York Designer Outlet McDonald's Indoor York The York Designer Outlet is a large outlet mall, it's operated by McArthurGlen which is a familiar brand across Europe. It's set a couple of miles out of York City centre, it's served by multiple buses including the 415 Sapphire although on this occasion I travelled via car. The mall is fully indoors, it is over two floors with the upper level mainly consisting of places to eat including McDonald's, Five Guys, Wagamama and Pizza Express. For coffee, there is a Starbucks downstairs and a Pret upstairs, amongst a few other options. There is a good number of stores here, and few empty units. Brands with stores here include Adidas, Hugo Boss, Levi's, Nike, Marks and Spencer, Puma, Superdry, The Body Shop, UGG and others. The brands in question mainly sell out-of-season/fashion gear, I did find the prices still to be a little expensive for what should be an Outlet. I did find it a little confusing to get around the mall, especially with multiple entrances and exits, the construction of the mall is designed to force you to walk all the way around, and getting from one entrance or store to another looked so much easier on the map than it was in principle. I notice this has also been mentioned in other reviews, even going back 10 years, so it seems they haven't bothered to do anything to improve the experience in a while. There weren't any employees for the centre dotted around to ask for help either which made things worse. Good selection of brands to shop and dine at, although dining options here is predominantly fast food and coffee. read more

I went here earlier today, and I can say that the shopping centre was "Alright". First of all, the centre plan was quite confusing, as one minute you'd go down one row of shops, and then the next you'd be going down another row of shops. Also, the centre exits are confusing, as there's 4 (I think) where you can go, and because of the plan, it's really confusing. Also, there wasn't a store map, so I had to go by memory, or just spend a lot time wondering about. The shops are alright, there's plenty of clothes and coffee shops. there's also a food court upstairs, which isn't too big, but is just the right size. The seating is also quiet spacious, and isn't as crammed in as going to a McDonalds on a busy day :D The places where I went was Cadbury's Factory Store, Nike Shop, Adidas Shop, and Bagel Nash. Oh! And I went to Pret A Manger before leaving. 3 stars seems right for this place. It wasn't absolutely dreadful, but wasn't great! read more

This is a great place to buy designer brands at a great value. I purchased today from Michael Kor and the bag I got was 30% off. Much cheaper than going to America to get it from there! I realy struggle to find anything I like clotheswise at the Designer outlet. It's totally hit and miss wether you're going to have a good shop or not. What I do really like is the book shop - full of lovely books for kids at great prices, the music shop - you can always find a bargain here, Clarks - Quality shoes at at least half the price of clarks stores and finally Thorntons, (well I'm a girl what do you expect?) cheap choccy tastic. The food court is not bad either, it's great when not everyone wants the same for lunch - choose what food you want, wether it be Mcdonalds, pizza hut, etc and all sit together with your chosen grub. read more

A place where you can always find a bargain!! Really good range of shops from High Street (Next, M & S etc) to the more designer shops (Armani, Paul Smith, Karen Millen etc). There's a food court upstairs and also a number of cafes around the complex. There's also other shops where you can find a bargain - such as cosmetics, homeware, paper craft etc. The York Designer Outlet is all under one roof so is definitely a good trip out on a rainy day!! You can also get park and ride in to York City so if you're making a day of it park up, grab a few bargains in the Outlet and then get on the bus to York. read more

Not the greatest outlet centre in the world, but has improvement dramatically since opening through expansion, big name signings, and a good selection of shops that you won't find everywhere else. There is one of only about 3 French Connection Outlet stores in the country here, alongside other top brands like Armani, Ted Baker and Ralph Lauren. There is a fairly pitifully sized Next Outlet, which makes the best of its limited space, and offers some decent bargains. There is also a park and ride into York centre, which is extremely useful for people living on the South side of the city, especially as parking in York is a nightmare! read more

The Deisgner Outlet has around 110 shops and is an indoor centre located just on the A19/A64 interchange five minutes out of York. Its serviced by the Arriva 415 and 412 buses as well as Park and Ride from Cliffords Tower. Its a large place with many shops and food outlets, prices are fair but like many outlets you need to search around for the best bargains. There are many 'Designer' shops selling last seasons clothing which kind of defeats the object of wanting to look good in designer clothes anyway. It would be nice to have a few more normal high street shops and maybe some kind of newsagent but all in all a decent few hours out if its a rainy day! read more

