We tried the auction platform listing 92 items. A couple of very high-end antique pieces and MCM furniture pieces. For 1800s Empire Period Sevres amphorae, a pair of urns, we got $111 BEFORE Max's 30% cut and for MCM Eames-style loungers we got just under $50 for the pair. We would not use this as a selling platform again and would caution those thinking to sell on MaxSold that it is best for clearing out a home or a garage sale type of offering of lower-end items or items that have little to no value to the seller.

After my mother passed, we were left with a large house packed to the ceilings with old, new, and…read moreevery kind of treasure in between.  After a year of attempting to sort through the home ourselves we decided to consult local estate sale companies.  After unsuccessful consultations with multiple companies due to the size and complexity of our sale, we felt defeated.  Feeling hopeless we scheduled our last company that we had found online not expecting anything but a "sorry we can't help you." The company seemed small and new.  We didn't think we stood a chance that they'd be interested.  We were wrong. The Root Cellar Estate Sale Company has been a blessing in our lives.  Heather and Kirk are nothing short of amazing miracle workers.  They handled over 2,000 square feet of "stuff" and transformed it into a giant welcoming space with boutique and general store vibes.  The atmosphere of the sales seemed cozy and welcoming. The presentation on social media was right on par with today's influencer standards.  The organization and timeliness of Heather, Kirk, and their entire crew were impressive.  Communication could not have been better.  Most importantly, they treated us with kindness and respect and were careful to approach this sensitive situation with gentleness and grace.   I would highly recommend this company.  I am confident they can conquer even the larger, oddest jobs and do it with style.  In one of the toughest parts of our life, they helped to make one part just a little bit easier and we are grateful.

The Root Cellar's response clearly agrees with my original post of their lack of communication…read more Instead their response is we're a small veteran owned business. They are publicly admitting that they did not communicate with me. "We never did business with this woman." You're absolutely right, little Root Cellar, I was inhibited from giving you my business because Kirk failed for over a month to return my calls and texts. If you can't handle letting your potential customers know that you're not up to the job, you might need to say that to your potential customer so they move on to better companies. As a business owner, your business model has failed because you blow people off. I was honest with Kirk on the phone over my sibling that wants to throw everything out instead of holding an estate sale and his response was, this isn't my first rodeo. Oh okay, he's dealt with situations like this before I figured. Clearly the Root Cellar hasn't and I highly recommend that no one uses this business.

The service is incredible -- they always go above and beyond and truly care about helping you find exactly what you need. Before Elliot's, we used to travel to the city for most of our staging inventory. Now, we can find so much right here locally, which has made such a difference for us. Their selection is constantly changing, their pricing is fair, and they are always willing to help in any way they can. What we love most is how much they give back to the community. They are always supporting local businesses, events, and people, and that means a lot to us. It makes us proud to support and partner with them. Elliot's isn't just a great store -- they are great people. We are so lucky to have them in our community.

Located just off Peach Street about 1 1/2 miles from I-90 I found Mel & Tee's easy enough. The front half of the store is mainly a hobby shop, some cool stuff but not what I was looking for. Luckily there is a door to the back of the store which is stuffed with a wide variety of items, collectibles, furniture, home goods and enough to keep you looking for a little while. For me the only item that interested me was a vintage wood stick puppet from Java/Indonesia. The puppet stood out as a very unique and high-quality item, although it did have a bit of damage to one of the hands. The price was about right, but a bit more then I wanted to spend. Luckily I started talking to the very nice lady at the register and she said that they were willing to deal on the item. I made a bid at the lower end of what I thought was fair and she accepted. I ended up getting a great one-of-a-kind item at great price. If you are looking to check out a local thrift store in Erie, Pa. I would suggest giving Mel & Tee's a try, not the biggest place but the fun is finding something you never expected; also really nice when you can negotiate a bit to get what you want.
