I gave this a 3 star rating b/c it's middle of the line and I had a good & not so good experience...all in one day. I called for a taxi and driver, Newton, came quickly, was very personable and I would give him a 5 *. So then when I had to return back home I called again and got another driver, whose response time was also good and fairly personable...no complaints there. But when I went to pay he informs me that he doesn't take credit/debit cards and that I should have told the dispatch that I was planning on paying with that method. Well, why would I tell them they when #1 I wasn't asked, #2 I had taken one of their cabs hours earlier and paid with a debit card, #3 there are stickers on all the windows saying that they accept them, #4 I take yellow cab & Uber a lot and they all take "plastic" (I was trying Friendly Checker out as another possible transportation possibility). I, like a lot of people now days do not carry much, if any cash. Luckily, there is a Publix right across the street and I was able to use the ATM to get cash...but doing so cost me an additional $3.50 (which I should have considered his tip but I will say that he was polite and never rude even with the payment problem and I did tip him). My complaint is not with the driver but with the company for not either ensuring that all drivers accept plastic or at least having dispatch asking/informing a customer beforehand. I also think that the phone answering and dispatch needs to be bit more professional. When they answer you are not even sure if you have reached a taxi company or if they are legit from the way they take your information. When I called to complain about the incident I was put on hold for 10 minutes before I hung up and called back and then the person was rude as she took my info and tried to tell me that if I didn't have the cab # she couldn't report it. I told her that was not true b/c we all know that they have logs of all rides and she could tell which cab by my phone #. I was not rude but calling to voice a constructive criticism that could help them in the future. What if I had refused to go to ATM? After all I rarely, if ever use them b/c I don't trust them and resent having to pay the fee. What would've been the driver's recourse once I was at my destination and all their advertisement states that they accept credit/debit card? I'd say that I would've gotten a free ride and the driver would be out of a fare. I'm not saying that I would never use them again or that it was a horrible experience I just think their professionalism needs to be upped a bit. read more

I was at the taxi stand at FLL to get a taxi to my hotel. When one of the friendly checker taxis pulled up I told the driver I needed to pay by credit card. He said okay. When I got in, he started driving and he kept pressing buttons on the meter and told me it wasn't working. He said it was only $23 (my hotel is 1.7 mikes away from FLL) So I told him to take me back to the airport so that I could get a different taxi because I needed to pay by credit card. Then the meter magically started working. By the time we got to the hotel the meter said $8.85. I paid with my credit card but he got angry and said it was a $23 minimum. And we argued for a bit. He was getting angrier and more intimidating and I was getting scared so I just added a 13$ tip to make the total charge $23. I would not have expected such a scam from a taxi that I got from the airport stand. Especially since I told him from the beginning that I needed to pay by credit card. I'm sure I'm not The first person to have this happened. Do yourself a favor and get a Lyft! read more

A group of 8 friends and I had disembarked from a cruise ship at the port of Fort Lauderdale and needed to get to the airport to fly home. I and four friends boarded cab #810, license no. 802 KLT, with our baggage, and the remainder of our group boarded the next cab. 5 minutes into the drive I noticed that the driver had failed to turn on the meter. I asked about it and he snapped that it was a $30 flat rate to the airport from the cruise terminal. We argued that: (1) flat rates are ILLEGAL; the driver may charge in addition to the metered fare a maximum of $10 as a fee (2) the taxi ride TO the port was only about $12 including tip The driver (who gave his name as "John" and was NOT displaying a license) became belligerent and offered to take $20 instead, giving us bullshit arguments about how it "costs more for an SUV." I called our friends in the other cab to confirm that their meter was running -- it was. We told our driver that we would only pay him what the our friends in the other cab paid their driver. Then the idiot turned on the meter at this point. We arrived at the airport without further incident. The metered fair was $9.30, and we handed over $15 (the amount our friends in the other cab paid). I called Friendly Checker Taxi and the woman on the phone indicated that this driver has received numerous complaints. She directed me to the Broward County Consumer Protection Division, where I will be filing a formal complaint via US mail. Further research shows that Friendly Checker Taxi is overall a sketchy company with unscrupulous drivers. The more people that complain directly to the Board, the better it will be for travelers to and from Broward County, FL, especially those travelers that don't have a group advantage or are unaware that this type of worthless scumbag taxi drivers exist. read more

I have never had a worse experience with a taxi service. I have taken taxis from Fort Lauderdale Airport to the same location for over 10 years. The process is always the same; an individual asks how many passengers and luggage and directs us to the first available taxi that can fit us or suggests taking two taxis. Today started the same. However after saying we had 6 passengers and 9 luggages we were directed to a truck. Apparently after leaving the airport our driver stopped the meter. When we arrived at our destination we were told that each of us owed him $10. This $60 total was significantly higher than expected as we travel here often and usually end with a fare around $30. Confused, we argued but he told us this was how they handle big groups with luggage. He was obviously just trying to scam a group of young females. Eventually we gave up because he kept fighting and we were just eager to start our vacation. Once he got our money he sped off, barely giving us time to move our luggage away. We called the company who seemed apologetic. However they said they would call us back to better handle the situation. Nothing has been done and we have heard nothing. This is a horrible service that thinks they can take advantage of tourists in the area. Would highly suggest staying away from these drivers. read more

