If I could give this place negatives stars I would. My experience here was hellacious. During my schedule exam, they asked me if I wanted a $50 additional ser ice that was going to give me.more indepth info than getting the regular dilation drops but it wasn't xover by insurance. I agreed to it and proceeded to head back to get my appointment started. I see the staff preparing the drops, after questioning why I paid if I was getting the drops anyway she told me I needed both. After some arguing, I was moved through the examination process without the dilation drops. The doctors was knowledgeable and friendly. Moving on to the end of the exam were they for you for contacts and glasses, I explain to the staff member that I won't be buying any contacts or glasses but just getting my scripts. She begins arguing with me that I have money that I can use from my insurance and that I should waste it and buy something. This goes on for a while. And I finally leave with my script. My appointment was 2 hrs and 45 mins long. A couple months later I'm going to purchase glasses online and realize that I only have my script for my contacts, I call and ask of I can get one for my glasses and they tell me that I just need to stop over and pick it up. I drive there, I very much felt like a huge inconvenience. I'm not sure why the people working the front are so incredibly rude but they are. We ended up in yet another argument when I asked for my pd # and the immediate response was you didn't but your glasses here so I am not required to give that to you. It literally takes 2 seconds to measure my head, but even still, if you shouldn't be in business if you going to have arrogance and rudeness working your Frontline. Most people buy glasses online these days, good luck with your crappy attitude, and lack of empathy for people who are on a budget or just plain out don't like the the style of your glasses. I would go to Sam's Club before I ever step foot in this place again. Hell, I would give myself and eye exam first. read more

I have been taking my family here for years due to the proximity to my home, but the customer service has been lacking in recent years and since they got bought out by a larger company have lost that personal touch after one sees the eye doctor. Your Family Eye Doctor is more like a Corporate Eye Doctor who over charges for frames, lenses and contacts. Love the experience with the actual doctor but it is very clinical and isn't ideal. read more

Terrible experience. Don't bother to use the automated system to schedule as they will cancel your appointment despite someone calling you to confirm. The excuse?they've outsourced to people that work from home and don't add notes to the system. By the way, your customers do not care about your issues, fix your systems and apologize and make things right when something goes wrong. The manager Julie was useless and all she did was make excuses. My entire family and I will never be going back again. If that were not enough, all lenses are overpriced and over the years, the service has gone completely down hill. read more

There are plenty of other Drs to go to!. They cancelled my apt because I did not give them my insurance 24 hours. What if I was just paying cash or HSA FSA. I work FT and just don't have the luxury of picking up my phone and checking it. We've been with them for years, they can at least see we are in good standings. I called the morning to give my information and she said I had no appt. They cancelled due to me not calling 24 hours ahead of time with my numbers. They call, text, so many times that its annoying. I asked them to remove my whole family and If I get a call that I need to be seen "you're over due"?, I will call the BBB. I do like the Dr. but the staff is always mean and miserable. I have been going to this eye doctor for years, and always had a good experience. Just went there this past week, March 15th, and this time my appointment left a lot to be desired. I had the last scheduled appointment at 5:30pm. Deb, the optometric technician and the doctor Margaret Nikituk were both amazing. However, when I went to pick out my eyeglasses, Robin and Lisa were not. I only pick out glasses every few years, because I normally order contacts. Therefore, whenever I pick glasses I always want to make sure I think they are the perfect frame. The entire process for me felt completely rushed. I had even asked both workers when they closed and Robin stated "You better believe we'll be out of here by 7:30." They kept trying to pick glasses for me, trying to influence my decision to what they liked, and not my personal preference. They both also asked me "Can you pick which ones are not your favorite or are definitely a no, so that at least we can narrow some of these down to be sanitized." When they weren't in the process of helping me, I also watched both of them talking about me as if I couldn't hear right across the office from me. If they wanted to be out of the office so fast, they should not schedule appointments as late as 5:30pm. I surely hope my next appointment goes better, because I have always loved this office. read more

We LOVE Dr. Justine but will not be back. My daughter has terrible vision and needs to be seen at the beginning of every school year to make sure her glasses are the best possible fit to allow her to learn. I made her yearly appointment 12 months out and called to confirm 2 weeks out. 2 days prior to the appointment a very rude receptionist called to cancel and told me it would be 5-6 months before she could be seen. No reasoning- just "schedules changed due to covid". I asked to be added to a cancellation list and she said she did it but hung up before I was able to schedule an appointment in the event no cancellations happen. read more

