The park has a very nice paved walking trail, 2 picnic pavilions with picnic tables under it, a bathroom facility, three light baseball diamonds, a BMX trail, a tennis court, a basketball court, and a playground area. The basketball court is in decent shape. The tennis court, however, not so much. It almost looks abandoned. The paved walking trail is in good repair. It. The playground is good. It is lined with wood chips and has a couple of banks of regular swings, a large jungle gym with a small slide, a spiral slide, and monkey bars, a merry go round, see-saws, circular monkey bars, a bank of toddler swings, a slide, a hold and spin. There is a separate playground area for smaller children that is fenced in and has small jungle gym and animal rockers. Both areas has benches on the outskirts that parents can sit on and watch their littles play. The larger play area also has picnic tables placed along the grounds. The park is jointly owned by the town and township, whatever that means and is home to a 300-capacity community building that can be rented for special events. There is the Lilly Building, which is also available for rent and it hold 475 people. The park is well maintained is even though it is not as modern as the newer parks that are popping up, it still has a lot to offer. It is on the border of being a destination park. My littles and I enjoyed the park and had a great time. It was a nice day and we had the park all to ourselves, which was cool.

So, for that reason, Prophetstown State Park gets five stars from me, dawg. The visitor center is not much to see, though, to be honest. There are some displays, and a little area for young kids to play. But it's basically a one-room joint with a small parking lot. And I mean small! I think there are maybe a few parking spaces. This is a place to visit if you have questions or need a brochure, but I wouldn't plan on staying long. The rest of the park is very spread out, so you'll want to drive or bike around. There's an aquatic center that was closed when I visited, and also an interactive museum called The Farm at Prophetstown within the property. There is also a playground, a memorial to indigenous tribes of the area, and lots of walking paths. You can get a lot of steps in here at this park, mostly because there are lots of trails, but also because everything is so spread apart.

The campground was full when I went in today, possibly with end of summer and Labor Day weekend. The signage was pretty clear and there was plenty of directions. Along the way, I took the…read moreopportunity to visit a few places including this small, almost pocket park located near the site of the former Linnwood Elementary. This park underwent a bit of renovation in 2020 with a brand new multi-age playground being added in what is really a small area. This park is only about a 1/2-acre park with a basketball court, shelter, and the multi-age playground. It's a nicely kept park with appropriate signage and parking is mostly in the surrounding residential area. This is definitely in a residential area and easily within sight of several homes. It's not a destination park by any means, however, it's a solid option for those living in this area of Lafayette. I will note that this is not an accessible park. I think a wheelchair user could function in terms of getting around, however, the playground equipment would likely require some assistance. Getting around the park, however, should be fine for those with mobility issues. Overall, this is a pleasant but unremarkable park that is well-maintained and a great option for those in the area with children. While it would present with some issues for those with disabilities, with supervision or assistance I'm guessing there's fun to be had here for younger children of all abilities.

After the flower beds along the paved pathway leading into the park, the small playground is on the visitor's left, the shelter and tables are roughly straight ahead, and in between those is a basketball court in the back corner. Additional benches can be found along the pathways. Seems like a nice place for relaxing! Review #1082

The park has no assigned parking lot which may deter visitors. Some of the trees that apparently used to be located between this park and Wood Street park were removed. (I wonder if it was because there were fireworks being launched here on the 4th?) Flowerbeds that were heart shaped were not noticed during my visit. Frankly, it looks like a narrow blacktop path that swirls around on itself from a walking point of view. From above, a pattern is discernible that includes two inverted hearts touching at their points while additional lines have been added to connect for an uninterrupted stroll. There are some trees and benches along the way, but other than mowing, there doesn't seem to be a lot of maintenance needed. There just isn't much to look at while walking. No water fountains or restrooms. No Shelters or ball fields. It's just a place to walk without traffic. At least the open space doesn't attract mosquitoes or ticks. Review #2741

There are also two heart-shaped native Indiana wildflower areas. Please let the Town Board know how much you like the wildflowers so we may continue to enjoy them! It's very pretty when the flowers are blooming! Also, around the 4th of July (usually the weekend right after it), Brookston launches its wonderful Independence Day fireworks display from the park. My life motto is to approach everything with low expectations, and I think my expectations were very high for this animal sanctuary. That's not to say Wolf Park isn't cool. It is. The tour guides are very knowledgable and engaging, you learn a lot about wolves, there are some neat things in the gift shop, and it's nice to know that there's a sanctuary in Indiana that cares for these canine creatures. The wolves were mostly sleeping and behind fences, and we had to stand way far away from the fences, so it was difficult to see the wolves, most of the time. Mostly, it was a lot of walking and looking at the animal enclosures during the one-hour tour. But we did learn a lot about wolves and animal conservation, which was nice. There are also buffalo and fox here, but we didn't see those, either. I guess your mileage may vary depending on how active the animals are on the day that you visit. Because the tour is a lot of talking and walking and not a lot of seeing of wolves or touching things, I would say that this experience is better for adults and older kids. There was a young child in my group, and he was trying to climb the fence and then melting down by the end of the tour. Parking is in a gravel lot, but there seemed to be plenty of spaces. There are also restrooms on site.
