Locals told us this is the place to go for fish and chips in the area. The cozy, quaint restaurant on the second floor transports you to Tudor England. We had two kinds of fish, chips, and a pie. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious, so much so that I went back for takeaway a few days later. Happened to get the cod (a large double layered piece for just 4.5 pounds!) straight out of the fryer, and it was wonderfully flaky, covered in a perfectly light, crispy outer layer, seasoned with just the right amount of salt. I consumed the entire generous portion immediately. The pie and gravy weren't quite at the same level and we had trouble getting the waitress's attention for water refills, although otherwise the service was great. I didn't like how the mushy peas I got for takeaway were in a styrofoam cup; wouldn't mind paying more for a healthier container (compostable paper cup, ideally). In summary, I definitely recommend going for the fish and chips. read more