SUPER RUDE. I have been a patient for about two years now and am finally making the switch. The doctor's are great but their front desk people and the woman in charge of glasses/contacts have horrible manners. Every time I call them I always get off the phone wondering why I still go there. Do not let them keep your prescription. It is illegal for them to take measurements and refuse to provide you your medical information. They don't want you to take it to other larger retail stores such as SAMs Club etc, however as the consumer you have the right to go wherever you want. FTC: If you get a fitting for glasses or contact lenses, the eye doctor must give you a copy of your prescription - whether you ask for it or not. It's the law. The doctor can't require you to pay an extra fee, buy eyeglasses or contact lenses, or sign a waiver or form. 315.3 Availability of contact lens prescriptions to patients. (a) In general. When a prescriber completes a contact lens fitting, the prescriber: (1) Whether or not requested by the patient, shall provide to the patient a copy of the contact lens prescription; and (2) Shall, as directed by any person designated to act on behalf of the patient, provide or verify the contact lens prescription by electronic or other means. (b) Limitations. A prescriber may not: (1) Require the purchase of contact lenses from the prescriber or from another person as a condition of providing a copy of a prescription under paragraph (a)(1) or (a)(2) of this section or as a condition of verification of a prescription under paragraph (a)(2) of this section; (2) Require payment in addition to, or as part of, the fee for an eye examination, fitting, and evaluation as a condition of providing a copy of a prescription under paragraph (a)(1) or (a)(2) of this section or as a condition of verification of a prescription under paragraph (a)(2) of this section; or (3) Require the patient to sign a waiver or release as a condition of releasing or verifying a prescription under paragraph (a)(1) or (a)(2) of this section. §315.4 Limits on requiring immediate payment. A prescriber may require payment of fees for an eye examination, fitting, and evaluation before the release of a contact lens prescription, but only if the prescriber requires immediate payment in the case of an examination that reveals no requirement for ophthalmic goods. For purposes of the preceding sentence, presentation of proof of insurance coverage for that service shall be deemed to be a payment. read more

Vistied the North Huntingdon location for the my past 2 eye exams, which were 2 too many. My first exam I gave the doctor a previous prescription, was happy with, insisted it was wrong for me, then gave me another prescription for contacts, could not see and had to return for a follow up the next day. Got a different pescription from a different doctor . Wasnt happy with the contacts, but suffered through them.. I needed a new prescription a year later, gave them the benefit of the doubt and scheduled another exam. Explained previous events, presented the same old prescription that worked, the doctor changed it again. Waited a month for a follow up, then charged my medical for my visit. Got a phone call this evening stating i owe $50 co pay for my follow up visit.... nothing but crooks , wouldn't recommend and will never visit Your Family Eye Doctor again..... read more

Just returned home from the most thorough eye exam i have had in years and years and i work for eye doctors! The whole office was friendly and professional at every step of the way. From initial email inquiry and scheduling with Sherri J; to exam with Dr. Chris Cakanac and his team of techs (Mandy, Melissa C, Michelle C.); to Ashley patiently helping me select eyeglasses and go over my insurance benefits, to check out with an appointment for same time next year!!! I have been a patient at Your Family Eye Doctors for over 8 years. Last year and this year extreme problems with the process of having glasses made. Last year it took 3 attempts to make my glasses correctly with multiple trips to the office. This year problems again and no help whatsoever by office staff. Eye technicians lack help in any way and lack experience. Not informative at all. They should guide and provide information as to lens size, the need for transition lens, etc. no help and when things go wrong it's all the fault of the patient. Way over priced on all products. I have paid thousands of dollars over the years with great insurance to end up now with glasses that can't be worn and the only answer given from the manager is you can get another pair made but you have to pay again. Pay again? I already paid several hundred dollars for their mistake and lack of help from the technicians. Plus I returned on several occasions and each time they made adjustments to the frames. That doesn't correct the fact I couldn't see out of them! I tried to explain I was not provided clear information to make accurate selection/decisions but that didn't matter! Again, if the eye technicians provided clear guidance and information you would be able to select the best product, fit and frame. Isn't that why they are there? I will not be returning. I would not recommend this practice to anyone. Look for another practice that respect and care for their patients and actually want to help. read more

