Trendy without having to try too hard, friendly and upbeat staff, the management team got it just right when they set this place up (free drinks always welcome if you read this Dave or Andy!) Its been a few years since its last refurb but still looks fresh and inviting. The beer garden is brilliant (and packed) when the sun shines and has just the right balance of open space and enclosure from the high street. You do tend to find (as with most bars in the town centre) that the age group is predominantly 18-22, however I am 34 (yes and proud of it!!) and I do not feel out of place and like an oldie in the way that I do for example in Yates's wine bar. Dress code - understated cool, think jeans and a fave top, and accesorize up , rather than full on club gear. Labels abound - but not obligatory. Music varies but mainly your typical dance tunes, coupled with drum and base and some mainstream. Reasonable sized space on the dance floor for throwin a few shapes if that's your bag - the staff tend to encourage this and join in with gusto. Always a party atmosphere to be had, very little genuine posing, and a no hassle ambience. A little known secret is their food.. pop in for your lunch on a weekday and you will find that its good value, excellent quality and the portions are on the whole very generous. I had the linguine the other day and it was enough for three!!. Also DO come here on a sunday for your good old roast - iin my opinion its unbeatable in Tamworth for value, portion size and a good laid back atmosphere. You do have to sometimes vy for space with a few pensioners - who somehow seem to have got wind of the place - but it just adds to the good old British Sunday traditional atmosphere.

Full of folks who, for the West Midlands, are surely on the cutting edge of some fashion trend somewhere (think Emo gone wrong, Goths trying to forget their age, and biker chicks without bikes), Bond's is a unique drinking experience no matter where you're from. The beer is nice, lots of selections on tap, including Peeterman Artois, which I love, and San Miguel. The staff are pretty strange, mixing in well with the crowd, and shooting everyone surly, resentful looks as they disappear yet again into the backroom to apply more eyeliner, surely. There was one very pleasant chap who served us who was dressed, mercifully, in a t-shirt and shorts, with normal-coloured, slightly tousled hair, and a ready smile, unlike his frowning colleagues. The crowd is WEIRD, and yes, weird enough to be capitalised. I've never seen so many obese women in one place in my life. I felt like I was at a Weight Watcher's convention. No disrespect meant to the ladies, but it did mean that things got a little...crowded. There were a ton of very, very unwell elderly folks dressed I can only presume in fancy dress, and looking very unhappy. Then there was a cadre of normal, drunk, happy people, one of whom offered my husband and I a menage a trois. Did I say normal? Scratch that. Adventurous is what I meant. This crowd was jovial enough and friendly enough, but in general, the atmosphere was glowering and surreal. I'd definitely love to go again, just for the kitsch "oh my god, I am in hell" surrealism of the place. It was like something out of a David Lynch film. And no, that's not a compliment.

It's one of the ony places you can go in Tamworth wearing whatever the hell you like. If you're after pretentiousness then this is not the place to go, but if you're after a chilled out atmosphere this is the place to head to. If you're a student, this place serves pound a pint on a Thursday. Most of the other drinks are pretty cheap too and they serve pub food and sunday roasts in the day. There's also a pool table and table football and your standard quiz machine. They usually have indie music playing in the background, but it's never very loud and it's a good place to go to chat with friends. Can get very busy on a Saturday night, but other than that you won't struggle to get a seat. Regular nights include, karaoke on a Monday, live music on a Tuesday and Quiz night on a Wednesday.

The Plough & Harrow is a very old pub situated on an old Roman and London Road. A few years ago it was partially ruined in a flood, but the rebuild has gone a long way to making it one of the best pubs in Tamworth. It has a very large garden, lots of tables, a canopy and outside braziers for nice but chilly spring evenings. The inside has low ceilings, exposed beams and magnolia walls. It's a nice, comfy old English pub feel, but without the tatty standard maroon carpet. There aren't many tables inside, so standing is pretty much a must. The Plough & Harrow gets really busy on weekend nights, and is a haven to the young and trendy Tamworth set (you didn't know they existed, did you?) before they go on to a club. The music is pretty decent, through speakers, and so loud on weekends that talking inside isn't very plausible. The P&H also have a very nice restaurant attached, which I haven't been to, but have heard very positive reviews about -- it's mainly Italianish food with a modern twist. The pub grub here is very good, with some different things (Cajun Chicken Sandwich, YUM), and with excellent chips. I can't rave enough about these chips, which are nearly potato wedges, nicely cooked with delicious seasoning. The main bartender/manager is a really friendly guy, and all the staff are pretty chatty and nice. They often have fun activities, both for adults in the evening and families at the weekends, like an American 4th of July party (yay!), and festivals. They provide accomodation, which some of my friends from the US took advantage of when they came over for my wedding. The rooms are all refurbished and nicely laid out, with comfy beds and decent WCs. Nothing astonishing, exccept when you consider the SUPER CHEAP price. The rooms are all a bit off from the pub, so the noise level also isn't too bad.

We're glad we bothered to go a little bit off the motorway, as it was a lovely place to stop. The food was excellent- a wide variety of pub favourites and more unusual stuff at reasonable prices. The atmosphere was friendly and fairly warm, it was all beautifully clean and quite cosy inside, and it was easily worth spending the 10 minutes driving that it took to get away from Tamworth motorway services. They run a grand pub, full of fun with great local music acts every Friday and most Saturdays. My husband originally strolled into this pub thinking we'd have a laugh at the local cheesy entertainment. However, the songstress, who used to perform at Disney World and with their cruise ships, knocked our socks off singing a bunch of jazz and classics, along with covering the sugar out of Amy Winehouse and The Noisettes. Well impressed like, we was. This pub used to be well known as a drug haven (and not just cannabis), and was known for having the police in nearly every weekend for fights and the like. They had topless bar maids and it was a real dive. In 2005, the current landlords came in and really cleaned the place up. They redecorated, got a bunch of very large local boys in to keep the fighters away, and added a new food menu. Slowly but surely, the place turned around to become a real community pub. It's great for families, and often have carnivals in the summer and hold community events. On the weekends, it's great for adults, as the local bands and singers they get in are absolutely fabulous (especially Partners in Crime, a favourite). The beer is cheap, and they have all the cocktail spirits a girl could want. The best part is the crowd, though. The regulars vary in age from 20-50, and it's definitely not just an old man's pub. It's a favourite of local 20-somethings to frequent before they go out to a club in Brum, and for the less adventurous of us, they often stay open til 2am, at which point we teeter home on 4" heels that seemed like such a good idea at the beginning of the evening. Everyone in the pub is friendly, always good for a laugh, and happy to chat. No fights, no drama, just good clean fun and great music, karaoke and sport during the week. The landlady makes an excellent Sunday Roast, and the wine menu has recently been revamped to add some excellent choices rarely seen in Tamworth!

Full of the towns most notorious and unwashed, and yes well known for its drug related problems. This could actually be a nice little pub if it was taken in hand - but alas not somewhere I would venture into unless under duress. They have a cheesy disco and a karaoke at the weekend and some people I know DO go in for amusement value alone. The outdoor area could be lovely in the summer - but instead is just downright seedy. As its partially hidden from view of the street allsorts goes on in here. and its not pretty!!!

As for the drug going's on it seems to be quite bold and out in the open which can't be good for anyones trade and should be addressed . But on a whole the bar staff were very friendly and so were the people in tavern, unpretentious locals having a drink.
