I only left a one-star review because there wasn't an option to give a review of no stars. I don't…read moreeven know where to begin with this experience I've had with coldwell banker, but it has been frustrating to deal with coldwell banker, and also I felt as if I just got taken advantage of for my first year as a new renter. The issues started when I expressed to the property manager that I would sign the lease as long as the garage would be available at some point. They told me yes, and so I signed. After a while of no updates on the garage, I emailed them and asked when I could get the garage. After multiple times of reaching out and trying to get a straight answer, they finally told me that I could only get the garage after I resigned for another year with an obvious price increase. Coldwell banker then sent me a letter stating that they did not want to continue my lease, and so I was forced to move out in two months. The issues I had been having aside from the garage included the owner coming without 24 hours' notice (non-emergency) to get items from the garage. Sometimes not even telling me that he would be coming over. Other issues included dealing with coldwell banker and their horrible customer service. Again, I felt as if I had been taken advantage of as a new renter. I paid my rent on time, kept the place clean, and was still lied to and treated rudely. They have also charged me an unnecessary cleaning fee that they will not refund back to me. I left that place spotless, and yet I was still charged $325, which was deducted from my deposit, and the invoice seems to be vague on what exactly they did. Overall, I would never recommend anyone to coldwell banker and would advise them to stay away from anything associated with coldwell banker.

I was going to buy 215 Avery Street in Walla Walla, WA. I was pre-approved and had done my own…read morecalculations to make sure that it was within my budget. I viewed the home with Christina Magnaghi and was disappointed to find that the flooring had already been ripped out because I had wanted to pick out my own flooring. Christina said she would find out what he was planning on putting in in its place. I let her know that I really didn't want carpet due to my allergies and asthma. I was also told during the viewing that Mark had materials for both a carport and a garage and would build whichever one the buyer wanted. That was really neat and unbelievable to me but she insisted that he was just that kind of guy and really wanted to sell the house. I made my offer for the full amount of $85,000 using Christina Magnaghi as a dual agent and requested that the covered parking structure be built. My offer was accepted and a carport was selected by Mark as being the structure he would have built. I was allowed to pick out new flooring to be installed under the condition that it was reasonably priced. I picked out a beautiful light maple laminate flooring that was $1.39 a square foot with a 25 year warranty. He began having it installed and I was able to see how great it looked in the living room and the bigger of the two bedrooms during the home inspection. The home inspection was done and came back looking really bad. Issues with black material in the attic, electrical issues, rot and damage to the roof, old warping wood windows, etc. I thought for sure, and was advised by friends and coworkers to do so, that I was going to have to walk away from it. Then Christina let me know the good news: Mark had agreed to fix everything! He was going to replace the hot water heater, wood windows, missing and damaged shingles, and the rotted eaves and take care of the electrical issues and the black material. The house was going to be like a whole new home! I had worried about costs, since it was going to expensive, and mentioned the rebates available through the power company. Christina told me not to worry about it since Mark had agreed to fix everything and that she thought Mark had more money than he was letting on. Everything was going so smoothly and perfectly. Just like a buying a new home should. When Mark when to look at replacing the sheathing in the attic, he realized that he was going to have to replace the entire roof. Christina let me know that Mark was asking that I raise my offer $3,000 to cover that cost, to which I agreed. Christina also asked me what color roof I wanted and suggested a light gray that would help keep the heat off of the house better than a black one would. Since the roof and the windows were both being done, I asked if Mark would be willing to replace the siding too if I increased my offer to cover the cost of the siding. That way the house would all be redone and I wouldn't have to worry about whether the siding, which was a bit shabby, would pass appraisal or not and I wouldn't have to worry about replacing it within the next couple of years. Then the issues began. I signed the addendum to our contract stating that I would pay $3,000 more. Then Christina told me that Mark wasn't going to replace the windows and that it was a good thing that I knew about the rebates through the power company. I got to thinking about it and emailed her the next morning to find out why we increased my offer if less work than I was promised was being done. After going around a bit, she said that they would be receiving bids on replacing the windows. I was then also told that if I wanted the flooring I had picked out put into the smaller bedroom and the hallway that I would have to buy it. If I didn't buy it, I was told that Mark would put whatever he had, including carpet, into those spaces. Since I wanted my flooring, I asked how many square feet were still needed and how much it would cost. I never received an answer to that. The next email I received from her said, "To reside the entire house with lap siding, facia, 3 of the worst windows, trusses and materials for the carport is $15,188.61. So if you want to bump the asking price to $101,000 then we can have all that done." All but the siding was supposed to have been covered under what Mark agreed to. When I pushed back about raising the price so much when I had only agreed to cover the roof and the residing, I was told by Christina that it was an "easy decision" to which I told her that she was right and that I was rescinding my offer and cancelling the appraisal. Is that really how John L Scott does business? By having their agents dash homebuyer's dreams against the rocks and then swoop in on the remaining carcass of their plans, hopes, and dreams?! Shame on them!
