Yelp London's Final Event at The Night Before Christmas - Saying our bye byes to Alex

I really enjoyed this event. It was sad to say good bye to Yelp-led events and Alex, but I think it…read morewas really nice to have a final one. We were greeted by Alex, Shamaine, and theatre members all wearing these amazing balloon hats. I really liked that detail. We got our drink tokens and had some delicious jerk chicken, rice, and salad. The food was really great and not something I've ever tried. The drink selection was immense! I didn't have anything, but we took a couple of beers home as souvenirs. The play was funny and well-written and the actors were all fantastic. I wasn't sure what to expect, and I was happily surprised by the amazing production! I would recommend the show! I met Matt at my first London Yelp event when I was just visiting! Then I moved here a few years later and joined the Yelp community. It's been such a nice group and I'll miss the events organised by Alex and Beth. I think they've built a great community, so I think we'll keep planning our own events too! Alex and Beth, thank you for your warmth and for all of the hard work you've put into making me feel welcome and helping me explore new parts of London. I doubt that I would have integrated into British life without you two! Please keep in touch on Facebook and Yelp and everywhere else. You deserve all the cool things! :)

It was billed as Yelp's London Final Event, so was expecting it to go out with a bang, but instead,…read moreit sort of fizzled out, may be it was because we were feeling the sadness of the occasion! To be honest, it felt like a very toned down Yelp event, as I was expecting 100s of Yelpers not just a handful of Elites, that Yelp HQ would sponsor being the last one! Also it may be largely due to the fact I somehow missed the steel drums music, the face painting, the rude Christmas cards, because when I had finished my meal of delicious jerk chicken with rice and beans, and the spicy-sweet homemade reggae sauce, we were ushered upstairs to see the anti-panto, like no other. The elf and Gary were funny, and the story was quite mad, but unfortunately the two other characters did nothing for me. Then we had a rather emotional speech from Alex. So sad. I do not want to say goodbye! So after the panto, everything seems to have finished, no more face painting, music etc. However, I did catch Bad Santa in his saucy grotto afterwards, even though the lady organising it was not sure, when I asked has Santa gone (cos everyone else has!)? He was hilarious, and we shared a shot, heard some really bad accents, songs, had a good laugh and then were given some rude presents (well he called it his balls but really two small chocolate eggs and a condom) to take away. The ones with their face painted had their photo taken with a 360° degree camera which looked a lot of fun. I wanted to join in, but could not as I had missed the face painter. Although, I managed to take our own group photo with other Christmas jumpers, which looked awesome, instead, To sum up, the food and drinks were good, the panto interesting, bad Santa was fun, and the Elite company was excellent as usual. Great meeting some more Elites! The marks I gave is no reflection on Different Breed who laid on the alternative night before Christmas event in an interesting warehouse full of over 300 beers, but for the Yelp Event, which I felt disappointed with.

Amazing venues, great atmosphere and the hosts are welcoming…read more They provide a platform for single people to congregate and make connections. Haven't met the right girl yet, but having these opportunities helps.

TERRIBLE ORGANISATION AND AWFUL EVENT - DO NOT ATTEND!!!…read more Firstly, upon walking in, I noticed there was no way to distinguish between the public who were already there and those who were single. No way to tell who was who even though there was supposed to be about 50 of us who had paid to attend the event. Secondly, upon arrival there was a table (big enough for 10 people max) - I asked if the event was held here as I thought I had the wrong venue. I was told yes, and that I was the first one even though the email said I would have to be there 15-30 minutes early otherwise may be refused entry. There was no one until close to 8pm. Furthermore, no one checked my ID or ticket. And I'm am certain a large potion of the people who sat down were not single either. There was no structure, I could have walked in for free and joined myself, and the ticket prices were fluctuation every 5 minutes. This was one of the worst events I've been to and in fact I left in a worse mood than I came there in. Furthermore, I emailed the organiser to relay all of this information, and he somehow tried to gaslight me into saying that 1) I wasn't told to come early (even though I had the screenshot to prove it) 2) Claimed that we couldn't have just walked in and joined for free after paying for a ticket, even though I spoke to about 7 people and not one of their tickets was checked. A bridal party at one point appeared amongst us. Aside from them there was no way to tell who was single and who wasn't. 0/10 asked for a refund and was offered a free ticket to their next event which you couldn't pay me to go to
