It was a 20-30 minute evaluation with one of their awesome trained staff to see if Tyson would be a good fit for daycare. Well... he passed with flying colors!! So we're now officially doggie daycare parents! This is going to be so great for him to build his social skills (even though he's already a professional door greeter ). We've decided his full name now needs to be Tyson Carlton Corcoran -- because, well, it just fits! He'll get hours of safe socialization, exercise, learning, and the best part -- FUN! We'd been researching a few doggie daycare centers, but honestly, what completely sold us on Dogtopia was the people. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the happiest, friendliest staff. Ms. Peggy, the owner, came right out to welcome us, and while Tyson was whisked away for his evaluation, she gave us a full tour -- from the grooming room to the play and nap areas, to the feeding room (the only thing we didn't see was her office... but I'm pretty sure her "office" is the whole center ). She answered every question we had -- and even a few we didn't think to ask! It's so clear how much she and her team truly love what they do. She also check both his litter boxes (one inside & outside). On top of all that, she hangs out with him for an hour and plays with him in attempt to wear him out. She hasn't succeeded at that last part just yet. She's more affordable than the vet and our kitty gets to stay in the comfort of his own environment. Nothing better than that. The owner, Jennifer, called to address these final issues. Her exact response was, "I'm sorry we cannot meet your level of service." To be clear, the "level of service" we expected was simply that our cats' litter box be cleaned, our basic safety instructions be followed, and unauthorized guests not be brought into our home. This is not an extreme expectation; it is the baseline requirement of professional pet care. Our issues began during a prior booking when a sitter routinely brought her young child into our home without our prior knowledge or consent. Our home is not childproofed, making this a significant liability and a violation of privacy. I brought this directly to Jennifer, expecting no future protocol violations. Unfortunately, our most recent trip proved that oversight remains a systemic issue. We returned home at 11:00 AM immediately following a scheduled final morning visit to find the following conditions: Neglected Sanitation: The litter box was entirely full with no fresh litter added. It had been neglected long enough that our two cats resorted to urinating and defecating on the floor outside the box. Safety Protocol Ignored: We explicitly instructed that the cats could enjoy the lanai during visits, but must be brought inside with the lanai door securely shut upon departure. Leaving this open during a Florida summer is a severe heat hazard. 9 to 5 Pets completely ignored this safety directive. Lack of Home Maintenance: Dried cat spit-up was left on the floor for days, indicating the sitters were not actively inspecting the living spaces. HOA Non-Compliance: Basic requests to return the garbage cans to their proper place were ignored. They were left out for days, resulting in an official warning from our HOA. Every instruction violated was clearly outlined in our routinely updated online profile. Jennifer's dismissive response proves that 9 to 5 Pets does not take accountability for failing to meet basic industry standards of cleanliness, safety, and communication. At the time I was looking for a dedicated and educated dog lover who could dog sit for me while I travel. However I ended up finding just that and more! During my consult I felt like working with TFTJ would be a rewarding and positive experience so I signed my dogs up for the 6 week training program. Both of my dogs are adult aged but I like keeping them up to date on training and working on their proper mannerism and behavior. Both of my dogs need work on building confidence, impulse control, and general manners. I also have a dog with kanine OCD. Alyssa is very good at focusing on those specifics and working on them in our sessions. We are about half way through the program and it has been a great experience. My dogs love when they see their trainer Alyssa. They are overjoyed and having fun when they train with her. They've been able to work on training inside our home plus in the real world/public spaces. Not only are they learning but I am learning too. Training has also made me closer to my dogs, it's a bonding experience. My dogs are mentally stimulated and worn out after training because of all the stimulation and fun they're having. Both of my dogs have done great on social settings like at the mall, they watch people go by with no reaction. They both think before they act now, such as decreased door dashing and excessive barking. TFTJ is very dedicated to shaping your training to your needs.
