I think I am becoming more picky, because some studios get it right, yoga or otherwise, when they don't, it sticks with me and the impression is such a bad one. Or I just know what I like and am not afraid to say you should do more or think about what you are providing here..... Pros: Gorgeous zen lobby and yoga room. Free mat. Friendly desk person. That is about it :( I was in a lovely room on a semi warm day on the 6th floor with a huge skylight. Would be beautiful if they again had some air conditioning on. What is with people and no air? If I wanted a hot yoga class I would take it! Well, I set up my mat right under the fan, and what does the instructor do when he walks in, shuts the fans off. So I listen to his talk, none of which I remember b/c I was already sweating and annoyed. We do the typical Ohm's, and begin the VERY slow beginner L2 class. If this is L2, you could have fooled be. Luckily, since the room was sweltering, I wouldn't have been comfortable doing L2 postures and chaturangas right off the bat. After approx 20 minutes, I really was unhappy, frustrated and pretty much debating weather or not to leave- it was a small class and it seemed he knew everyone, and I didn't want to request fans )G-d forbid), if it disrupted anyone else. He noticed my discontent though ( I wasn't exactly hiding it), and I said can you please turn the fans back on? From there, I could practice in peace. It was comfortable. The sequence was VERY simple, repetitive, barely built upon itself, and was barely L1. For this 75 minute class it seems the savasana was like 15 minutes, so the actual flow was very short. Not sure it that is his style, but I wasn't there to lay down all day. I have a feeling it was the teacher, so I will give this studio another shot, but make sure it is on a cooler day, which are coming now. Free mats are a huge plus I have to admit, and the room is very large- I hope I get luckier next time!

An enjoyable, slow-paced fundamentals class this morning with Briana who provided detailed explanations. Yogamaya has plenty of changing stalls (see photo), two gender neutral restrooms with a shared sink area, and a large coat and shoe area when you first enter the space. No showers and no lockers; there are shelves in the studio where you can store your belongings during class. This was my first visit to Yogamaya. Whether you sign up via ClassPass (me) or MindBody (my husband), as a first time visitor you'll be asked to complete a new client waiver form on an iPad, so be sure to allow extra time that first visit.

During our whirlwind of a weekend visiting NYC, my husband and I woke up on a Saturday morning and…read moredecided we could both use a little bit of yoga to start our day... We searched Yelp for a nearby studio with a class that was appealing and we found that this new Midtown East CPY studio had a Core Power Yoga 2 class that morning... we weren't sure we'd make it, and we walked in just a few minutes before the class started, but the ladies at the front desk worked with us to get us registered and into the class and we were so appreciative. Kelsea W was our teacher and she was fabulous... she had some unique sequences that allowed my mind to focus on the present moment and just move / enjoy the class. Needless to say, it was exactly what I needed! The studio itself is spacious, offers lockers, bathrooms, water refills, a bit of a retail store, mats, towels, and more... So yes, CPY is a chain, but it's consistent and if you find the right teacher / class, you'll get just what you need in that moment. Thanks again, Kelsea!

We've had the chance to take classes both in the mornings and evenings, and have likely practiced with most of their instructors at least once. The class schedule is great, and with our membership, booking spots for the high-demand classes isn't a hassle. We've had no trouble getting off the waitlist for early morning sessions either. All of the instructors have been friendly and excellent to work with, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Even when classes are full, the space doesn't feel too cramped, which makes for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. We highly recommend this location!

It's a very spiritual focused studio but they also care deeply about the biomechanics and functional movement. I started going here for the Bikram and loved it every time because every week I would learn something new to improve my form and connect more deeply.
