seems as if everything has already been done! There has been no detail left out! It's spic and span CLEAN from top to bottom! Super Cleanliness is a big PLUS for me! The breakfasts are absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS! The presentation in the Dining room is where the experience starts! Presentation truly is everything and The Hill House has it! Jim and Cheryl are both very creative people! I'm sure they'll keep the updates going until they have it just SO-SO to meet their level of what they want this lovely home to be! My cousin and I had a 2 night stay here while visiting the Bardstown KY area. I stayed in the Maple Room. My cousin was in the Magnolia room. I couldn't have been more fortunate than to have a chosen the room that just absolutely was everything I'd want it to be. (Be very careful of the lower door knobs or you get locked in your room. Jim is going to change out all of these. You'll be fine if you don't lock that bottom doorknob!) Thank you so much to Jim and Cheryl that made our stay truly enjoyable. Jim, an extra thank you for helping me exit out of the parking lot upon departure in the rain on those curvy roads. To Cheryl, I just hate it that with the rain and all that I forgot those amazing leftovers out of the fridge. I sure was looking forward to that later this evening! You both went above and beyond! Best of wishes to you on the rest of your Journey! I have just a couple of tips for anyone traveling here. You need to physically type in the address into your GPS. If you don't, you'll end up like me driving in circles in some of the most beautiful farmlands and rolling hills I've ever seen! That part was great, but, you may panic, like I did! The location is very easy to pass right by it and end up doing this. However, it was because I spoke my GPS instead of actually typing in the address. Also, if you should have any physical limitations, be aware that there are stairs down to the patio and then of course if you're staying in a room on the upper level, there are stairs. This is an Historic home and there are no elevators. Also, be prepared for a lot of winding roads in the areas between Bardstown and Loretto. The roads themselves are beautiful, but there are so many people that live there that drive SO FAST around those curves, that I was truly frightened a couple of times. I suppose the locals know the roads and they're not concerned. I hope someone in the City Council, or the Mayor, becomes concerned, and SOON. Better to advice their residents to cool it on these roads before someone dies a tragic death here. I hate to write that but I don't want anyone harmed on the roads of Loretto, KY. I can't believe the local law enforcement doesn't seem concerned about this.

The owners added hospitality by having a full coffee service, snacks, and some cereal for a light breakfast. The house is also right on the central circle in Bardstown, so walking to restaurants was very convenient. However, this house is right on the main thoroughfare in Bardstown, and less than 50 ft from the road. The constant traffic noise made it very difficult to sleep, as the bed is located right next to the window facing the street. On Saturday, the noise was constant until after 2:30 am and on Sunday the noise did not abate until after 12:30 am. Each morning the noise started again about 6 am. This was a constant barrage of loud mufflers, pickups and diesel trucks. There is also a traffic light out on the street so we heard these noisy vehicles accelerating from the light. If you have an issue with noise at night I recommend that you investigate other properties. This room, with taxes and fees, was over $200 per night and I don't feel we got that type of value

I do want to leave an honest review for anyone with celiac disease considering booking their afternoon tea. I booked the gluten-free option in advance, so they were aware of my dietary need. When the food was brought out it was flagged as gluten-free (with a cute American flag stick) but had been placed directly underneath and beside the gluten-containing food on the same tray, making it unsafe for someone with celiac. Cross contamination is a serious issue for people with this condition, not just a preference. They did try to make it right by bringing me a replacement plate, the replacement was not comparable to the full tea experience and the tea came out cold. If you do not have dietary restrictions, I think you would really enjoy this place. If you have celiac, I would recommend calling ahead and having a thorough conversation about food handling before you book.

Suggestions are add a place to hang clothing for longer stays and towels when wet. The curved shower cut bars go a long way for larger or disabled people. Construction is still under way but doesn't interfere with your stay. Still a fan at this price point! (Less than $100)

(very pretty, though, and we survived due to my other-worldly driving skills). The B&B apparently has some history to it relating to the Civil War, as does the city of Lebanon. This is supposedly one of the few houses that was not burned when the Confederate army seized it. The house is quite charming if you're into old houses. Our room was fairly nice with maybe a few too many pieces of furniture stuffed in it. You don't really have a private bathroom unless nobody else is staying there. They seem to be improving the place, as they were putting in central air while we were there (I think). The Good: The bed was comfortable, there is free wireless, and the owner/operator is very pleasant. Breakfast was good. The Bad: The grounds needed some tending to. The grass was very over-grown, as were the vines hanging over the front walk-way. Breakfast was about 45 minutes late and we didn't have access to coffee until breakfast was ready (though it was very good). The owner/operators have two young children. They didn't disturb us, though you should know this is sort of a family-friendly establishment. Some of you may like that, and some of you may not. If ever in the middle of Kentucky again, we would consider staying here again.

I didn't realize this when I was making my arrangements. I didn't feel like the safety lock on the door was secure so I quickly put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the outside of my door. I arrived late in the evening and was given a room. I noticed that the television didn't work. When I tried to call the front desk, the phone in the room was totally dead. I had to use my cell phone to call. They didn't send anyone to assist me, but told me to unplug the cable and wait. I did this and the television still didn't work. They had to move me to a different room. The t.v. in the new room worked, but the telephone was dead also. The water was hot in the shower and the beds are comfortable. The rooms were clean and the staff is nice. There is NO complimentary breakfast like the website said. There is a restaurant in the back on the hotel complex that you can go to and buy food. The food and prices were decent. Personally, I won't stay here again because of the safety factor.
