Nothing but good things to say about this place. It was recommended by a local friend as the best pies around, so we had to stop for lunch on a drive from Brisbane to Gold Coast. The ordering process is simple and quick, and your pies are brought to the counter in a matter of minutes. The pies are indeed the best I've had, though I haven't had many, these were the best. Hearty and full of flavor. I had the Steak, bacon and cheese pie, and the bacon cheese sausage roll. Both were delicious, and I was stuffed afterwards. Highly recommended, and I will make it a point to stop in here the next time I'm in Brisbane.

THIS PLACE IS A MUST TRY! I was craving meat pie ever since I came back to Australia and so my cousin decided to take me to Yatala Pie. I was in pie heaven! There were quite a lot of people there. The line was pretty long, but it went by fairly quickly. There were so many different types of pie! I ended up with steak, bacon and cheese with extra potato. The pie plus a bottle of water ended up being around $8AUD. The pie was so delicious! The pastry of the pie was soft, crispy and flaky. The inside was flavourful and meaty. The extra side of potato was a great addition to the pie! The pie was pretty big; it definitely filled me up! We also tried the caramel tart/pie (not exactly sure what the name of it is) that they had because my cousin was raving about it. Now I know why she was raving about it so much. It was YUMMY! The caramel tasted so real and it was so thick! The caramel to pastry ratio was on point. I wish I lived closer to this pie shop so that I could have it as often as I want!

I was driving back from Tallebudgera the other night in wet conditions on the highway when my 4 month old started screaming and as luck would have it, the nearest exit was the Yatala Pie exit...oh shame! While I sorted out bub, hubby was able to duck in and grab us some pies. I was amazed by how quickly he was in and out of there - the service must have been amazing. That night we had the steak, bacon and cheese family pie. It went down like a treat. The night after we had the apple pie, which was equally as good, especially when paired with ice-cream.

I have such fond memories of stopping in for a pie on my way home from a day at the beach, unfortunately these days I won't be bothering to make a stop. The Yatala Pie of today is merely a shadow of its former glorious self. My pie looked anemic. It was a pale off white colour and completely soggy. No crispiness whatsoever. There was a weird outer layer on the crust which has some colour but immediately flaked off leaving just sogginess. The inside wasn't much better. I ordered the chunky steak pie. I had exactly one chunk of steak floating in a grey coloured lumpy gravy. My partners pie wasn't much better. My mushy peas were dry and waaaaay too salty, as was my mash. I am so sad. These pies used to be awesome. The dining area was dirty and needed attention desperately. The staff were friendly, probably the only saving grace about this place. If I had to just rate the food I would give these guys a solid 0/10.

what a great find! a popular pie shop which we found from the highway sign and decided to turn off on our way from brisbane to the gold coast. definitely worth a shop. there are so many different types of pies available and the two we tried were quite yummy. line moves fast and people are always shuffling around so seating shouldn't be too difficult. - lamb curry: nice flavor - beef and mushroom: my husband preferred this one they're not too big but quite filling read more
It's a tourist trap. Yes it's "famous" but in the same way early film stars (Charlie Chaplin era) got left behind when talking movies and colour happened. It's a distraction on the journey between GC and Bris. Definitely had better days. See it once / have a pie once. Food is OK - but overrated. Coffee is average. read more
One of the BEST pie shops I've ever visited. I had a bacon and steak pie which tasted amazing. The pies here are about 30% larger than regular pies so they are priced a little higher. Although the line and drive thru lines look long they move quickly. I suggest waking it for the full experience. I had a sausage roll which tasted great. The Apple Turnover was to die for. If you're driving down the M1 and looking for somewhere to eat or snack stop here! You will not be disappointed. read more

Great place to stop for lunch. Exactly halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Yatala is perfect for a quick rest and bite. This was my first time trying authentic Australian pies, and I went with the steak pie, adding potato and gravy. They also have chicken, lamb, veggie, and curry options, as well as desserts. Would return if I were in the area. read more

Breaking News! Yatala Pies now has EFTPOS, $10 min. No trip to the Goldie is complete without stopping in at Yatala to pick up some pies on the way home. Grab them hot with gravy, mash and mushy peas to enjoy in store, or cold to take home. The Steak and Mushroom is our favourite but the full range is great with lots of specials to keep it interesting and the dessert selection is far too tempting. read more

