A terrific stop off the beaten path, a few streets away from the prime Greenwich pier tourist area. Traditional local pub that is part of the Greene Ale chain... Food was good & the beers are always great. Staff are super nice & attentive. For those staying in town, the spot seems to have a pretty lively night scene planned throughout each week ...

    Pint of Abbot Ale

I stopped in here because it was the highest-rated pub between the Royal Observatory and the DLR station. Hungry for a decent meal, I ordered the fish and chips, with an Abbot Ale to drink. I should have known by the lack of other customers (even on a Wednesday at lunchtime) that something was up with this place. The food took quite a while to show up for the amount of time I waited and when it arrived, the fish tasted like it was previously frozen. The chips were good, which was a plus. Being hungry, I finished what was on my plate, but this was definitely the worst fish and chips I had during my week in England. Going back to the question in some old reviews that I didn't see until after my visit: is this a gay pub? It certainly didn't appear remotely gay to me (a straight guy), but then again, it was empty when I was there. It appears to be a standard Greene King establishment that's trying too hard to get the tourist business. And while I was indeed a tourist, I go to places like this to try and get some of the local flare, not mediocre food.

    My Christmas lunch. Just terrible.

The worst food I've ever had at a restaurant. My starter was frozen in the middle, the vegetables in my main were uncooked and the turkey dry beyond belief. My Yorkshire pudding was a soggy pancake. I'd review the dessert but we were told after the mains that there wouldn't be any, despite us paying ahead. This was probably a blessing though, given the state of the food we had been served. The manager was incredibly rude about the whole affair. He should get out of hospitality. After much arguing he eventually gave us 40% back but it should have been free. Next time your chef quits call you mum, mate. Maybe while she's busy in the kitchen fixing up another mess of yours she can teach you some manners. The wait staff were lovely. Praying for you.

Been here many times now in a Sunday. Great place to chill and chat. Brilliant atmosphere and don't be put off by the (gay bar) label.

While you can hang out in the crowd and grab a pint easily without that, if you want to dine in the quieter dining area with views of the water you may want to do so as well. Especially if you want the elbow room to enjoy such great food. The Mayflower is named after the famous ship carrying the early American settlers, and the church tied to this voyage is steps away where apparently an unmarked grave hosts the resting spot of the captain of that ship. It's candlelit and kind of romantic on the top floor with great views. For food, my wife had the chicken pie and I had the special of the day, lamb stew with housemade potato salad. It was warm, flavorful and delicious, sentiments my wife shared on the pot pie. We split an order of mac and cheese, and it was also delicious. Such great comfort food. I had a small scotch pour and an ale, my wife a glass of wine. I had a small port to pair with the sticky toffee pudding at the end which was terrific. My wife swears by Gordon Ramsey's recipe of the same but this one was hard to beat IMO.

We ordered onion rings to start, the breading on them was amazing! It was light and crispy as opposed to being heavy and greasy like a lot of onion rings. I also loved the curry ketchup that came with them. I'm not generally a curry fan, but it definitely worked with this dish. My husband got fish and chips. The fish was perfectly fried and the tarter sauce was obviously house made because it tasted very fresh and lemony. The chips were fine, but unremarkable in my opinion. For my meal, I ordered pumpkin walnut gnocchi. It was delicious! Just enough pumpkin without being overpowering. There was quite a bit of kale (I think it was kale, the menu didn't say) that came with the dish. It was very good, but probably could have been dialed back a little. The service was friendly and prompt. Definitely a great way to start our London vacation!

The establishment has a nice mixture of cozy and airy, which was perfect for a lazy(ish) Sunday. I hate to use this word, but I'll use it anyway (because I can't think of a better descriptor): the service here is "super" friendly, and very knowledgeable, particularly regarding the ales on tap. The barkeep gave us a few sample pours without waiting for us to ask, which we greatly appreciated. Because of that, we were more than happy with the pints we ordered. Moving on to the food: the roasts were delicious, in particular the pork loin, which was moist and flavorful. I enjoyed my roast beef as well. The Yorkshire pudding was wonderful and I might have been just as happy eating that alone for my meal, to be honest. The pub is in walking distance of the touristy areas of Greenwich, so it's easy enough to put some good food in your belly and continue on to your sightseeing, afterward.