York Designer Outlet is the home of guilt-free shopping according to the sign outside. Unfortunately, I often feel quite guilty as I end up buying more than I anticipated! From clothes to kitchenware via the shoes, there's plenty of bargains to be had if you know where to look. Favourite shops include M&S Outlet (be prepared to queue), Professional Cookware (Dualit is still unaffordable), Cadburys Factory Shop (everyone loves misshapes) and Donnay (very cheap England Shirts). For the snappy dressers, there's Armarni, Ted Baker, Coast, Paul Smith, Jaeger etc. Also worth a visit if you're off camping or walking/trekking are the numerous outdoor-type shops such as Tog24, Mountain Warehouse and the new addition of Craghoppers. If you need a rest from carrying all those bags, have a seat at Nero's or Starbucks downstairs, or ride the escalator to the foodhall upstairs and pig out on Pizza Hut or McDonalds (amongst others). read more

really great place for bargains! if you go on the right day! i've had clarks shoes for a fiver! including childerns shoes! my fav store is the shoe studio, fab branded shoes at a fraction of the full price. its also good for mens shoes, my partner had 2 pairs of bertie leather flip flops for a tenner and some other trainers and shoes between £5 to £10.00 including shoes by fly and kenneth cole on different visits of course, not saying all the pairs i've brought! also worth a look is the next outlet there! theres no changing rooms, so to avoid all the travel with returns i tend to buy, then try on in another shop! the kids play area is good place to leave the men an kids while i shop and have a good look around in the next store as it can get really jumbled in there and i'd hate to miss a bargain! another fav haunt is the ted baker store, had many a bargain off their sample rail and the discontinued rail, which is 50% of last price! its a nice all rounder for everyone in the family, somedays i go and there's nothing and other times i need help to carry bags to the car the food court has improved, pret is always good and theres a new pizza express which though pricey is tasty food, though portions i find on the tight side for the price they charge! upstairs toilets are always clean, the new hand driers are good as it dries your hands really fast! never out of toilet paper, lots of stalls so never long to wait or queues. though the sink area can get really wet, and if you have shopping bags like i do, fiddley to find dry spot to put bags down and then pick up the bags with wet hands and walk across to hand driers. never really use the downstairs toilets near gap. they often have entertainment on for the kids during holidays or weekends like t-shirt painting, some kind of art an craft, which is nice and a real god send, for when your poor child is that frustrated with bordom and the thought of going into another shoe shop will push them into a full scale tantrum! gives them something to look forward to, but the queues can get really long and its not always that organise, so people that have been stood waiting can get over looked and some push in without realising. read more

Yeah, this place is okay as far as British malls go. It's spacious, clean and comfortable to walk around, but none of the stores really standout. In fact the only one I remember clearly is the Cadbury Factory Shop because it's always tempting to buy a kilo of reject chocolate. The rest are the usual high street suspects gone outlet. Sadly that's what I find most boring about shopping in the UK. So it's nothing stunning, but if you're looking for something in particular, I'm sure there are some good prices to be found. read more

Well accessed and sign posts and easily seen from the car because it has loads of flags sticking up to help you find it!! There are plenty of carparks around the many entrances. There are so many discounted shops and often the customer services give you an extra discount card for more bargains. Warning you will want to spend lots! All set inside a warm roofed shopping centre, The shops are on 2 levels accessed by moving staircases and elevators. On the first floor is a market arrangemant of resteraunts with many choices of different types of food. You can find a timberland outlet here and many other well named items. compared to the McArthur Glens Outlet in cheshire oaks (ellesmere port, merseyside) This outlet doesnt have as much stores. this one reaching just over 120 whereas, cheshire oaks having over 140. this also has A to Z (adidas to Zavvi.) the york outlet is not as good as the one in cheshire oaks. as the closing times are slightly earlier. meaning less time to shop. this outlet closes monday to friday at 6pm expect for thursday which is at 8. and im not too sure on the rest. however before setting off. you should check out the website and sign up for VIP offers. this just gives u even more cheaper prices then u would already get. it allows you to sign up for 3 of the mcarthur glens outlets. go on any of the outlets websites for more detail. http://www.yorkdesigneroutlet.com/vipoffers/vip_offers.aspx read more