My friends and I were heading back to the city after a fantastic weekend in the Goldcoast. My friend told me that her family's favorite pie shop is in Yatala so we were super excited about visiting. For many of us, it was either our first Yatala Meat Pie or even meat pie in Australia. There was a line but it moved pretty quickly and the staff were super nice. I really liked who took my order because she was patient with me and friendly. I ordered the steak, bacon, and cheese and could NOT have been happier. I even ordered two more to take home. :) We also ordered the vegetable pie which was said to be fantastic. Some of the boys wanted more so decided to grab a mixed berry pie. Then, we thought we'd top off our meal be sharing a caramel tarte. YUMMY! Be sure to bring cash when you come here because it's cash ONLY. They do have an ATM machine conveniently placed in the store. Also, if you have a smartphone, you can get a special off their website. I won't spoil the fun so go and check it out yourself. Will definitely go back in the future. read more

Excellent pies, always a great treat, great service with about 10 people behind the counter weekdays it's amazing the service being as quick as it is with the spacing for covid and the amount of people that go to receive these amazing parcels of food. Terrible customer service at Yatala Pies. Tonight I went to Yatala Pies to buy dinner for my family. For the second time in a row I was not given my entire order. Admittedly, I should have checked before I left the store but I had a sleeping child to carry and I trusted the employee to get my order correct; although he didn't write anything down, just nodded and smiled. When I arrived home, half an hour away, I noticed I was missing a family apple pie. I called Yatala Pies and spoke to a male employee who passed me onto the manager Susie. Susie added up my order and stated that I hadn't been charged for the apple pie, therefore, I had nothing to worry about. I said that wasn't the case, it was inconvenient as I don't live close enough to go back and fix up their mistake. Susie was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She then hung up on me. I called back and spoke to Susie again. She was unapologetic stating that they have thousands of customers a day and can't always get it right. I told her that I thought it was more than a coincidence that twice in a row they had forget an item in my order. I asked Susie what her surname was, to which she replied "none of your business!" Again Susie hung up on me, leaving the issue unresolved. After this phone call, one of my family members realised that there were no peas on his order of a plain pie with peas. Very disappointing Yatala Pies, very disappointing! read more
Finally had a chance to get here and try out a steak and kidney pie. The line up was pretty big, even late in the afternoon. When I got the pie I wasn't hugely impressed, but it was enjoyable. The pastry was fine, and all the flavour was there, but I wanted chunks. Chunks of steak and half kidneys scattered throughout. Don't get me wrong, this wasn't an all gravy pie, it's just that everything was..ground. You won't be disappointed in sure, but I know I was expecting a little more. 4 stars. read more

Fantastic meat pies. For a visiting American, it was a delicious treat. Hopefully, I can find something similar when I get back home.

This place was an institution when I was growing up. You could not go home from the coast without stopping in here. We stopped in on the weekend to take my "pie loving" sister in law from South Australia there because she really wanted a Yatala Pie. We were very dissapointed with our pies. All three (different flavours) were only lukewarm, I was the only one that had a chunk of meat in the pie (all the rest had gristle, mince and gravy) and I got about half way through mine and could not eat any more of it. Hopefully it was just a once-off and they had a bad day but I wont be making the usual stop there for a pie on the way home any time soon. If you do choose to go there, please be aware that they do NOT take EFTPOS. read more
I am not much of a pie person although I would occasionally get chicken pot pie. The problem with pie for me is the crust. I don't like it all cakey and dry, which is pretty common. Yatala Pie shop solves the problem for me. Their crust is amazingly soft in the inside and crusty on the outside. How do they do that?? I tried their Chicken and Mushroom Morney from their Gourmet menu and it was delicious. The chicken is juicy and there is plenty of sauce on the inside. While their pie is a pretty good size for a meal, I recommend getting their gravy and mashed potato too. It just makes a whole mouthful of deliciousness. I also order their Lamb Curry pie to go. You can get frozen pies to go for weekdays dinner. They warm up really nice in the oven. The Lamb Curry pie has a herby flavor and aroma to it that reminds me of traditional home cook food. It also comes with a good amount of broccoli, zucchini and potatoes. That's your balanced meal for the day! If you are traveling between Brisbane and Gold Coast, I highly recommend stopping to try their pie. It is not too far off the freeway and you will not regret it! read more

