It was really good, so we decided to order in and we ordered katsu chicken curry extra chicken and the chicken was really fresh and the curry was yum . As for today, my husband ordered his curry katsu chicken again and I ordered garlic chicken. My husband got the same thumbs up for the fresh chicken and the curry. Except for my garlic chicken, the rice was really good but the chicken was a bit dry. My husband devoured his good and finished mine. Then we ordered an yakisoba noodles plate. Now that was really good too. We heard him cooking this dish right after we ordered. This place is really good you will not be disappointed.

Location is prime for students, corporate heads and maybe some daytime boozers. My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place on our way to inspect an apartment in CBD (I wouldn't recommend it) when we walked pass Nuri Maru and saw the $4 box deals. Whaaaat!? 4 bucks!?! We had about 10-minutes before inspection but I didn't want to miss out on that chicken karaage box or the spam masubi or the assorted salmon sushi. Soooo we detoured right inside. Pretty fun atmosphere you'd come to find at a typical Korean-style sushi restaurant - there was even a giant flat screen TV with K-Pop (Korean Pop) music videos on haha. We paid for our boxes and took a seat when a lovely lady from behind the counter asked if we wanted Miso Soup. I declined at first thinking she was trying to upsell me even after we had already paid. But then I noticed the beautiful sign that read "Free Miso for every $5 purchase" or something like that.. I saw "FREE" "Miso" and "$5" so I that's all I cared about. I quickly retracted my declination and said with conviction "YES!" She asked if we wanted two (one for my gf I guess haha).. Again, I said "YES!" as I nodded my head like an Asian school boy. Everything was surprisingly good for something that's been sitting out for who knows how long. The salmon roll was especially delicious - it had that milky, soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture.. mMMMmMmmM We're definitely coming back again.. maybe tomorrow since we have another inspection in the area hahah

The drinks list is basic but the few wines are well chosen and affordably priced, as is the incredible food. They do the usual Japanese favourites but I would recommend going for the Yakisoba or my favourite, especially in Winter, the Soup Noodles. The Lemon Chilli is the best and comes with your choice of Udon or Soba noodles. I get my Vegetarian version without the tempura batter and easy on the tofu. Indeed I am a person who struggles to order off the menu (I want it my way y'know?) and Banzai is another of my favourite establishments that has no problem with this. The salads are also delicious, particularly the not-very-Japanese-sounding Feta and Sundried Tomato. New visitors should definitely try the Korokke (potato cakes with sweet dipping sauce) and the creamy Potato Salad. The staff are absolutely lovely and never complain about us customising our dishes in a myriad of ways. You can phone ahead for takeaways or ask for a doggy bag if you over-order and they even have a small library of truly classy coffee table books to read while you wait for your takeaway. We always leave to a chorus of "thank you very much" from the entire staff. Me and mine have a lot of love for Banzai, so much so, we have even learned to copy the correct cultural protocol when paying at the end of the evening. Banzai makes me very ureshii.

It's freshly made, still warm, and you can put on your own Japanese mayo, ginger or wasabi, so you can have as much or as little as you like. It's straight to the point- no extra ingredients- it's just your choice of filling and avo, and it's like 9 dollars. You really cannot go wrong. The bento boxes are equally as good- and there's a constant battle of what to order. In the chicken one you get rice, teriyaki chicken, tempura veges, salad and chicken sushi. Amazing, and all for 13.50. You get a buzzer and you can go get a drink from the Asian Supermarket whilst you wait. The one thing about Mercs, is that it really doesn't look like much. It really is just a run down international food court- and the first time I went I was quite worried! Once you taste the sushi you'll understand though- it's worth it!

Sushi Bar Salmon, more commonly known as the Japanese stall in the Mercury Plaza food court,…read moreproduces consistently fresh and tasty sushi and Japanese cuisine. Everything is made fresh to order, and for the price it is extremely good value. I often place my order and then go and do some grocery shopping in the centre's Asian supermarket while I wait. If you order a cooked meal (like their bento dinner boxes, $13.50 - very good) at a peak time you might have to wait a while. We last ate in on a Sunday night around 7pm and we had to wait almost half an hour. But once the food arrived it was all worth it - perfectly cooked teriyaki salmon, crunchy tempura veges and super fresh salmon rolls. For lunch, pick up a 9-piece rolled salmon sushi set for only $9 - you can't get much better value than that in Auckland city.
