Located on the third floor of a building on Bathurst and Queen, it's a short jaunt from the streetcar and bus stop. For warm up, we jump roped for 15 minutes before I learned some fundamental muay thai punches and kicks. The instructor was highly encouraging and offered great direction. The class was a lot of conditioning mixed in with cardio. I was legit, sweating and had a fantastic time. As it was my first time, I have never invested in boxing gloves. There are community boxing gloves available, but I would encourage you to bring your own if you have one, as I had to wash my hands with copious amounts of soap before I was able to get the smell of sweat off my hands. The fees I find are very reasonable. The first trial class being $10, and drop-ins are $25. The gym offers a variety of packages suited for each individual's needs.

I've been seeing results!) It is a 30-minute circuit training with 9 stations, including a full body workout; you work with in-house personal trainers, and you get to punch and kick stuff #whynot lol. Another good thing is that you can drop in any time; the circuit starts every 3 minutes - just jump right in! The only time you need to book a time slot is when you sign up via website for a free trial session to see if you like it :) Please do take advantage of it if you're curious/interested and if you want to make a different in your overall health! Honestly, I have been such a long time yogi; I was a bit iffy about kickboxing/circuit training when my coworker asked me to join - it does sound a bit rough and I'm too fragile and delicate LMAO. I have decided to give 9Round a try; I go with my coworker at least 1-2 times a week after work. You can do the training stations by yourself, or work in pairs - which is what we did - it was more interactive, we had a lot more fun, and we push each other to work harder! After a month, I noticed that I have become stronger (now with muscles!), toner and my metabolism has surprisingly increased (aka, I eat a lot more now! Food fuels my hungry muscles lol). The owners, Joe and Irene, are very welcoming and passionate people, and they know your names by heart right when you walk in... okay maybe not Joe, he still mixes me and Julie up lol. The trainers at 9Round are friendly and encouraging, and always cheering us on... even though I know they are sweaty and tired. So, thank you :) Overall, I see potential that 9Round will do very well. I have already seen improvement - the way the manage the time, the flow of the stations, the adjustments and alterations for kickboxers of varioius levels. I came in for a 30 minutes trial with Joe and immediately felt in love with in. Talk about a FULL body workout, I recall I was in pain for 3 days after my free trial! This wasn't the ONLY reason why I joined though, Joe, Irene and their trainers are all so devoted in ensuring you get a good workout everytime and slowly increases the difficulties as they assess your progression. I can't squat AT ALL back then and now I can say I can do a pretty good squat hold. 30 minutes workout, 9 stations, 3 minutes each station really doesn't take too much time at all and you feel GREAT after. I try my best to come here 3 times a week usually after work, see if you can catch me at 9Round one day throwing some punches and kicks! This gym is for anyone looking to try something new, lose some weight, tighten up, and/or challenge themselves. Or if you have kids with too much energy. Best of all is there is zero ego here, from both trainers and clients. It's an incredible atmosphere to come blow some steam off from a long day, or get out of your headspace for an hour or so. I have countless great things from my experience when this gym was a Crossfit gym. I'd even tell others who live in other areas to consider Crossfit if they're looking for a new gym or a new approach to exercise. With that said, after several months at Crossfit, I realised that I was beginning to plateau. It's not to say that one can't continuously improve at a Crossfit gym, but if I'm honest, I like having things more or less programmed and prepared for me. Crossfit's workout of the day format offers that structure and is a great way to improve and then maintain fitness - but if you want get to the next level after a few months, you really need to consider doing a personal workout regimen, which many do at Crossfit gyms. The move to Impact Fitness is essentially a way of incorporating the things I loved about Crossfit, such as: group exercise, coaching, greater intensity workouts, heavier weights (if desired), a variety of exercises and other elements. In fact, many of the same exercises and equipment associated with Crossfit are still present. However, the class schedule now has more focus on determining goals, measuring progress and targeting specific areas. The daily schedule essentially operates in offering hour-long classes alternating between two types of workouts. One is 'strength', being weight training. The strength workouts in particular repeat throughout the month in order to continue working on the same area and work towards progressing. The other is 'conditioning', which is comparable to bootcamp styled high intensity interval training (HIIT). Beyond that, the workouts are also structured with either being mostly an upper body, or lower body work out. It allows you to plan your workouts and routine according to your goals, which can be done with the advice and help from the coaches. Effectively, Impact is a place where they have done most of the work in providing a workout plan and structure for members. It's really then just left to individuals to decide what their goals and preferences are, then plan their workout schedule and do the work accordingly. This is still with the benefit of a fun, supportive group atmosphere along with coaching. And hey, if you still want to do an even more personalized regimen, that's still available too.

I've had my Hers Kickboxing membership for around 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it. Once I…read morecompleted the orientation, I tried out HIIT Boxing, Taboxing and Power Box. Every class requires boxing gloves; you can either bring your own or purchase/rent them from Her's. Gloves go for $32/pair and rentals are $2 per class. Each person has a punching target (Bob) used to punch and kick during the class. The instructors are very motivating and encourage the class really well when we go through the moves. They are also aware of that everyone is coming into this class is at a different level and accommodate with modifications for the moves. There is a lot of importance given to form, footwork and using the right body parts to increase power in your punches and kicks (to prevent injuries). Each workout class is 45 mins and during that time, the instructors take you through a warm up, full workout including cardio and strength training as well as a cool down. The cardio and strength components vary depending on which workout you choose. The website describes each workout really well and also tells you what level of cardio and strength is in them so you're prepared before you start. There is a mix of cardio (jumping jacks, burpees) as well as strength training moves using weights in each workout. One part of Her's that I really enjoy is the online booking system. Their calendar view of classes is really easy to navigate through and allows you to book classes up to 1 week in advance. I'd definitely recommend Hers if you're looking for a fun switch to your regular workouts!