Yatala pies is one Brisbane's must haves! You simply must stop by and get yourself a pie from here at least once in your lifetime. Personally my parents introduced me to this place as a young lad and i am keeping that tradition alive and have introduced my kids to it also. Pick a pie, any pie, they are all delicious with a huge selection of something for everyone. Be it sweet or savory, carnivore or vegetarian, beef or chicken, the list goes on... Have your pie with gravy, mash and mushy peas - It is the Australian way! These pies used to be the original more meat than gravy, hearty feed - however time and tide wait for no man and spare no tradition. Alas they are still great, but not as good as i remember... They now use more gravy to fill the void and the plastic knives and forks make eating these pies more of a physical challenge, which does add to the experience. read more

The Plain or cheese bacon pie is what I always have. Great tasting pies. I remove the chucky meat pieces from my pie just because I don't feel chewing for ever (which means it becomes more of a chore) I just want to eat now (Hanger mood) always fills me. A must stop when visiting Brisbane or going pass, last Sunday was busy in drive thur & inside definitely impressed how quickly everyone was served. Note be prepared for the drink prices $ expensive. read more
One of Brisbanes best pies, the Yatala Pie shop has loads of different varieties to please even the fussiest of pallets. My favorite is the steak and bacon which includes chunks of both in a yummy gravy mix. Do spend the extra money to get it with peas and potato to make a pie into a meal. The deserts are great, I love their hedgehog and my husband swears by their custard tarts. Drinks are on the pricey side here so be prepared or bring your own. read more

As a vegetarian I always struggle when I go to places like this (obviously because they specialise in pies!). But Yatala Pies have a couple options for vegos! They have; vegetable pie, spinach and feta triangle, broccoli, cauliflower and cheese triangle they also have a pastie but I don't know if that is vegetarian or has meat! I'll put a photo up of the menu! It is a busy place and always a line up but! They move you along really quickly so you don't wait all that long! Grabbing a table is a challenge though! Their chips and gravy are very yummy! Will be back! read more

The infamous Yatala Pie Shop. I have heard the praises of this legendary enigma echo through my memory, conjured up when there is an almighty stomach rumble, or most commonly, recurring the morning after one or two (or ten) beverages had been consumed the night before. Like most memories, this lodged itself in the back of my mind, to be remembered at another time. So on a road trip from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, this little foodie got a tad over-excited when the road sign (yes there is an actual sign for this pie shop) for Yatala Pie Shop emerged and brought those memories flooding back. There was no doubt about it; we were pulling over. Set within a humble old Queenslander, this place is always heaving with haggard and hungry travellers in need of a rest stop. There's also a huge line of cars queuing for the drive-thru (yes there is a drive-thru; this place gets pretty busy). Making a decision is increasingly difficult as you scan through the menu. Individual or family size? Sweet or savoury? Tossing up between a caramel pie and a steak, onion and tomato chutney pie was probably one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. Thankfully, the thought of the return drive eased my mind. The verdict? Sinking your teeth through the soft, chewy caramel and reaching the buttery pastry beneath; heavenly. And the return trip; definitely can't go wrong with flaky, crunchy pastry and a warm filling. Yatala Pie Shop is the pie shop to end all pie shops. read more

Yatala is known for two things; its pies and its drive in theatre. Apart from that, there isn't much to this suburb/town. Having said that, Yatala Pies is the sort of place I would drive 30-45 minutes to get to. I would recommend Yatala Pies to anyone, even those who say they do not like pies. What makes the pies at Yatala pies so good is not only their fillings but their pastry; that rich flaky pastry. Sometimes when I order pies, I don't bother with eating all the pastry but at Yatala pies, I will eat ALL OF IT! The actual place itself does not look very fancy, just plain tables and chairs, simple cutlery but seriously, who cares about the decor when the pies are so delicious. You can even drive through if you are in a hurry -on your way to see a film at the drive in perhaps. If you have not tried the pies at Yatala pies yet, I highly recommend that you do. read more

