I was so sure I'd already reviewed St Vincent BC! Oh well…read more.. I've been frequenting this bowling club for long and weary; both my dad and borther are now members and my uncle and grandpa have also been members in the past also. The halls have hosted various May family occasions; wakes, birthdays and my dad has threatened in the past that if ever I get married, this is where we're having the reception if he foots the bill! I might be biased since St Vincent BC has been an integral part of my life, but it is genuinely a brilliant club, filled with brilliant people. You can hire the hall for up to 100 people for any occasion, and the lovely catering ladies will also offer their services to prepare either a buffet, canapes or a sit-down meal for a pretty good price. You can also (provided you let the club know) bring in caterers or food from nearby establishments to cater your event; the club, in the past, has had Old Salty's, Crabshakk and Mother India's catering for them in the past. As is befitting any bowling club, the drinks prices are crazy cheap and there is generally a pretty good selection on hand. If you're organising an event and you need a specific drink, John on the bar can usually help you out in finding it and stocking it for you. The members and the board in the club are all true gentlemen (Again, I may be biased since I've known many of them since I was a wean!) - no problem is too big or small and they are more than willing to help you with anything. They are always more than happy to welcome new members of any age, so if you fancy coming down to try your hand at lawn bowls, just give them a call and someone can show you the rules and lend you some bowls!

Bowlpex - The sheer concentration on this man! Competitive much??

Scott and I visited Bowlplex twice over the course of two days... I think we've become…read moreultra-competitive as we recognise each other's strengths and - for fun - try to out-do each other! This place is pretty huge - 20+ lanes and a small selection of arcade games around about to kill time. There is a small restaurant area at the back of the unit, but we didn't have time to try out the food. We did purchase some drinks and a bottle of water - came in at under a tenner so not hugely expensive which is a bonus. First of all: I love that there's no rule at this alley that states players must wear the 'silly shoes' provided to bowl. I want to bowl in my own comfortable and hygienic clothing, not someone else's manky shoes! There's a great selection of balls here too... I love balls. I love the size 14 purple one more than the size 14 red, but that's personal taste more than anything else... Anything lighter just doesn't hit the pins right or give the arms a decent workout at the same time! Worth a visit if you've got some time to kill! :)

Bowling and Beer should never be this disappointing. A few friends and I decided to enjoy a couple…read moreof Wednesday night games. We couldn't book online for a game so expected a bit of a wait however this did turn out to be 45 mins. This seemed to me like a ploy for them to get you to put some money in their arcade machines as there appeared to be plenty of lanes free. We decided to have a drink and a game of pool my friend and I tried to order a Alcoholic Ginger Beer each which was clearly in the fridge however the bar tender just looked perplexed despite us pointing at it. Anyway we got there in the end. Another friend was waiting at the counter for food but no one was serving and they had to come to the bar to be told wait at the other counter only to eventually be served by the same person. Pool was off to a flying start when the eight ball did not reveal itself we played on regardless as it was almost impossible to get the attention of staff. However this led to frustration when the white ball joined the rest in the chase. We got it reset to only have the same thing happen again and the table got the out of service sign attached. Onto the bowling well it was o.k. in the main apart from the team of lads that were so drunk they couldn't even stay in their own lane actually falling onto ours at one point. One of our party ordered lemonades which had to be swiftly returned because they were actually soda water. During the time at the bar which was a long wait I saw customers returning wine as it was in their words crap. I also saw a customer get served too many drinks and overcharged which led to more confusion. Bowling completed for some reason we stayed to have a go of the arcade machines however it turned out lots of them were also surprise broken which now leads me to thinking the lanes i saw earlier possibly were too. I think next time we will be going to another venue. We did have a laugh but mostly in frustration.
