From the outside you might be fooled into thinking it is largely soft furnishings that they have on offer, as they have a light show of different lamp shades and lamps, candle holders, mini furniture pieces and other such items on show - both contemporary and retro. This isn't the only item for sale though as they specialise in blinds, shutters, awnings and furniture too, all of which appears to be stylish, modern, sleek and of a moderate - high price range. If you're serious about styling out your new house/rented home then it's worth nipping in here to get some ideas and maybe even a few purchases! But it won't be a short stay, this one's a serious browser!

Cadeux is a unique gift shop that caters for both men and women. I can usually get quite excited…read moreabout gift shops, and Cadeux is not exception! Usually when I think of gift shops, I get the image of stuffy little card shops with a small arrangement of 'dated' gifts that seem to follow the same trend everywhere. Cadeux is a very stylish shop full of unusual and quirky gifts. They even offer a wedding list service so you know the choice must be extensive! They offer delivery on their goods and also an online shopping service. I'm a big fan of the artwork they stock too, from Rolf Harris, Csilla Orban & Nemo to James Blinkhorn, Doug Hyde & Fabian Perez. If you need an unusual gift idea, have a look at their collections.

And er, toilet rolls and footballs! Inside they sell loads of stuff for the home including crockery, a small selection of toys and a fair few colouring books (takes me back! I was almost tempted to buy one!)...and some huge gold painted gilt frame mirrors for £25. Yes prices here are cheap, which probably reflects the quality...but it's not as if it has pretentions of being a top quality up market home ware shop. What you see is what you get. Mega Goods Store is cheap and cheerful, but it sells many handy bits and bobs that you didn't even know you needed!

I have to say, although having only been the once, I was instantly a fan of this fabulous shop…read more Along every wall you'll spot home made trinkets, specially crafted delights, and lovingly crafted goodies that appeal to a wide range of tastes. It's a pure treasure trove of locally crafted art work, paintings, crochet, knitting, jewellery, decorative pieces, hand bags, furniture and more. Each section has its own personality, and the shop shines as a haven of talent, made up of the various creative items displayed within. I realise this perhaps speaks to those who enjoy pretty things a little more than those who don't, but I'd whole heartedly recommend anyone wander in and take a good long browes - be it for gift shopping, inspiration, or simply to marvel at what can be created by our local talent. What's more, Fabrication hold regular classes, including sewing lessons, crochet and more. I've intended upon taking a class for some time, but haven't found the time, although I've heard some very good reports from folks I know who've partaken. Essentially, I've wanted to learn how to sew for a while, since it's one of the many talents my mother has that I didn't take advantage of whilst at home, and would love to see if I can continue the trend. I won't make a promise here in writing, but watch this space. I may be a dressmaker yet! The real lesson here? Visit this place now. Visit, get your creativity flowing, and support the local scene!

This shop is all about curtains, selling a wide range of curtain fabrics, ready-made curtains,…read moreblinds, curtain tracks and poles. They also sell a range of wallpaper and upholstery fabrics. The style here is quite pretty and tasteful with vintage-inspired patterns given a modern twist, with many floral and leafy designs featuring cool and calm up to date colours. Blinds also have a modern feel with mainly neutral colours and simple design. Prices here are very reasonable, so for anyone looking to spruce up their home with some pretty curtains or upholstery, you could certainly do worse than a trip to E.G. Interior Fabrics. A huge bonus in my mind is that this shop also provides a sewing machine repair service with no call out charge...and with the repairer having had 25 years experience you know your sewing machine is in safe hands!

The shop has a very luxurious feel with plush dark green carpets to match the shop front and a perfectly air conditioned blankety warmth that makes the prospect of leaving the shop decidedly unattractive on a bitterly cold February day. Just having read Susan's review I can't believe I managed to not realise they had a giant Aladdin's cave downstairs and now feel compelled to return for an explore! The ground floor sells a variety of jewellery at a wide range of prices from thousands of pounds for a diamond ring to £15 for a simple silver bracelet. There is quite a traditional slant to most of the jewellery here with few items that stand out as particularly unusual, but most is very pretty. It sounds as though downstairs has more variation - I'll definitely have to check it out! The staff at Queensbury Jewellers are very pleasant and welcoming and I'm sure they would be very helpful with any queries.

When I visited recently I was impressed by the sheer diversity of the collection, which contains a surprising amount of affordable items alongside jaw-droppingly expensive designer items, and with the staff, who were very helpful and knowledgeable. A good place to come if you're looking to buy a special present for somebody but don't have a small fortune to spend.
