Hard to believe that no one else has reviewed so far, but I guess that it is a bit removed from the typical tourist destinations.
I think I found a reference to this restaurant in Rick Steve's Portugal manual. Our timing out of Lisbon was perfect to stop here for lunch.
We were the first patrons for lunch, but an hour later there were only a few others. My guess is that this caters to the adjacent high-end hotel. Christian Laboutin (he of the iconic red-soled woman's shoe) owns the hotel and restaurant, and it has a unique, fascinating vibe. Oh, and the luncheon menu was exquisite also. I'm far-enough removed that I don't recall what we ate, but I know it was fish with a lovely Alentejo red wine (I like my red wine, and I was determined to splurge throughout my month-long tour of little Portugal).
After an elongated, relaxing meal, we headed to the rest rooms before getting back in the car. Wow. Both gender's rest rooms were lovely, to the point that you might think they were part of a private home.
And then, we walked into the currently closed bar in the next room, almost entirely made out of silver and delivered straight from Seville, Spain. A bit garish for my taste, but definitely memorable.
Worth the (pricey) stop for lunch or dinner if you're driving between Lisbon and Lagos. read more
