There is a small parking lot. I do suggest getting out of your car and going around to the top of the hill and take a look at the water. There are many other viewing opportunities to see Point Judith Light house. I highly recommend just taking a drive around after You venture to the coast guard area. The history behind this lighthouse is pretty neat. So many opportunities to photograph the lighthouse.

The last time we were in Narragansett it was raining and we did not go to the point. We had seen it many years ago and wanted to revisit it on this trip. It is sad that there has to be so much fencing around it that we could not get close. You can get a picture from the parking lot but it is not attractive. If you climb the grassy berm facing the ocean you can get a better picture from up there. Because it is a still functioning lighthouse, it is secured by the Coast Guard which is responsible for this property, as the signs will remind you.

A beautiful addition to the city of Providence! Every time we visit, we would make a stop there…read more This bridge was renamed to the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Bridge in 2020; it opened in August 2019. It was built on existing piers from the old highway, I-95. The bridge goes over the Providence River and connects two neighborhoods, Fox Point and the Jewelry District. There's a park nearby, called District 195; events are hosted at this location. The bridge was beautiful to walk on day and night. There were railings, benches, tables, and chess tables; at night there were LED lights that brighten the area. A wonderful area for walkers and cyclists. The view of the city skyline was breathtaking. One evening we were there, we saw the star-link satellite flying by, it was awesome. The downfall was, this bridge cost the city $21.9 million when the original budget was supposed to be $2 million. People were opposed with building this bridge because RI had the highest amount of bridges with structural issues. In the end, the bridge was built and it's become a popular attraction and landmark.

The Pine Cone hanging from the archway is part of the Italian American monument in the area celebrating the Italian heritage of the people that have settled here. A little light that…read moresurvives The Sakonnet Point lighthouse was built in 1884 and served to keep ships off of Sakonnet Point for decades. It was a simple spark plug type of light, cheaply built from cast iron and lined with brick. Nothing fancy but had a simplistic type of beauty typical of it's style. At least until Hurricane Carol paid a visit in 1954 and damaged the poor little light as well as most of the rest of Rhode island. The tough little light managed to survive the hurricane but since times were changing and lighthouses weren't as useful as they once were the light was scheduled to be destroyed. Fortunately a group of persevering lighthouse lovers saved the light from destruction. It wasn't restored but then again at least it was saved from annihilation. A slight list from the monstrous hurricane was visible when observing the lighthouse from the proper angle. Finally the money was raised and in 2012 the light was restored to it's former glory. Not the most impressive light but one of historic value and it's own subtle beauty. Fortunately because of a group of concerned people the light that survived one of the worst hurricanes in New England history will continue to survive the foolishness of humans.

Stepping into the elms is like being transported to Europe. The Elms is located on Bellevue Avenue…read moreand was home to Mr. & Mrs. Edward Julius Berwind. The Berwinds were a powerful family of the Gilded Age, and the Elms showcased their affluence. Mr. Berwind built his fortune in the coal industry. The Elms was modeled after an 18th century chateau outside of Paris. Built for $1.4 million dollars in 1901 (equivalent to $54 million in 2026) it served as the summer home of Mr. & Mrs. Berwind. The Elms included one of the earliest electrical system in a private residence along with luxurious bathrooms and refrigeration. We really enjoyed exploring this mansion. Every room had intricate details from floor to ceiling, and personally I found it one of the cozier, warmer mansions that we've explored. Touring the Elms offered a vibrant look into the lifestyles of the wealthy in Newport, Rhode Island. Outside, the grounds have massive beech trees which were so fun to explore and take pictures near. There is a carriage house located on the property with a cafe which features elevated New England classics and farm to table flare. We didn't have a chance to dine there, but on a beautiful day would be a great spot to have a beverage on their patio! lentz_explore

Not only that, but you get access to NARM, which basically pays for itself. I enjoyed the spectacular mansion and especially learning about and seeing photos of the little papillon doggie that once lived here. It is a 14 acre property and the acreage of every other mansion in Newport pales in comparison to this one. A new favorite indeed. The Carriage House restaurant leaves a lot to be desired, but I think it is only fair to review that separately, which I have done. There was some construction here, which was mildly distracting, but nothing too crazy. Everything else here is wonderful.

This beautiful bridge is one of the many that connects downtown Providence with the East Side…read more During Waterfire nights, this is one of the bridges that closes to vehicular traffic to setup for the tents and vendors in the area. One of them main features of this bridge is that many of the gondolas from La Gondola Providence and many of the boats used to refill the wood in the Waterfire braziers are stored under this bridge. This bridge serves as a connector between Memorial Boulevard and North Main street...the street at this point is called Washington street, but as it meanders up the hill towards Brown University, it becomes Waterman st.
