My kids have not been to XMA since Fall of 2022 and I have over $2000 worth of charges (December 2023) for my kids this 2024 year! Its hard to get ahold of anyone. I spoke to Jeff in January about the charges-he said he would call back and followup but never did. I put in a dispute with my credit card company but it did not get resolved because XMA disputed it. I should have never paid for my kids memberships annually...this rollover membership is a ripoff since the company doesn't followup with families. It must be nice just to earn money for kids that don't actually go. Unfortunately, its the families who pay. I heard they were really great at one point, but a bunch of families have mentioned how its gone down hill. Plus I know I'm not the only one who has issues with charges. read more

Poor business communication. Watch out for their contract-they will roll over your membership and keep charging you. I know multiple families, including my own, who have had a hard time getting them to cancel their membership and stop charging them. read more

I have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Xtreme Martial Arts for over a year now and I absolutely LOVE it! I love the instructors, the people that train here, and the gym itself. Coaches Jay, Jeff, and Rafael have made me feel comfortable and "at home" since I first walked in the door. During class, they help each and every student with the techniques and make sure everyone gets it. If you have trouble with a move or any questions, they always have a solution/answer. They take the time to make sure everyone gets the technique, and you need to see it again 100 times, they'll do it 101 times for good measure. When it comes to the kids' classes, they put in the same amount of effort they do for the adults' classes. They are so patient and good with the kids that it blows my mind whenever I have a chance to watch them. Not only are they teaching the kids martial arts, they are teaching them manners, respect, kindness, and how to treat one another. They teach them valuable lessons they can use both in class and outside of class, which I haven't seen before at other schools! Not to mention, in addition to learning how to be kind and respectful, these kids are INCREDIBLE at Jiu-Jitsu for their age. Some of them are invited to the adults' classes occasionally and they give us a run for our money! Whether you or your child is interested in Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, MMA, Self Defense, or all of the above, XMA is a great place to be a student. It's easily one of the best martial arts academies in Connecticut. I highly recommend it! read more

I have been waiting months without a return call. I was charged over 11 times for a monthly fee of $120 after I canceled my membership. I had to dispute it every month with my credit card company until I put my card on hold so they couldn't charge me. When I reactivated my card they continued to charge my card and provided my credit card with a fraudulent invoice to my credit card company 2.5 years after I canceled my membership. I will now have to press legal charges to be refunded for these charges. Many people have left because of poor administrative and billing practices. read more

I've been coming here for years and absolutely love XMA. As a martial artist for many years, I'm more than familiar with the "macho" atmosphere of other studios. The vibe here at XMA is friendly, welcoming, and no-judgement whatsoever. In my time taking classes here, I've seen many students come in with no experience and they are encouraged at their level, and I've seen a number of them continue to move up in the ranks. I attend the boot camp several times a week and I love the variety and camaraderie. XMA is not only a terrific place to work out, but you feel like you're working out with friends and family. Jay (the owner and chief instructor) is great at what he does. He's learned from the best and he's always getting involved in something new and trying new things to grow the studio. This is a great place to train BJJ. I came to Xtreme after having a bad experience at another martial arts studio. I do have some physical limitations and was very nervous coming in, but Jay the owner assured me that everyone is welcome there. Jeff, the other instructor there is great too. They are awesome about demonstrating the moves and making sure that you are using correct form, but at the same time giving everyone a chance to try out the moves. I feel like I've learned a lot in a short time. Everyone is nice and there are no egos there. This gym also has a boot camp for women and boxing classes. Both are challenging, fun, and help you learn technique in the case of boxing. The price is very reasonable here. I'd highly encourage anyone (but especially women- as it has intimidating in other places I went to be a female in this sport) to try out a class here to learn quality BJJ instruction. read more

Jay and Jeff are great instructors. Xtreme Martial Arts has an excellent kids program, not only regular weekly training classes but the camp program during school holidays and summer. My son has not only learned the art of BJJ but it has also built his confidence and self esteem. He looks forward to each lesson and works his way to each higher level. Xtreme martial arts was a great program for my four year old for awhile. However, after we had been going for awhile, the instructors starting giving the young kids (my son is 4) xtra black rings of tape around their white belts to show they were improving. Very cute. However, sometimes my son didn't get the black ring of tape. I understand that it's not to give to every child every time. However, when he didn't get his black tape ring for the third time in a row, we (my aunt who drove him that day) asked why. The response (in front of my son) was they give it to children who are good and listen to their parents and behave. Besides being a terrible response about "being good etc..." in front of my son, we were never asked these questions. How would they know any child's behavior outside of class or say that a child isn't "good" who goes to their program. The response had nothing to do with martial arts or his achievement or behavior in class. Also, when canceling our membership (you pay a monthly fee), we had issues. I cancelled our membership in the middle of March. April 1st, we were charged for April. I called the next Monday (the charge went through on a weekend) to ask for them to reverse the charge and a return call. No one called. I called the following week, same message - reverse the charge and give me a call back. If I don't hear from anyone, I will need to dispute the charge with my credit card. It's now two weeks, still no credit or return phone call. I have just gotten off the phone with AMEX. read more
