You see, while ripping lip, it sometimes becomes necessary to stop for a nip of a fine libation or putting some form of sustenance in your belly. No libations around here so how about stopping into my favorite place for a can of Luck's beans and an ice cold Coke? You won't find better people. Location... Location...Location is the number one rule in business and this one doesn't have it. They do however have an owner that cares enough to serve the community in a location that is, at least, important to him. Out of the way, off the beaten path, a roadside place in an area without a busy road in site. Do a favor and give business to a place that doesn't have to do business. Without these small local businesses, a 20 mile drive will be your only option for the simple necessities of life.

The store shows its age, there are things placed here and there, so remember to take a good look, you might actually find what you've been looking for. It's always nice when you accidentally run across something you haven't seen in 40+ years. That's how I felt about Shelton's Store. It reminded me of my local convenience store in my neighborhood when I was 5 years old. If I had a dime, it magically turned into a candy bar once inside the store. :)

It has charm and character you won't find in a Shell or Speedway. There is usually a group of regulars hanging out at the front chatting. The store is surprisingly large but dark and pretty dusty. The variety of items on the shelves is actually pretty funny and some of them look like they have been there for 40+ years. The couple that runs the place keeps a notebook with all transactions hand written in it. You can get homemade deli sandwiches on the super soft white bread that sticks to the roof of your mouth when you take a bite. Nothing fancy but it's nice to get lunch for 2 for less than $10 anywhere these days. They serve breakfast as well but I haven't made it in to try that yet. They also sell fuel but you can't pay at the pump. I would find that annoying some places but it just makes sense here. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of places left like Shelton's.

The location of this market is perfect, as well, as there are tons of cute local businesses surrounding it. I would definitely recommend The Market to anyone in the Knoxville area on a Saturday.

That employee once falsley accused me of yelling at the employee who uses his bird finger to ring you up.
