As a child, my grandfather would tell me of a wise, mysterious, and easy on the eyes gentleman that…read morewould come to power in the upstate region of South Carolina. He would appear to the masses as a humble record store owner, much like Jesus was looked upon as a carpenter. Granddad foretold of this man and the amazing gift he would be to all of humanity and how this man alone would fulfill an ancient Phoenician prophecy that would one day save all of mankind from imminent destruction at the hand of an evil Cabal. Many years have passed since I watched my grandfather weep tears of joy knowing how amazing the future would be and that I would be alive to witness this demigod that he so revered. Grandfather passed on 2 score and 3 years ago and as I prepared to enter my 48th year of life on this realm, I began a trek to the mountainous regions of the American Carolinas not knowing what I was seeking or what to expect, but just feeling that my grandfather was leading me there. One day, by happenstance, I entered a modest, humble artisan shop full of black wax discs that would illuminate any room with all types of glorious sounds. A man emerged from the back area of the quaint store clothed in a beautiful purple silk kimono topped 6 inches above his knees. He wore nothing beneath but had a radiance about him when he made eye contact with you in a way that made you feel as safe as you were as an infant while your mother nestled you in her bosom....okay, I'm done with the story. What I'm trying to say is, Joe is frigging awesome and has a thorough knowledge of all types of music and makes fabulous suggestions regarding bands you may not have heard of to add to your repertoire. His prices are always fair and he always has a pleasant and welcoming demeanor. AND, like grandfather said, he's very easy on the eyes.

We are really new to buying records. And we were buying for a rather odd purpose. We were buying…read morejust the covers. They had to have the records inside but they were going to be used for decoration. The guy was so patient. He let my husband even have a chair so that he could get down to the bottom row. After a quick online search, I was happy to find Don Jones Custom Stereo here in town. They wanted some money up front to do the diagnostic, which is fine. They let me know over the phone what parts it needed, the prices, and I okayed it. The whole process was completed in just a month, though I expected it to be longer. I got it home, and it played like brand new. They did a terrific job. They're personable, they communicate well, telling you what's needed and what's being done along the way, and they're honest about their prices. They even gave me the broken parts they replaced in a bag for me to see what they did, like my old auto mechanic used to do. All told, I was charged a few hundred dollars for the parts and repairs, and it was worth every penny to me. We get attached to old stereo equipment like family pets. They bring joy into our lives, and you don't want to lose them if you don't have to. The business is located in a tiny strip mall on Laurens Rd. with very few parking spots. It's a little hard to get in and out of, but it's doable. In addition to repairs, they also sell lots of vintage stereo equipment of different brands, stereo speakers, turn tables, etc., so if you're looking for something vintage or special as an accent piece, this is the place. They don't take credit cards: just cash and personal checks. I don't have any complaints. Maybe I'd say the store is a little musty, but that's all. If you need your beloved "pet" repaired, bring it to Don Jones.

Every record I picked up had surface scratches or something crazy wrong with it. I picked up a cover to a record that had math all over it from a game of spades. Why the hell would something like that be on the shelf? Nothing is priced. You have to build a stack, take it to the counter, and let the owner price it then. He looks up each individual record on Discogs then charges double or triple the value of the record. Also if you have an issue with a record, there are NO REFUNDS / EXCHANGES. Positives are that it's ducked off in a private location, and it's mildly organized. Prices are not outrageously expensive like FantasyLand or Criminal. They do offer a free $10 record if you spend $200..