This taxi service is anything but friendly. We grabbed a cab at the airport and gave the driver the address to our AirBNB. He responded by telling us that he only knows where the hotels are not addresses. He didn't have a GPS in the vehicle so I pulled up the address on my phone and told him how to get there. Once we found the AirBNB, we paid w/ a Visa and selected the "no receipt" option. On our end it showed that the transaction was completed but our driver said it hadn't because there was no receipt. I explained what we'd seen using the credit card machine and even pulled up our credit card account on my phone showing that the transaction had gone through. He kept saying that means nothing to him and became belligerent. He was swearing at us and I began to feel unsafe so I told him that I was done talking to him and that he needed to check on his end to see that it went through. I quickly went inside the house and locked the door. He proceeded to call the police and waste their time. Two very wonderful officers arrived, heard both our stories, and told him that it was evident through my credit card statement that the charge went through and that he needed to leave. I called the cab company's office. They apologized and said that since I wanted a refund to call M-F from 9-5 when a supervisor would be available. Will be doing that ASAP! read more

My driver called the cops on me when I tried to pay with a credit card. Seriously. Right there at terminal 2 at the Ft. Lauderdale airport. The driver's car had no markings to suggest that it was a cash-only operation, and he did not say anything about it until I tried to hand him my card at the end of the ride. He got belligerent instantly, and I got on the phone with his company to have them send a different cab that could process the payment. Four cops showed up, and it only took one to tell him that he needed to warn people before they got in the car that he didn't accept credit cards. What an absolute joke of a company. read more

Use only if you have a serious death wish and want to be ripped off. I have used this service (even tho I read the reviews) because the one I called first didn't had a van and I needed more space than a normal car. I used it again because it was the first in row at the airport. The cars they ride are total wrecks and shouldn't be on the road. The driving is is terrible and you should be prepared to endure some nerve wrecking dangerous situations. I doubt a driver license is a requirement to work for this company. When picked up from the airport (Van with FL license plate BPT A35), I assumed the driver did not realize we knew the way. He took us the wrong direction after clearly telling him where to go. Not just a wrong turn, but heading North instead of South. After that, I guided him turn by turn, so he couldn't try this again. On a busy intersection, he couldn't stand there were two cars in front of him before turning left, so he started honking like a madman and eventual passed those cars on the wrong side of the road. He endangered us, the other cars turning left and the cars coming from the opposite direction. To end this trip, he refused payment by credit card and demanded cash. As i never have cash on me (and he didn't mention his payment options when picking us up at the airport), we ended arguing on this. He demanded that I should go to an ATM and that we should pay his waiting fare. Please avoid this company as they have a lousy service, lousy telephone response, are late when reserved a day in time and for a 5 AM pickup, have no respect for the items your are carrying, endangering you and your loved ones, take deliberate wrong turns, drive in wrecks, drivers are rude, etc... I have had better service in third world countries, with better and friendly drivers and without the ripoff. Friendly Checker Taxi should be out of business as soon as possible to create safer traffic. read more

Is it possible to give negative stars? This company is awful and their drivers are disreputable. DO NOT EVER get into one of these cabs from the cab stand at Ft. Lauderdale Airport. 1. halfway thru the ride the driver told us he could not accept credit cards only cash. 2. Driver had hat over the meter when he picked us up. We would later discover that it was most likely because there was already time on the meter before we ever got into the cab. 3. Driver got pulled over by the police for speeding and did NOT turn off the meter while he was being ticketed and the meter continued to run. 4. We called customer service while on the traffic stop and they were no help. 5. We ended up paying the driver a self deducted cab fare but we realized later after we took another cab company the same exact route going back that we were over charged even with our DEDUCT. Awful, terrible, are only 2 words I can use to describe this service/company. I could use many more, some not so polite. read more

They did a great job with a difficult order: 4 People from a high-security gated community at 4am to the airport. It took a big cab, on-time, at an early hour, dealing with a security check. All went well, they had a backukp cab available, and were pleasant to work with. I would highly recommend them. read more

No star should be given but i have to leave one. They are by far the worst!!! A group of friends were going out so we called this company for a taxi the dispatcher told us on the phone 15 mins well 45 mins goes by we call again to see whats going the not so friendly dispatcher says "He is on the way he should be there in 15 mins" like he should of been 45mins prior an hour an a half goes by we call again the not so friendly dispatcher gives us an attitude when we asked how much longer he hung up on us!!! No taxi was dispatched to us one never showed up. We ended up using Uber an they are very friendly an fast. I will never again call for a taxi.. If you do need a taxi i recommend calling hours inadvance to when you need it. An the dispatchers are rude an have no customer service skills. 5/3/2015 read more

