Young Actors Space is a hidden gem for adult actors! I've taken a TON of acting classes at various schools in the LA area. The Adult Acting, On-Camera & Dialect classes at Young Actors Space are, by far, my absolute favorite classes I've ever taken which is why I've continued taking class at YAS consistently since 2009. The Adult Acting class is extremely well-rounded, covering everything from improv (comedic & dramatic), scene study, character study and more. It's great as a standalone class as well as a place to practice and test out what I've learned in other classes, making it a great compliment class as well.That said, if I was only able to attend one acting class in this town for the rest of my acting career it would be the Adult Acting class at Young Actors Space. Patrick Day is an exceptional teacher who tailors the work to each individual actor making this class is perfect for actors of all skill levels who would like a welcoming school to practice, learn and grow in a nurturing atmosphere on a regular basis. I've also learned & continue to learn from my fellow students, pros & beginners alike - everyone brings value to the class experience. Nora Eckstein has taught our class a few times as well and she is an amazing teacher too!! The Adult On-Camera class has helped me to fine-tune my technique and up my audition game considerably. Patrick gently and intuitively guides each student through the process of refining their on-camera skills while helping each person to shine in their own unique and wonderful way. I've also recorded on-camera "self-tape" auditions with Patrick, many of which I've booked, as well as done numerous private coaching sessions with Patrick which has helped me to perform that much more creatively and with confidence on the job. The Dialects classes taught by Scott Alan Moffitt are amazing too! I've struggled with teaching myself dialects off and on for years using instructional audios. I was also really confused as to how to use the IPA effectively because no one explained it in a way that I could wrap my brain around. With Scott's help, in a matter of days I learned how to use it and even memorized it. I now fully understand how to teach myself any dialect I might want to add to my acting toolbox. Yes, you heard me right. Scott taught me all of this in a matter of DAYS. I have also had the pleasure of acting in the YAS Theatre Production of "Almost, Maine". Patrick is an amazing director who really takes the time to nurture each actor's unique strengths and ultimately bring the best out of each actor, both during rehearsal and on stage. I'd also like to mention that the students at YAS are all very welcoming and supportive. The school just attracts good-hearted people, which I believe is attributed to the safe, inclusive and positive environment that is created by Patrick & the rest of the staff. I have become life-long friends with many that attend Young Actors Space and YAS has become a second family to me in many ways. Amazing! We enjoyed watching the show! Frankly, I never expected children and teens to be such great actors and actresses! Great success! In just two weeks they put together such a spectacular performance! A separate part was written for every child and the play was very smart and funny. The kids became good friends. I have been going to Young Actors Space for about four (non-consecutive) years now. It's honestly my favorite place to be, ever. Patrick and Nora are fantastic! They're able to not only develop you as an actor, but as a human being. I went there at 19, very introverted and unsure of myself. Definitely a project. They first had to get me out of my shell, over any insecurities I had, and then they were able to work with in terms of who I was as an actor. The class itself is very nurturing to all skill levels and types. It's not a levels-structure like many of the others in LA tend to be. It's on-going. Most classes are split 50/50, improv and scene study. Each week, the improvs tend to have a different theme. There will also be different warm-ups and warm-up games each week. I could probably write a list two pages long of the different kinds of improvs and themes I've been through in that class , but my favorite by far is called "song day". You perform a few verses of a song as a monologue or scene, which terrifies a lot of people, but honestly? Most people I've seen are empowered and exhilarated after it's over. Not only is it a fun class, but it's full of fun people, all wonderful actors and actresses. Everybody's positive, dedicated, and they're just overall good human beings. Some of the best people I know, some of my best friends, I've met in this class. The way I tend to break it down when people ask me about the class I'm in, it this: "Let me put it you this way. I'm broke. I can't afford to take classes. But, I find the money. I make it work. Because I need to be here." read more

She has attended several classes through the years and said your class was the best because she felt like she learned more. She explained some new terms I have never heard her discuss before. My son has done the Summer Conservatory for the past three years and has taken classes there for eight years. Young Actors Space "YAS" came highly recommended by my children's talent manager. I began sending my daughter to private coaching with Patrick about 8 months ago. Soon after, my son began coaching privately with Nora and Patrick before starting group classes.. My first impression was the positive energy that flowed throughout the building, led by Patrick, Nora and the "YAS" team. They believe in their student's abilities and have an undeniable approach. They also know how to coach to raise the odds of getting a call back and yes, even booked. Yet, most importantly, enabling the actor to trust in themselves and their choices. Because Patrick