HOWEVER, the cab fair was over $50!!! After a nice tip, it was over $60 for that trip vs the $25-30 uber would have cost. I don't mind cab vs uber when uber is busy but I will never make that mistake again. You should know the costs upfront not be surprised like that. It was 14 miles.

So then when I had to return back home I called again and got another driver, whose response time was also good and fairly personable...no complaints there. But when I went to pay he informs me that he doesn't take credit/debit cards and that I should have told the dispatch that I was planning on paying with that method. Well, why would I tell them they when #1 I wasn't asked, #2 I had taken one of their cabs hours earlier and paid with a debit card, #3 there are stickers on all the windows saying that they accept them, #4 I take yellow cab & Uber a lot and they all take "plastic" (I was trying Friendly Checker out as another possible transportation possibility). I, like a lot of people now days do not carry much, if any cash. Luckily, there is a Publix right across the street and I was able to use the ATM to get cash...but doing so cost me an additional $3.50 (which I should have considered his tip but I will say that he was polite and never rude even with the payment problem and I did tip him). My complaint is not with the driver but with the company for not either ensuring that all drivers accept plastic or at least having dispatch asking/informing a customer beforehand. I also think that the phone answering and dispatch needs to be bit more professional. When they answer you are not even sure if you have reached a taxi company or if they are legit from the way they take your information. When I called to complain about the incident I was put on hold for 10 minutes before I hung up and called back and then the person was rude as she took my info and tried to tell me that if I didn't have the cab # she couldn't report it. I told her that was not true b/c we all know that they have logs of all rides and she could tell which cab by my phone #. I was not rude but calling to voice a constructive criticism that could help them in the future. What if I had refused to go to ATM? After all I rarely, if ever use them b/c I don't trust them and resent having to pay the fee. What would've been the driver's recourse once I was at my destination and all their advertisement states that they accept credit/debit card? I'd say that I would've gotten a free ride and the driver would be out of a fare. I'm not saying that I would never use them again or that it was a horrible experience I just think their professionalism needs to be upped a bit.

When I got in, he started driving and he kept pressing buttons on the meter and told me it wasn't working. He said it was only $23 (my hotel is 1.7 mikes away from FLL) So I told him to take me back to the airport so that I could get a different taxi because I needed to pay by credit card. Then the meter magically started working. By the time we got to the hotel the meter said $8.85. I paid with my credit card but he got angry and said it was a $23 minimum. And we argued for a bit. He was getting angrier and more intimidating and I was getting scared so I just added a 13$ tip to make the total charge $23. I would not have expected such a scam from a taxi that I got from the airport stand. Especially since I told him from the beginning that I needed to pay by credit card. I'm sure I'm not The first person to have this happened. Do yourself a favor and get a Lyft!

When I tried to pay, the driver said he would have to call his dispatcher to authorize the credit card... I tried calling the number on the card to complain but it was taking too long so he got the EXACT fare in cash. Driver was very weird. We used hand sanitizer after entering the taxi and he began yelling that he was "smelleeng sumteeng stwong" . If he doesn't know what sanitizer smells like at this stage of the game, thats an even bigger problem than hustling for cash. Save yourself the aggravation and do Uber or Lyft.

I've waited 6 months to write this review, mainly because I do not like to write negative reviews…read more But I feel compelled to write it because it started our vacation off in a very stressful manner. I wanted to hire a service to pick us up from the airport because we had never been to Fort Lauderdale and were not familiar with the area. We landed and after getting our luggage, I immediately contacted the driver. Only then was I told that our driver would not be meeting us in the baggage claim area, which is what I specifically requested. Looking back at our emails, I missed where the pickup was pointed out in the email, it's my fault that I didn't understand we would not be met in the baggage claim area, so that's on me. But I should have addressed it before our trip. I spoke with the driver, who had a very heavy accent and I had a lot of difficulty understanding him, which he sounded very annoyed about. He told us he could not pick us up in front of the arrival area and we had to go to the right at the end of the terminal. All we saw at the end of the terminal was an unlit area. This is exactly what I wanted to avoid. The pickup area had very little light. But we proceeded forward, picked a spot and I called the driver again. When he showed up and saw my mobility scooter, it seemed to make him very mad. I had specifically requested a van, just to accommodate our luggage and my scooter, and I had communicated to Jiffy Jeff I had a scooter. He was very rude and irritated and kept saying it was not going to fit (keep in mind, it was a VAN). It took me several minutes to explain that we could take the scooter apart to get it in the van. Finally, after I started disassembling my scooter, and he begrudgingly help load the parts in the van. As two women, I did not like getting into a van with a man who was visibly angry, but we did. My sister and I were very uncomfortable. On the drive, I tried asking him questions about the area, for example, "is that downtown Fort Lauderdale?" And he said "That's not where we're going." I said, "I understand, but I just want to know if that is downtown." Again he snapped at me saying "that's not where we're going." We spent $160 (including the $30 tip we we begrudgingly gave him) to go from Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Hilton by the cruise port, which is 4 miles and about a 15 minute drive. It was NOT worth it. Needless to say, I will NOT be using this company again and will just take an Uber XL.

Stay Away From United Cab (Same Company as Yellow Cab) -- Read This Before You Book…read more If you have any other option, do not use this company. I wish I'd read a review like this before I called them. I am a disabled woman, and I was verbally abused by this driver, who told me "you're crazy, are you taking your medication" when I simply insisted on getting an accurate receipt. This is not the first time -- I had already filed a prior complaint against this same driver for verbal assault and abuse, and Yellow Cab told me I would not be matched with him again. They did not keep their word. I requested a taxi for an 11-mile trip and told the driver clearly, upfront, that I was in a hurry and did not want to take the highway. He ignored me, took the turnpike, and the trip came to 21.02 miles -- nearly double what it should have been. He billed me $31.38 twice for 9.32 miles each, plus another 2.38 miles, totaling $77.42, and refused to give me receipts until police made him. When I objected to paying a third time, he threatened to call the police -- I told him I'd call them myself, and I did not pay a third time. I have this entire incident recorded. The responding officers confirmed with Yellow Cab that I was overcharged and told me directly, on record, that I did not owe him anything further. They issued an incident number for a formal complaint. Because of this driver's behavior, I lost 47 minutes dealing with police and Yellow Cab, and arrived at my 6:00pm class at 6:55pm. Even with police confirmation, "Julie" at Yellow Cab still sided with the driver. I had to insist the camera footage be reviewed, and I have my own recording as well. This is not an isolated incident. I had already reported this specific driver once before for verbal abuse, was promised I wouldn't be matched with him again, and the company failed to honor that. That failure directly enabled this second incident. What makes this worse: I don't even have a choice. My county account requires that I use Yellow Cab or United Cab. If you do have a choice, use Uber, Lyft, or anything else. And if you're a county official reading this, know that disabled residents with no alternative are being subjected to repeat abuse from a driver this company was already warned about.
