Like another reviewer said, he should have known this better than I, with him being the professional. I asked them not to file neither my nor my fathers taxes and had them done elsewhere FOR HALF THE PRICE of what he charged. The result...indeed the portion of my disbursement was exempt from penalty and my tax bill dropped over 2K. I could have forgiven the mistake but his tone with me was unprovoked and unacceptable. In the end I am glad he drove me away because I am saving quite a bit using someone else and I honestly don't trust he had been doing my father's taxes properly all the years he had used him.

I had done the research on what I would have to pay for taxes prior to selling it and it was going to be minimal. I talked to Jim about this at our kick-off meeting as well. Long story short, after two attempts, Jim couldn't seem to figure out how to do my taxes properly. Both times he stuck me with paying taxes on the gains from the sale. I repeatedly told him that was wrong and the second time, I sent him the information from an IRS publication that showed he was wrong. And then he still screwed it up. I am not sure what his situation is, but my conversations with him left me with NO confidence in his abilities as a tax accountant. I am not an accountant, so the fact that I knew the tax code better than him concerns me. I honestly don't think he should be practicing. After round two, I fired him and hired another accountant, who did my taxes exactly how I expected them to be done. The result: I paid $20,000 LESS in taxes than Jim had figured. And another thing - his fee was outrageous. I have never had an accountant charge that much. You would think he would be really good for that amount of money. Jim - time to retire!