The ride wasn't anything special, just your run of the mill cab experience, but keep an eye on your stuff, because if you leave anything, it's gone. My wife dropped a travel wallet containing our passports, licenses, and credit cards, and when we called the company claims they have absolutely no way to radio their drivers because they're "independent", and even once we figured out the car number, and called in, the operator simply said "we don't know anything" and hung up. We called back, and after explaining the situation again, they put us on hold, then hung up. Use any other taxi service, or even better, Uber or Lyft if you can. This company is a joke. read more

Rode in cab in #513 from Ft. Lauderdale Seaport to airport and was overcharged. My friends took the route 1 hour earlier and it cost them $14.50...for us it was $20.10. When I called to inquire about the cost with the main office 954.999.9999 I was told it was around $15. When I informed them I was charged $20 the response was, "Well, that is close enough." They asked me what I was complaining about and if I thought the meter was running fast. I told them I felt that the took a longer route than necessary to increase his fare. Again their response was, "That is close enough." They then disconnected our phone call. Find another service! read more

Almost had to call 911 today. My driver came onto me and also took me 30 minutes out of my way and said "we are taking the long way." Extremely scary and I made him drop me off on side of the road. It was 30'dollars for not only an uncomfortable experience but not even taking me to my destination. Females, I highly suggest you do NOT ever get in the car with this cab company. He asked me over and over "what do you see in me that you like" "why don't you have a boyfriend" "just hang out with me" ... not even half of it. Tried selling me drugs and when I got on the phone to try and stay calm he blasted the music so I couldn't head. I was shaking and crying when it was over. read more

If I could give no stars or less I would. Took cab from cruise ship to outlet mall to kill some time before flight home. Driver didn't help with luggage until it was all done. Cab was old and smelled a bit unusual. Driver was listening to a church service on the radio the entire trip and never once turned the volume down. So much for conversation amongst our group during the 20 min ride. Driver gave me his card and told me to call him when we wanted to be picked up. Called main number. Lady with a big attitude answered phone and told me they didn't pick up there and then hung up on me. If I ever come down here again I wouldn't use them ever again. Hello, I just wish my message will reach someone who cares. This is the worst cab company I was ever dealing with. For so many times I was giving u another chance, but I'm really sick of everything. Never ever on my life I'll use ur service, because there is no service. It's fine that most of cars so old and nasty inside, most of drivers don't know how to speak-that's ok...me and my son lost few doctors appointments just because call center didn't give request right after call or giving wrong address MOST OF THE TIME. Even once driver started to scream at me and hang up after I started complaining where he is. I contacted call center and they told me: you were mean to our best driver, so go look for another company we will not send anybody else to ur address! Is that the way of treating ur customers???? I was staying outside with sick child for more than hour trying to get to the hospital. Anyway, God bless those people, they will definitely get what they deserve. Today, finally, I was shopping in Publix at Young circle and card full of products stacked (was blocked) I couldn't go to the cabs which we're staying on their station few feet away from me cos card is not moving...I called call center and what they told me: I have to stay in front of the shop otherwise they won't pick me up or to go and get one car by my self. PEOPLE, ARE U OUT OF UR MIND??? no brain left at all??? I cannot move, card stacked! Thanks God this is not the one cab can't in the area, they picked me up in 5 min without asking and complaining where I am and where I should to stay. At the end I'm the one who paying money, so I can chose what to do by myself. God bless everybody working here!!! read more

DO NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY IF YOU NEED TO GET SOMEWHERE ON TIME. We called them the night before -- we needed a van bc we needed to take a flight with lots of luggage. We didn't ask for a van for fun! We don't just have a van fetish! Of course, they assured us they had a van and it would be available at 4:30. We called again to confirm at 4:20. And guess what showed up (LATE? Ten minutes late.) A car. So we call. Again. They'll have a van in five minutes. The driver (thank you!!!! I hope you get work with Uber when they finally put this pos company out of business!) told us his boss said there were no vans. And you know what, that's what really pisses me off. If you look through my history I have very few poor reviews. Things happen, life happens. But have the decency to let me know so I can make plans and not miss my flight. Why am I finding out through your driver??? Call me. That's the least you can do. Why am I finding out thirty minutes later from your driver that you have no vans? Anyway, I just wanted to warn anyone else on a time crunch to pick someone else. Like maybe ride a bike you'll get there faster. read more

Terrible company. I called Friendly Checker February 27 at 11:15am for a cab. 45 minutes later, and despite 3 calls, I was still waiting at Walmart on Hallandale Blvd. NO cab ever showed up. There should be a selection for ZERO stars!! Avoid this company at all costs. I am not even sure they are legitimate as there isn't a listing with Florida's Secretary of State Corporation division for Friendly Checker Taxi. The previous post about the dispatchers being ex-rehabbers is probably true - they are rude, unprofessional and clearly not playing with a full deck. I tried several times to report Cab #513 crossing into my lane and running me slightly off the road, and they couldn't care less. I wanted to let the company know about their driver's behavior. The guy who took my call originally told me it was a police matter and not something for a manager to handle (really?) then hung up on me. I called back and this idiot woman answers, I ask to speak to a manager and she says no and hangs up. LOL! What kind of people besides whacked out individuals act this way?? Avoid!! read more