DO NOT GO HERE, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU! ONLY THE MONEY THEY CAN GET FROM YOU AND YOUR INSURANCE! My PCP recommended I have a diabetic eye exam as I was diagnosed with type II in late Nov-15. Called for an appointment and specifically asked for a diabetic eye exam, which was to be fully covered by my medical insurance. Mind you I had been a previous patient, and they had my medical records. they scheduled me for an appointment in the middle of December 15. My appointment was Horrible!!! Took over 3 hours, and at the end the doctor said he would not give me a prescription because I just started meds 2 weeks prior. Fine time to tell me that why did they not ask when I scheduled for a DIABETIC eye exam, as I said previous patient and they has my records. So great I was told to come back in 2 weeks for my script, and that was all no other explanation. I came back in 2 weeks and ONLY had the eye reading chart and prescription given. Then came the glasses lenses, etc. The cost was ASTRONOMICAL!! I have excellent insurance, and they wanted me to pay nearly a $1000 above what my insurance paid. I could not even afford the glasses. Then came the bill, Diabetic eye exam WITHOUT Prescription=172.00 OUTRAGEOUS! However this was covered by my medical insurance at 162.47 and yes they had to bill me the 9.53 difference.Crooks. Then the best part, Because They wouldn't give me a prescription, or didn't have the brains to ask how long I was on meds before scheduling my diabetic eye exam, I had to make the return appointment at a cost of $90.00. and this took all of 10min. except for my waiting time.no further eye exams at all, spoon over the eyes, read the chart, flip the lenses, 90 bucks. Nobody there informed me that I was going to be charged again, for this. I believed it was an extension of my first appointment. Also now we were in a new year, deductibles that were paid now were not. The 90 bucks now comes out of my pocket. I have spoken to 4 people at this office trying to resolve this bill, almost 5 months later I still do not have a prescription or glasses. Three of these people promised to call me back, NONE of them did. The last person informed me that I was billed correctly and basically too bad that my deductibles were not met, for something that should have been completely covered. When I expressed my distaste for this and queried her if this was really worth loosing a long time customer over her response was caviler. In my aggravation with her and this situation I told them I wanted to pay the remaining bill, get my prescription and my medical records, and be done with them, and all she kept saying was there is a charge for MY medical records. i WILL NEVER RETURN AND THE BBB WILL ALSO HEAR FROM ME ON THIS MATTER. read more

My experience with Dr. Bartolac was horrible. My appointment was for contacts & and an eye exam. I was there about 2 1/2 hours. Dr. Bartolac kept trying to push me into getting a retinal scan. Which I didn't have a script from my doctor for. When I asked him how much it would cost or if my insurance would cover it. His reply was HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU HAVE TO SPEND!!! Then he said how close are you to your deductible!! I was shocked!! What kind of doctor would say such things!! No other doctor has ever asked me those questions! It was as though that he didn't care if I could afford this extra test or not. He just wanted to be able to bill me or my insurance company! He dilated my eyes & sent me out to get contacts & said goodbye. When I told the nurse that I was done & wasn't getting the scan she made me wait another 20 minutes. Then called me back & tried to force doing the scan again. I did purchase my contacts from there as his remarks were made to me afterwards. Normally they give me a set of contacts to hold me over until the ordered ones come in & this time he didn't give me a set even though I bought a years worth of contacts from them. I believe that he was mad at me for not getting that extra scan. Then I noticed on my bill that I was charged for a custom fitting on my contacts. Which was never even done because I've bought contacts there before & didn't need to be fitted for contacts!! He never used the eye measuring machine on me like they normally do when you first get contacts. My sister, Mom & Dad also had a very bad experiences with him. When they didn't buy any glasses there.......the doctor wouldn't give them their eye scripts. Even though they paid him for an eye exam. Unbelievable!! I'm never going back there! I wouldn't recommend them to anyone!! & It's crazy how long it takes for a simple eye exam!!! They're very greedy rip offs!! I was extremely upset when I left there. Stay away!! Go elsewhere!! I told the doctor ahead that I had cataracts and was being treated by an ophthalmologist. Just needed exam and new glasses. Paid my $10 vsp copay but didn't find out until later that she 'decided' to bill my high-deductible medical insurance instead of VSP. When I called billing they said it was because she did a more extensive exam and 'found' cataracts. VSP would have covered 100% so now $130 comes out of my pocket. Did an exam on my husband but didn't notice he had central serous..he had to tell her. He is diabetic so that automatically goes to med insurance..another $130. Charge for 'extra testing not covered by insurance' $29 and payment was due up front. So after spending over $400 for exams and glasses...that was not enough. She tried to get me to buy reading glasses that I don't need in addition to the distance glasses that I bought. And believe it or not, then insisted that my husband get reading glasses from them instead of the cheater glasses he buys at the drugstore. Very pushy until he had to get a little pushy himself saying he is NOT buying reading glasses from them. Mine and my husbands one and only visit. Paid my bills and I'm DONE with them. read more