I'm here to provide a small word of caution about Yatala Pie Shop. Yes it's iconic, yes I wanted to stop there for most of my life - but when I did I was a vego, and I've got to say the vegetarian pies really don't come close to stalwarts such as the Byron Gourmet Pie Company or Humble Pie. The vegie pie was OK, just a bit bland and uninspired. The sweet pies were tasty too, but considering I was on my way to Mullumbimby I made a mental note to stop in to Santos for a truly satisfying vegetarian pie upon arrival. read more

Great pies....totally worth the trip! I got the Chicken & Mushroom Mornay with mashed and it was so tasty. My only complaint is the tomato sauce tasted a bit off. Im glad I didn't put it directly on my pie. It can spoil if they don't fully clean the containers often enough. Or maybe it was just cheap sauce. But overall, a good experience - I would go back for sure! read more

Be aware before you go that they do not offer EFTPOS and even though they have an ATM you will be charged a fee for using it as its a generic machine. Very often lately the machine has been out of order and without EFTPOS it is just plain inconvenient. The next nearest ATM is quite a drive away. Yatala Pies had been around for a very long time (its current location is not the original) and offers a large range of pies, family pies and cakes and tarts donuts and pastries. The pies are a little expensive but they are usually very nice and large in size, on the odd occasion Ive had dry tasteless ones but not very often. The service is normally very good and they get through the large line ups quite quickly. It is a shame that cleaning up isnt done much and so there is often big piles of rubbish everywhere and overflowing bins. Even if you do clean up after yourself the bins are so full there is nowhere to put it. I wouldnt drive there just for a pie but if we are passing through or on our way back from the Gold Coast we sometimes stop in there. I do recommend the curry pie very highly! read more

Whenever I travel to the Gold Coast, I simply can't pass the Yatala exit without picking up a pie. The Yatala Pie Shop has done the unthinkable to me... It's converted me from a beef pie eater, to a chicken pie eater (shock horror, I know). The Chicken and mushroom pie is fantastic. If you dine in, you can even get it with a side of mashed potato and gravy. If you have friends visiting you in Brisbane from interstate, you must take them to the Yatala Pie shop, as it has truly becoming an icon of the M1. read more

I'm not really a pie person but I will go the distance for a yatala pie any day. There are so many varieties to choose from. Highly recommend the tradies pie, egg, tomato, cheese, bacon, steak, and it's a very filling pie, I struggled to eat it all but I got through it completely stuffed but so worth it. Their caramel tarts are just like the good ole fashioned ones form when I was a kid and apple pies oh my god yummmm. They are open till 8.30pm every night I believe so head on down and great news they now have efptos. Also you can ask for the pies to be cold so you can freeze them and heat up later as well. read more

Overrated, sorry. They're very big, very expensive, very yellow and sometimes very gristly. I can't tell you how much I want them to be better. How about making them a bit smaller and getting back to better quality? The bacon in our last one was awful. Wah! I like to stand by the old icons. Make it better. read more

Yatala Pie Shop is a Brisbane icon for its award winning pies. It's the biggest pie shop you will ever see and on a sunny weekend the queue often stretches around the shop as travellers from Brisbane and the Gold Coast stop in for a pie. From its humble beginnings 130 years ago as a tiny pie shop on the Pacific Highway, Yatala Pies is now in a great old Queenslander just off the new motorway and even has a drive through for those in a hurry. I can't go past one of their cheese and bacon beef pies with a crispy top and melt in your mouth pastry. As well as small pies, the pie shop also does large family sized pies to take home and a large number of sweet things. While their apple pies and other sweets are just as good as their regular pies, trust me when I say you won't be able to fit them in after a massive beef pie so best to save them for the trip home! read more

The Pies were pretty good, the service was great and the old Queenslander facade is awesome. However it was pretty dirty with napkins and plates all through the gardens . I feel that their were enough staff on duty to attend to it as it wasn't very busy when we were served. If this place could clean up a bit more I would certainly give it 4 stars. Also I'd drop the $10 minimum on eftpos we're in 2015 now. read more