When i have been to York i have been to York Designer Outlet as it is pretty much the same as the one in Livingston which is not too far from where i live. There are plenty of shops to look in such as Marks and Spencers, Nike, Body Shop, Zavvi and many many more and with such great prices too you usually come away with a couple of armfuls of bags. When i next visit York again it is a place i would like to visit again as i am a bit of a shopaholic and York Designer Outlet is like a shoppers paradise and i feel like i am in heaven when i visit there and its also great retail therapy. read more

Best thing about this place is the food court, although i havent been for a while and have been told that some of the food outlets have changed hands, but you have your usual, Mcdonalds, Fish and Chips stand, a coffee bar, jacket potatos stand and a lovely lovely chinese section. Always seem to have plenty of seats and the tables are cleared and wiped very wuickly, hygiene is very good. Tolilets are situated on same level and they also meet good hygiene standards. read more

York Designer outlet consists of over 100 shops, all selling branded items at discount prices. It's quite a big shopping centre with ample free parking outside. It's really easy to get to from York and is only a 10 minute drive from York city centre, or there are buses you can catch. The shops are definitely cheaper than normal due to a lot of them selling 'last seasons' stock, which is often not important at all. Personally I don't go to Designer Outlet that often as I feel that discounted designer stuff is still a bit more expensive sometimes that other shops that are just generally cheap. However I occasionaly pick up a bargain and I do like the paper mill shop where they sell loads of different colour paper, card, and stationery. The M&S there is poopular with my grandma as the discouts there are quite generous and it doesn't matter to her if the stock is not the latest stuff. There are also a few places to eat at Designer Outlet, such as Mcdonalds. Overall I think it's good to go there occasionaly but I rarely buy much from there. read more

The selection of shops here is decent, and there is a good variety of places to eat. The problem comes with access and amenities for those with small children. On our visit, one of the lifts was out of order, with no indication that there was another lift available to use (which we fortunately located by ourselves). The baby changing room in the men's toilet we used was also locked, with an 'out of order' sign on the door, again with no suggestion for an alternative. Luckily the one in the women's toilet was open, but this would have been no good to a father here on his own. I understand that sometimes things break, but some attempt at providing adequate signage about alternatives would be the very least one would expect. read more

I came across this place by accident, we were originally only headed here for the park and ride and didnn't realise this outlet was here! I really loved shopping here, it's much better than a similar outlet we have nearby so it was a pleasant change. We liked it so much we made 2 visits here! There's lots of designer brands here and so many shops that there's something for everyone. There's also lots of places to grab a bite to eat or a coffee. Outside there was a big kid's play area which I'm sure the kids love whilst parents rest their aching feet after a nice shopping trip! read more

I do like that the ice rink is here now, and The Works at the Designer Outlet generally has better stuff in it than the one in town. The McDonalds is friendly, the chip shop next to it cooks everything in lard so I couldn't try any of it, but my bf said it was nice. I think the highlights of any trip here are the Next Sale Shop and Clarks. Overall, though, it's hard to rate because there's such a mix of shops. It'd be improved if it had more shops that were for the under-40's. I'm not sure why the designer outlet is classed as one place for reviewing here. It totally depends on what you want to buy as to whether it'll be any good or not. read more

A brilliantly designed shopping centre, with a well laid out car park, frequent buses to the city centre, some excellent shops with great products. So why only two stars? The experience was made exceeding unpleasant by the intrusion of loud and irritating piped music throughout the complex, from which there was no escape. This was compounded by the additional music supplied by many of the retailers, often sounding in competition with the sound being emitted along the main corridor. You couldn't even visit the toilets in peace. Objective research at Cardiff University has shown that the public's appetite for piped music falls into three categories. The largest group is indifferent to whether music is played or not. The second largest group actively dislikes having the music foisted upon them. The smallest group actually likes having music played. Bearing all this in mind, it is much more likely to deter people from shopping than to attract them. read more
