This is definitely the smallest airport I have flown out of or into. But every adventure has to…read morestart somewhere. With a birthday trip coinciding with a trip home, this was the closest airport I could take that would ultimately get me to my final destination. John Murtha Johnstown - Cambria County Airport, or JST (not to be confused with the Amtrak station downtown) offers flights to just two destinations operated by United Airlines. You can either make your way to Chicago or Washington, D.C. But with those two destination you can connect to your heart's desire. That could change at any time, as they have had different airlines servicing this airport. Who knows who may come in. Interesting fact, when and if the President or Vice President ever visit the Flight 93 Memorial, they land here. Yes, it is still a ways to the memorial, but they will fly in here and either take a motorcade or helicopter to the site. When they do this, try to schedule your day accordingly. They will close down the highway when doing this. If you do book a flight out of here, the rules of a major airport really do not apply to here. Usually you show up well in advance to get through security, check bags, and grab a bite to eat. Which is what I did, however I could have saved myself a few hours of sitting at an airport when I didn't need to. With it being a small airport there is only one building with all the services in it, right down to the car rental. All that separates you from the "gates" and everything else is a roped off area that serves as security. When you think of airport security you think long twisting lines that are constantly busy. Not here, you will see a sign on a podium with a Velcro placard that flips between 'open' and 'close.' When it opens, they will make an announcement overhead, but really don't need to. You can check your bags beforehand or in person. Then take them to the security area where they will roll it out to the plane. Something to note, even if you bring a carry-on, they will check it at the gate as the planes they use are smaller than usual and you can really only take a personal item, backpack, or purse with you on the plane. You will get that back at the gate when you land. Security is brisk here. You make your way through the line real quick. TSA Precheck is the same line, you just carry a card through with you. Then you wait in an area before you are boarded. Boarding the plane is interesting as you walk out onto the tarmac and up the ramp to the plane. When landing, same thing in reverse. Restaurant available on site. Car rental available on site. Free parking. Flights are regularly scheduled so you can definitely plan your day around it. Remember how I said you don't need to be here early. If you check in via the app, you can literally park and walk right in to the security line like ten minutes before the plan leaves. For a small airport, it serves its purpose, but does lack a lot. No store to pick up something if you forgot it. Seating in the 'landside' portion of the airport is uncomfortable as the choice of seating for your wait either lacks back support or has odd shaping. It is a bit outdated and obvious in certain areas. However, there is a lot of history to look over here as well. Loads of articles and what not hanging on the walls. I used to just always wonder what this place was like racing by on the highway and seeing the landing lights, but now I can say I have flown out of here.

I grew up here but have somehow never flown from the Latrobe airport before but so glad I did…read morerecently. The first big perk of Latrobe airport is that the parking is free & accessible. The bus literally waited for me to hop on even tho I planned on walking. So sweet! Right now spirit is the only commercial airline flying from here so the flights are limited but there's also upside to that. There was no line at TSA & it's a single area for all of the boarding. The concessions are nostalgic & everyone's drinking rolling rock like it's still brewed here?! The boarding went quick, they didn't question anyone about their carry on size & the plane was pleasantly clean & felt updated. When we landed in Myrtle Beach Airport, it was fun to see the Laurel Highlands advertising there. I'd definitely fly from Latrobe airport again!

According to Arnold Palmer Regional Airport's website, the airport initially opened in 1924 under a…read moredifferent name. In 1999, the airport was renamed in honor of the golf player who grew up nearby and later learned to fly. This airport is small and consists of a runway, terminal for Spirit Airlines, air-traffic control tower, restaurant, car rentals, and several free parking lots. I have never flown into or out of this airport. I have, however, visited this airport a few times for the Westmoreland County Airshow, which is held on a Saturday and Sunday in the summer. In previous years, I purchased tickets for general admission for one day. For 2023, I purchased VIP tickets for one day. The VIP tickets have a regular price of $200 each, but I bought them on sale for $150 each during a Cyber Monday sale several months earlier. The VIP tickets included free parking and shuttle, tables in tents, premium seats outside for the best views of the airshow, a restroom trailer, free food and soft drinks, wine and beer for purchase, and a program booklet. To access the airport during the airshow, my husband and I had to drive through congested traffic on the highway. The VIP parking was located in the red lot. Two small school busses arrived within several minutes to transport VIP customers to the VIP tent. The free food for VIPs included a self-serve buffet of hotdogs, pulled pork, swordfish, pierogies, raw vegetables, fruit salad, etcetera. I appreciated the options for people who have different dietary preferences, and the food tasted good. The restroom trailer could have been in better condition. To flush the toilet, I stepped on a pedal, but the flushing did not work well, and a large clump of previous people's toilet paper stayed in the bowl. I tried to use the faucets in the two sinks, but no water came out, so I performed hand hygiene with my own hand sanitizer. The airshow itself was lots of fun. Across the grounds were numerous food trucks, vendors' stands, airplanes to go inside, sports cars, etcetera. Of course, the main highlight was watching the airplanes in the sky! My husband loves military airplanes, and he felt very excited to see the A-10 Thunderbolt and the Osprey. Other performances were the Thunderbirds, Erik Edgren's clipped-wing taylorcraft, the Northern Stars Aeroteam, and a few others that I did not watch. Please note that if you are in a group and you want to be VIP, then *everyone* in the group must buy VIP tickets. I saw a family in which the father had a VIP ticket, but his wife and children had the cheaper regular-admission tickets, and the VIP section would not admit all of them.

So we had lunch. My husband had the roasted turkey dinner and I had the hot turkey sandwich on Texas Toast. Weirdly, they both came out with shredded turkey, as if it came out of a bag already shredded. I can kind of see using that on a sandwich, but to pile shredded turkey on a platter instead of a nice slice of breast meat was a little off putting. They were average. The service was mostly good, although I had to ask another waitress get our check because ours was MIA. When we did get the check I noticed the prices charged for the entrees were higher than listed on the menu. I understand the need to charge more, but be transparent about it. They did state a fee for credit card vs cash on the bill. The decor was odd. A mix of country and old world and the vinyl tablecloths were really ugly but I guess practical to wipe clean.
