I absolutely LOVED Aerial Unwind with Rosie! I've been to several yoga hammock classes in the past. Typically it feels like a lot of play with very little structure. Aerial Unwind with Rosie was totally different! The class was thoughtful and had a beautiful flow - despite how clumsy it can feel to stretch with silks at times. Rosie is deeply knowledgeable and connected with her expertise. Everything we did had a purpose, but it was still really fun!!! I felt like I got SO MUCH out of my hour at Yoga Patch and a I can't wait to deepen my practice with Rosie as a guide.

This is my new Saturday morning spot! I went to the hot flow with Rachel at 930 and it was the perfect way to start my Saturday. Make sure you get there early if you want a parking spot in the lot. There are plenty of other things to do at yoga patch. They offer many different types of yoga classes for all levels and there's also a float tank. I highly recommend.

Holy hell. I took my first Buti yoga class here and it definitely kicked my buti! It has been awhile since I have been in a yoga class so I am by no means an expert yogi. One of my friends saw online that a drop-in class here was $5 so she invited me to try a new studio with her. The Yoga Patch has a totally different vibe from any other studio I've been to. It pretty much covers everything you need- yoga classes, massage therapy, sauna and spa, and a cafe! Buti yoga was also unlike any other yoga class I've done. It kind of mixes Vinyasa yoga and dance and it was hard AF! I really enjoyed it because my mind wasn't wondering and I got a great workout. The instructor, Gwen, had such a great energy about her too. She didn't make me feel intimidated by the moves because she was doing everything right along with us. You can't beat the prices here either. Since we were newbies, our fee was on the house! They also offer three weeks of unlimited classes for newbies at only $33. Overall, we both enjoyed our experience and I will definitely be back to try some of the other classes!

Housed in a building that was once part of Kansas City's film row, I had a good feeling as I walked over Joan Crawford's and Jean Harlow's stars on the sidewalk leading into the building. (both screen queens spent their formative years in KC... wow, I have a way of fitting that into many reviews, don't I?) The studio is on the second floor, down past the check-in desk and hallway where you'll find the bathrooms and an alkaline water system. The studio itself is lovely, with bamboo floors and all kinds of wall hangings and statues around the room with Ganesh and other Hindu deities, which automatically makes me feel happy. The room has lots of windows, which allows for natural light and they like to keep the temperature to 80 degrees. No, this is NOT hot yoga (not a fan, personally), but you will sweat. Personally, I do like having windows open, letting in fresh air and fans, but I think I'm in the minority as I haven't found any studios that have this kind of thing. Most classes are taught by Kathleen and Wade, the husband and wife team that own Maya Yoga and both are approachable, strong instructors that will push you as far as you need to be pushed, while not going too far. It's noted on the schedules which classes are more for beginning students, by the way, so take note of that if you are a beginner. Having fallen out of regular practice, I mixed it up a bit to get back into it. I've taken a combination of classes, although not those in the morning or evening (ashtanga) which are really for those who have some background in yoga. I don't love ashtanga, but I did take two intro classes with Wade and he really does a great job of easing you into this challenging practice, for many of us, would take years to be able to do a lot of the asanas to their fullest benefit. Keep in mind, yoga is a practice and it's not about who can do this or that pose or asana. It's hard for most Westerners, as most of us are looking to be "good" at it (myself not excluded). What I've always found interesting is that you can be an absolute beginner but able to do some challenging poses with ease, like from when I started yoga many years ago, I found ankle to knee pose to be a piece of cake while a good portion of seasoned practitioners struggle with this. Meanwhile, I've still yet to be able to put my hands flat the floor when doing a forward bend. Kathleen's Tuesday midday Vinyasa class is perfect and definitely challenges me (hello splits! Still can't do those, either), while keeping me in good practice for those poses that come easier (Yay, backbends!). Today we had a really fantastic sub named Gwen and I need to see if she teaches other classes, because she was a blast- really down to earth, really helpful, but again, it's not gentle yoga (which she teaches as well, to seniors. How awesome is that?!) I come from a Vinyasa and Kundalini practice and ideally my practice combines both. Maya doesn't offer Kundalini, so I'll probably be going elsewhere for that, but I am really happy that I found a yoga studio that I love for Vinyasa!

The studio is warm however the instructors were not (which surprised me). Maybe it's because we had a groupon and are not regulars? who knows.. We positioned ourselves in the back row since we were not familiar with their sequencing or how they ran their classes. The instructor was pretty intense for a beginner class and was a bit too serious for me. Don't get me wrong it was a challenging class and she knows her stuff but the yoga vibe of love, peace and Namaste was not abundant as at other studios.

Once we were able to attend classes again, I was very impressed by their dedication to keeping their clients staying safe and feeling that they were in the right hands. I have been attending classes - a few of which are free! They have 2-3 classes a week that are free to introduce you to the studio and to the art of yoga! Following their social media and keeping in touch with the studio will help you figure out when these classes happen. One of my favorite classes that this studio has to offer is "sculpt." They incorporate weights into a traditional yoga setting. This turns the class into s a full-body workout. As a male, there are times where I may not "fit in" to yoga and fitness classes, but here I felt welcome. I feel that this is a workout that other males may also benefit from. I'm not new to yoga, I'm not new to heated yoga, I'm not new to HIIT. I attend 3-5 heated vinyasa classes a week when I'm home. I signed up for a midday "Hot Yoga" class, literally, that's the name of it. Were there some references to yoga poses? Sure...but that was the extent of the yoga element. The class was heated, so they got that right too I suppose but this was not yoga. There was no emphasis on the breath or correctly getting into poses and utilizing your strength. If you want a HIIT workout and to "feel the burn" then this is the class and studio for you. If you're hoping for heated, thoughtful, meaningful vinyasa this is definitely not the spot. I didn't love the "pep" talk the teacher gave as class got started either, "what are you hear to sweat away today? What are you working for?" Yikes. The people working were friendly and the gal teaching was well meaning I imagine and kind, I'm sure she's not in charge of naming the classes or writing the descriptions. Parking was easy. The studio was pretty and clean. Large locker rooms too.
