Monica at Red Carpet Hair iLash Super Stars is unreliable, belligerent, and dishonest.
It has been my experience that, when someone becomes belligerent and accusatory when asked a simple question, it is because they are being dishonest. The question challenges their dishonesty, as they realize there is no way to answer the question without revealing the lie, so they become defensive and point the blame at the one asking the question. I have seen this many times, and always in cases where the goal was to simply gain a better understanding, with complete faith that the person being questioned was being honest. I first called Monica at Red Carpet Hair iLash Super Stars, stating that I was considering purchasing her Groupon for a cut, color, etc. and asking how much the extra charges would likely be for longer hair. She advised how much it would be for hair past the shoulder, and that it would be an additional charge if it was past my bottom. I advised that my hair reached about the middle of my back, possibly a bit further, but not so far as my bottom. She asked how much the Groupon had cost me, then went into detail about the process that would be required to get the color I wanted, etc. I advised that I was getting married the following weekend and was hoping to do something special for the wedding. We set up an appointment for Saturday at 12:30 at her location in Mesquite, which was the location in the Groupon. I showed up and called to find out how to locate her office, she answered from her car and apologized that she was running 10-15 minutes late. I said that was fine and confirmed that I was at the right location. She called back within moments and stated that she'd double-booked me and had an appointment in Seagoville and was on her way there. She then proceeded to repeat that she usually gets a $10 deposit, which serves as her reminder that she'd set the appointment. I advised that I recalled her mentioning that early in the conversation, but that it wasn't addressed again and she continued to behave as if the fault were mine for not giving the deposit, when I had no idea how to do so, particularly as I'd already paid nearly $50 for the Groupon. She then mentioned that the Groupon could ONLY be used if the hair was no longer than shoulder length. As the entire initial conversation was centered around a price differential due to extra length, that clearly was not communicated in the initial call. However, she insisted that she made it abundantly clear and said that she was giving me a deal. She'd quoted me $75, which I thought included the discount of the Groupon, then said $85 on the phone at that time, excluding the Groupon. When I said that I was now out the money for the Groupon, she said that wasn't the case. I then asked how much it would cost for the appointment. She started to accuse me of being upset (which, though bothered by the seemingly contradictory explanations, I was still trying to maintain hope that it could be explained sensibly and remain within a reasonable cost, so had not become upset) and said that people are always trying to argue when she tells them to just trust in God and that she'd take care of me. She was becoming belligerent, and started saying that she was the best hairdresser in the area and that she worked with celebrities. Of course, her behavior became increasingly suspicious and unreasonable, yet I had already taken the time and planned around the appointment, so was still trying to salvage the situation. I again tried to get clarification regarding cost, explaining that I just needed to know how much I would be out of pocket as I was working on a budget for the wedding and still had to pay my bills. For at least the second time, she completely avoided the question and said she had to pay her bills, too, which had nothing whatsoever to do with confirming the cost of the appointment. When I, once again, explained that I was only trying to find out how much it would cost, she simply stated that she wasn't for me, refusing to service me at all. To break it down, she first completely misled me, though I was up front regarding my circumstances and my concerns; she then double-booked me and accused me of being to blame; and then ultimately became belligerent and accusatory, flat refusing to answer a simple question regarding estimated cost of services and refusing to even work with me because I'd requested the estimate. Horrid customer service and overall repeated dishonesty. I caution anyone from going to her. Additionally, after much effort, I found Linda at Sassy Shears who was able to squeeze me in that day, so that I didn't have to waste the time I'd set aside for the appointment, didn't have to go through near as much supposed work to give me exactly the color I wanted, was friendly and provided the utmost customer service throughout my time with her, and all of this was at a more than reasonable rate. read more