and Nora respect their clients and have honorable humility, you never hear them boast of the several BIG screen names that have sat in the same "YAS" chairs week after week...not only that, those same big screen (TV/Film) names continue to support at performances and demos of new students. Wow, I am not sure how to give an eloquent review of this organization when all I want to say is how much I love them!!! Seriously, the experience with YAS has exceeded every expectation that I could have had when I was referred to the summer camp by a friend who had her son being coached by one of the principles Nora Eckstein years before. From my initial dealings with Scott Alan Moffit via email and phone I felt cared for, honored and safe with us making the financial commitment to come to LA from Vegas for the initial experience with a week long on-camera workshop. And then I met the crew in person. Patrick Day! Nora Eckstein! Scott Alan Moffit! Seriously, this organization is authentic, caring, loving, insanely talented and most importantly I knew they cared about the well-being of my son. Then, the actual training. WOW! TOP NOTCH! Luca grew so much from the class and the 2 coaching sessions in one week I was blown away! I was encouraged to come back for the 2 week theatrical camp and never once did I feel that it was a sales pitch. Never an ounce of that. They supported me to navigate this new industry and give Luca the best foundation. I trusted them. We committed to making this 2 week trip and so happy we did. Luca became part of the family and so did I. I felt included, guided and again safe in this industry in the hands of such lovely professionals. I could keep going about how the additional private coaching brought a depth to Luca's abilities through the extraordinary care of Patrick Day and Nora Eckstein but then I might just embarrass them and you might get tired of reading this review. LOL. It is more than worth the expense that we have made to travel to LA for this training. We are now making the commitment to spend more time in LA. The entire month of September to start. I first started taking classes at Young Actors Space about 9 years ago and, to this day, YAS remains my favorite acting studio to take class at. I recently started taking Patrick Day's online adult classes in light of the coronavirus pandemic shutdowns. Truthfully, I don't know what I would do during this pandemic without Young Actors Space's online classes! Patrick Day has transitioned seamlessly from in-person classes to online sessions where he covers everything from scene study to improv exercises to self-tape guidelines designed to help an actor film the best looking self-tape possible. Now, more than ever before, self-tapes are becoming the norm for the audition process so, by taking these online classes at YAS, I feel like I am prepared to make a quality self-tape when the industry is able to get moving again. Not only has Patrick Day helped me feel prepared for the future of auditioning, but he and his studio continue to expand my skills as an actor and remind me why I fell in love with acting in the first place. YAS is like Family. We moved to CA five years ago and immediately began our search for acting classes. YAS came highly recommended so we chose to sign-up our then 13 y.o. son with Patrick Day. We have schlepped our son to YAS for four years now. I say, "schlepped" because we drive from Santa Monica to Van Nuys for the YAS experience. It's beyond worth it! My teenage son, who rarely shows excitement for anything these days, always looks forward to Saturday class with Patrick. Last year, on his birthday, I offered that he could miss acting. He wouldn't have it. Missing YAS was seen as a punishment not a treat. Desperate to avoid the headache known as LA traffic my husband I shelled out 3 x the amount that YAS charges for a school in Santa Monica (rhymes with Hedgemar). It was a disaster. Not only was the management disorganized and aloof, but my son felt the instructors were eons behind YAS's talent pool. That was three years ago and we now embrace the traffic to and fro. It's a small price to pay for the benefit of having Patrick inspire my son to know himself. Because that's what I've seen. I've seen him teach his students to get quiet and check in with themselves. Make conscience choices (good or bad). I could care less if my son has a career in acting. I'm way more impressed with the life lessons his learning under the YAS tutelage. P.S. She traveled to L.A. from Dallas to attend this amazing summer camp and she could not wait to return the following year. This year's Summer Conservatory was a great success! Thunder Island (this years performance) was so entertaining and rewarding for all of the kids involved. This place is AMAZING. I just started at Young Actor's Space for their Fall Acting Adults and On-Camera classes, and WOW. First of all, everyone at YAS is truly so kind, humble, and talented. Since my first day at class, I felt so welcomed. Everyone treated me like family, and the environment is just incredible. Secondly, this is by far the best acting place I have ever taken classes from! After every class, I take away something new and I feel like I've learned so much. Patrick is so amazing. The Young Actors Space (teaching children, teens and adults) is terrific acting school. Director, Patrick Day and Nora Ecktein are experienced, wonderful teachers. I have been in the Adult Class for two years. The combination of scene study and improvisation have been really helpful and I find that my acting is improving all the time. The class is also just incredibly fun but I am still constantly challenged which is important. Patrick and Nora also coach privately for auditions. I would absolutely recommend the Young Actors Space for beginning, intermediate and advanced actors of all ages! read more
